I’m curious what runes people are using for s/f fresh air ele when roaming in WvW. I’m looking for suggestions before I buy traveler’s (since you lose all mobility other than lightning flash)

As much as I love traveler runes, I don’t think they suit this spec. You sacrifice a lot of damage. I just use the signet for speed and when I see a fight coming I swap it out…

I mostly duel with this spec though so I don’t need the movement speed, I get the swiftness from the rune and air attunement.

Each to his own I guess.

I run hoelbrak.
IMO scholar is a poor choice because in any fight that lasts longer than 1 skill rotation you’re going to not get the 6th rune bonus.

I also duel with a S/F spec, I like the condi duration reduction and the might uptime. I agree with the poster above about the travelers runes, they’re not worth for a fresh air S/F.

I think I will go with pack for now. Last question, are people running it full zerker since you don’t have the sustain of a d/d ele to take advantage of the 2400-2600 armor?

Most ppl go full kitten zerker mode, and so do I. :P

You can use some soldier/valk/cavalier pieces (w/e) if you think you need some more survivability.

Have you though about running arcane lightning over aeromancer’s alacrity? With arcane blast you will have the effect up most of the time duration is 15 sec where the skill only has a 20 sec cd. Its a free +10% crit dmg.

Have you though about running arcane lightning over aeromancer’s alacrity? With arcane blast you will have the effect up most of the time duration is 15 sec where the skill only has a 20 sec cd. Its a free +10% crit dmg.

I’ve thought about it – but – and this is purely my preference –
I prefer to have aeromancers alacrity because it gives me more opportunities to use Gale and Swirling Winds. I’ve been roaming with S/F for a long time now and I feel like having more swirling winds up has saved my team several times. In a 1v1 situation, Arcane Lightning may be a better choice, but I normally run with a 3 man party and the swirling winds help keep them alive as well.

I do my best to air burst and rotate out of air as fast as i can, unless i’m channeling my AA on someone. The traited cooldowns for lightning strike and blinding flash are very low. If you watch the camp fight in the video i posted earlier, we should have lost that engagement, the yak escorts, and a full compliment of lvl 82 guards, in addition to the 5 or 6 enemy players, would have been a great deal more punishing if i wasn’t nullifying the scouts (and their kittening blinds) with Swirling Winds.

Being almost completely glass – It’s important to be able to buy yourself time to regen and heal, and unless you’re being trained down by some melee, swirling winds does a great job.
