So I do not see them really in game and after having searched the gw2 ele forums literally the word scepter is typed once in the entire forums (a few s/f) and it is referred to as having low damage. Also dulfy’s analysis of the scepter ele skills left them seemed pathetic as all attacks were listed as subpar damage to staff or dagger and requiring too much cc to be used where you have only the knockback of the offhand. (and apparently he just hated water scepter damage and utility).

So my question is simply is this a thing? I have heard only negative feedback on scepter when compared to staff and d/d. The only reason I ask is I have meterologicus for my necro and recently transition. Is it better to simply make and use an ascended staff if the skill set is horrible? and judging by lack of red post on here I am guessing ele is balanced where anet wishes it to be so cannot expect scepter boost. Asking for any skilled elementalist input on weapon sets.

It depends on what mode you’re going to focus on. There’s a lot of talk about D/D stomping all other sets because the context lie in sPvP. The same as Staff to Zerg WvWvW.
If you’re looking for a Scepter build, you’d have to specify which part of the game to use it in, really. Scepter (paired with Focus) is commonly run in dungeons and the likes, whereas you can run literally anything in Map Completion to do well.

Pro’s of using scepter is that:
• Dat burst doe
• Dat might stacking doe
• Vigor on Fire 3
• Toughness on Earth 2
• Good Synergy with Focus for helping your team
• Fresh Air builds

Cons:
• Water and Earth (aside from trident, toughness, and earth 3) are completely useless.
• Fire 2 has a large prep time and is not going to hit mid-fight unless you can immobilize.
• Autoattacks are about as good as bleach is at cleaning your insides.

I see. I tend to stick with wvw in groups between 2-9. I always switch to staff for big zerg as I feel anything else is simply a waste. I also tend to do fractals alot but fractals with ele feels like thief. I just auto die so I tend to run them on guardian necro or mes.

The earth toughness feels odd for me due to its short duration I suppose I will get better at that in time. and the water trident healing is awful so I typically opt for more dmg or auto attack nothing for the healing.

Try s/f fresh air if you roam in small groups, but solo roam carefully.

You are squishy, a bit low on condi cleanse/aoe/dis-enagage options. Don’t overextend, stay in the background and annoy key opponents.

I’ve also tried roaming something like Diva’s condi build (first page on the forum) with a scepter. It seems to work, but you basically stay in earth all the time and it didn’t really do it for me.

After i played staff for a year i switched to scepter focus. I stack might now and pretty much was amazed how much dmg i can do with those and protect myself and group on the same time. I love it.

I toggle scepter/staff (and builds) — typically depending on number of allies/opponents. I would stick with the scepter if I’m in a 2 man team opposing other small teams. The staff is more interesting to me if I’m running with 2 full parties. …ish

I’m a small scale roamer at heart, I prioritize good gear for that setting, and an exotic staff is good enough for me.

scepter focus is really good in pvp and in my opinion in roaming wvw . Obviously i use it with freshair 06044 … you are squishy but it is fun and viable

Scepter Elementalist can be extremely effective if played right. I am currently running a Scepter/Dagger lightning rod build that can one shot pretty much every proffesion. Im running 0/6/2/2/4.
Sigils: Sigil of Air, Sigil of Accuracy
Runes: Scholar
Gear: Berserker
Traits:
Air: Bolt To The Heart, Air Training, Lightning Rod
Earth: Stone Splinters
Water: Vital Striking
Arcane: Renewing Stamina, Elemental Attunement.

Scepter hate is all about the puny auto attacks. The air auto looks good because the numbers on the screen are wrong, look at the combat log to see the real numbers. I tried timing it and scepter autos took twice as long to kill the same kind of mob as dagger auto.

Scepter also has poor healing and CC so its not good at group support in those ways. Only one defensive skill, the toughness skill which is annoying because you have to keep hitting the button.

So whats it good for? BURST AOE AND MIGHT STACKING. If you want to use it in dungeons focus on stacking might for the group and then switching to a conjure. Everyone will say switch to LH but why not the frost bow for healing? FB healing is underrated. If you want to use it in PVP you better focus your traits, utilities and tactics on burst damage because scepter is great at that. After all your cooldowns are blown you will either have won or now you need to run away.

BTW anyone wanting to use the scepter needs to think about using a Fresh Air build. You need those extra lightning strikes from attunement switches to make up for your puny auto attacks. And guess what, those lightning strikes help with burst damage too.

Man Scepter Ele’s are broken as hell. I’ve run into this one Ele in WVW who roams quite a few times, and I can’t kill her on any of my toons lol. Can’t kill her with my Condi thief cause she’s immune to them for some reason, and then when I use DPS of any build that can massive burst her, she just runs away, and does all the crazy heals that Ele’s have. I think really it’s just whether or not you can develop a proper play style for it. Because not once have I beaten this scepter ele.
