Guild Wars 2

Hiya guys. First time poster. I’ve had GW2 for about 3 weeks now and have been loving Elementalist so far. Reached level 80 a few days ago.

As someone who’s a bit new to the game and MMOs in general, I’m not really sure where to go to gather info :C. A few of my friends play but they only know so much.

Mainly just wondering about gear here. Should I be getting into crafting? (I’ve been scraping almost everything so I have a bit of materials saved up) A friend of mine bought some pretty good rare berserker’s gear to hold me off currently.

As for grinding (I’m sure I’ll be doing this instead) What should I be grinding? What should I aim for? Just not sure what I need, or where I should start?

One of the best ways to get gear is to do dungeons (for the tokens) or the PvP reward track for a dungeon. You unlock the PvP reward track by completing a dungeon on story mode. I prefer the pvp side to it because you get 3 exotic weapons, your choice of any armor and enough tokens for another armor piece. Some of my prefered armor pieces (berserker stats) come from the Dungeons Arah and Crucible of eternity.

Crafting is worth getting into and there are plenty of guides that can take you from 0-500 in 30 minutes. You have to have a 500 skill crafting (Tailor) if you want to make ascended armor.

To check you pvp reward track, click the crossed swords icon at the top left of your screen. And select the reward track tab, there you can monitor your progress on unlocking gear and goodies.

One thing to consider gear wise, on ele’s its good to have a mix of Cele, and zerker. Normally a ration of 2:1 (celestial : zerker). Some people like to mix in a few other stat combinations but this will get you right for PvE and WvW!

Alrighty! I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. Just randomly found a group not too long ago and with SOME trouble we did do it. Took a lot of work.

I’ll keep at it and hopefully will get everything down.

The gear also heavily depends on your play style and intention(WvW or PvE). In PvE everyone is pretty much running berserker armor, since you can dodge, blind or reflect almost all attacks, while still having insane DPS as an ele. For WvW, like cobblersons said, you have to mix up cele and zerker, but knights is also very good. Honestly, if you want to play in WvW, there are so many different play styles for ele and Youtube is a great place to find builds. Tip: Try to get ascended celestial trinkets first, since armor and weapon crafting is timegated and will take you 40days!! to get it. You can buy ascended celestial rings and amulet for laurels and some WvW badges (no time limit on this) in WvW, so they are fairly cheap. Ascended celestial accessories can be bought with laurels and 50 globs of ectoplasm, which isn’t very cheap. You could do guild missions to get guild commendations and buy those accessories. For backpiece, craft Mawdrey.

U dont have to do dungeons tho. U could find various means to make gold so that u could buy berserker exotic off TP, or do WvW as that gives u currency to buy it from their vendors. The fastest way for a newcomer could be dungeons, like u could do the quick paths in 5 6 dungeons daily and ull get a set fast (or slower if u want the same skin set and focus on one specific dungeon, as i belive token rewards lower themselves after x runs per day). Aside from this i also believe orr merchants sell exotic sets for karma, tho it costs a little.

Yeah, I’ve been begging my friends to do a few dungeons with me. Hoping if I keep up with that I’ll get better stuff. Wish I had the confidence to do them with randoms LOL. Pretty new to it all.

WvW I also attempted for the first time today. Seemed pretty nuts. Fun, but just has no idea what I was doing lol. I’m guessing all of this will slowly fall into place. Just wanting to get the hang of everything >.<

U can also use the lfg tool, its a nice way to see ‘whats out there’. I also urge u to get dragontimer, just google it, there u can see all the world events happening around the clock and plan ahead. U can make some decent money from it, also amke a mystic salvage kit and use ut on yellow items to get globs, either sell or keep them. If ur yellow item is worth more than 40s u could sell it than salvage. I also cant stress this enough, on draontimer theres a boss called tequatl. It spawns like every 3rd hour and takes like 10 min. U get nice rewards there and should do this daily. U can also get ascended weapon chests that u can convert to the stat of ur liking in the mystic forge, it can also drop a rare ascended skin box as well.
