Why are various other things nerfed only in pvp, yet Ride The Lightning got nerfed in pve too? First of all I do not support the nerf the way it was done at all in anyway its pathetic. There are many good ideas that Anet has pushed aside such as letting conditions such as crippled apply to RTL’s movement speed etc.

Staff and scepters need to be changed to make this a real class again if you decide to keep this dumb nerf.

Might as well just remove elementalist from the game. Thanks for making it easier to pry myself away from your game. I only wanted to play elementalist and nothing else and noone should have to play another class because the meta changes.

All in all nice job on making it a pve nerf, seems logical…. GG guys!

I am completely baffled by why they insist thieves have to be the most powerful class. They do out of their way to make them more powerful while other classes get a 10 second reducing on a signet that they never will use.

Lol Calling thief the most powerful class is so 2012.
For the past 3 month Elem has been dominating and I really don’t understand how you could’ve missed that.

They nerfed thieves ages ago when people complain about them; they’re now doing the same to Elementalist. Really I feel like some of the elem on this forum is still stuck in a time-capsule or something.

I can’t see RTL staying like this. It’s really ridiculous.

After the nerf in range from 1550 to 1200 it’s not even particularly great when you do use it. Certainly nothing deserving of a 40s cooldown.

I always thought it had a 1200 range normally, never knew it was 1550. If I had known that I would’ve suggested it was lowered.

I’ve only PVP/WvW a bit weekly, but I can see the problem with RTL is that we can escape a fight whenever we want without any risk involved and almost no way to counter it. But, the way they fixed it just shows laziness IMO, since all they need to do was tweak a few numbers.

What I’d rather see is maybe a 1s cast-time and keep the 20s CD with some flashy casting effect, so that players can at least try to counter it. And, maybe add a 50% chance to reduce RTL cast-time to 0s just to add a bit of randomness to Air attunment and keeping the way it used to work 1/2 the time. But, anything’s probably better than a simple and ridiculous 2x CD fix. ;(

I believe they can’t split skills and they can only split traits. Or they do not want to split skills because it would confuse players when they go in different game modes.

The nerf didn’t change the fact that Eles can still escape whenever they wanted to. 20s, 40s, 60s, 180s it doesn’t really matter because if you save RTL only for escape then when you really need to run away from a fight you can just pop it. RTL had its counter the only thing RTL had that made it strong is that it isn’t affected by chill or cripple unlike say like Warrior Rush (GS 5). Even then blink abilities like teleport or shadowstep are much much stronger than RTL due to the fact that you can’t really counter it. I can move further away under imobilize. The RTL nerf mostly affected out of combat mobility and the ways that Eles use RTL to close gaps without hitting the target directly or start a combo/fight

Thieves had the greatest mobility pre patch and they have the greatest mobility post patch regardless of RTL nerf or not.

I heard most people ranked in leaderboards ran ele? Sure it wasn’t efficient? A solid ele in spvp was terrifying.

31/5/13 patch :

Necromancer : all skills will give agony.(50+ fractal agony)

Warrior : though/vitality/power will be increased by 50%.(becouse they have got the best attack/thoug/vit of the game and couldn’t win against nothing)
Hundred Blades now will teleport your foes in front of you,will stone them and damage will increased by 50%.

Mesmer : clones won’t be more 3 only but 10.
Mind-wrack dmg will be increased by 45,67%.
Roll for clone(trait) won’t generate 1 clone anymore but “only” 3(no cooldown in this trait).
Every clone shattered will give you other 2 clones.
Shattered skills will have no cooldown.

Ranger : AI of the pets improved.

Thief : backstab now will have a chance(89,45%)of oneshoot on the foes.
Steal will also steal from foes the weapons/clothes and money.

Engineer : don’t know.

Guardian :
Duration of boons/vitality/tough/regen will increased by 43%.
All boons will be given for skills use(15 secs duration)(trait)
Other boons will be developed becouse without them he could do nothing.

Elementalist :
Players will no longer be able to use the keyboard.
Rtl modified : range brought from 1200 to 55. Cooldown increased to 1 hour 42 mins and 23secs.if it hits the target will be only 10hours 56mins 5secs.
Mist form will bluescreen your pc.
Signet of restoration’ passive will be removed and replaced to confusion passive(example : when ele do a skill will take 3 stacks of confusion condition).

Arenanet : balanced is now ok!

The RTL nerf affected any situation where you’d use RTL, since the range was reduced from 1550 to 1200 as well as the cooldown increase.

Problem is, nobody cares about spvp. PvP (GvG especially) was BIG in GW1, so you could at least understand why everything was balanced around it (still wasn’t the right thing to do and just the easy/cheap way out, but w/e). Back in the days, GW1 was THE pvp mmo
GW2? Lol. Did you recently check Twitch or something? GW2 has like what, 25 viewers max? Hell, that guy who is streaming Trading Post stuff usually has the biggest number of viewers. GW2 is not an esport, and nobody plays spvp. PvE has a bazillion times the amount of players, and I’m willing to bet even WvW has a multitude of it.
It makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE to balance anything around spvp; if anything, those spvp players should have to deal with a game balanced around PvE and WvW.

Man this nerf makes 0 sense to me, its only purpose seems to be to messes up mobility out of combat. I mean if it is the escape out of combat portion of it that needed a nerf, then why not just give this skill a 1-2 sec wind up and an animation tell if the player is in combat? Lazy balancing…

I think people don’t understand that the viablity or strength of a profession comes largely from the game mode rather than specific skills or stats. Leaderboards show Eles in s/tPvP. It doesn’t show what build or weapon set they use d/d or s/d. Without a doubt s/d was OP in s/tPvP and d/d really strong in that game mode due to bunkering a point being a strong strat to use. On top of that the small arenas make Eles strong. However, go to WvW and you see a completely different picture. A similar example would be Warrior where they are really strong in dungeons/PvE due a game mode where having extremely high dps along with damage buffs to allies being really strong strat to use. Take that same Warrior to WvW or s/tPvP and it paints a completely different picture. I think a lot of players can’t grasp this or they do not play enough of every game mode to see a more complete picture of a particular profession.

After a few tests in dungeons and WvW in duels, the RtL nerf is now far more unpredictable. Not because of the “normal” new behavior, but because of how RtL normally bugs out. One of the more easier ways to test this is to use RtL on the berserker boss in the new dungeon, you will self stun yourself AND you’ll get 40s.

If nothing else, and I seriously mean, if NOTHING else, at the very least, make it so if you have a target on use then you get the 20s CD.

Yeah RTL has been buggy for a while. It is safe to assume that for most players RTL is 40s and that there are only a few times where you will get the 20s CD proc.

I got a lvl75 Ele and none of these changes to RTL and Mist Form have made a drastic change to my game play and RTL and Mist Form are still part of my build and still get used. The Ele was OP in PvP and WvW and was OK in PvE before the patch. Now the Ele is still kind of OP in PvP and WvW and is still OK in PvE. Next month classes will get tweaked again, and again the following month and so on, so forth. This is a MMO, class balancing will be changing for years to come and new builds will emerge. Eventually Anet might get it right for all classes. ATM, Ele is still a very viable class.

Pre patch lots of options. Post patch fewer options. Those things are still a part of Eles because the alternatives are just horrible. Focus meh compared to Dagger OH. Mist form is good compared to all the other useless utilties like conjures and glyphs.

Eles were never OP in WvW. If Eles were OP then Thieves were OP and Mesmers were OP. The reality is that all 3 of these professions were strong. The only OP Ele build was in s/tPvP and it involves s/d weapon set. However, it is important to know that the game mode made that particular build really powerful. In a game mode where bunker isn’t as viable that same build doesn’t do as well. WvW s/d versus s/tPvP s/d Ele.

Nobody minds class balance. It is how it is done. This is an overnerf because RTL never really procs 20s due to it being buggy. In one patch RTL CD increased by 100%. RTL got a bug fix. All of these changes on a buggy skill when they could have done a smaller change to see the effect like fix RTL range bug and increase CD of RTL to 25 or 30s. On top of that no changes to make other things viable or better on an Ele.

Also people should be disgusted of how pvp is ruining the MAIN game…….its like if they started to balance on SAB….

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
