Hello everyone,

I’m trying to create a Scepter/Focus Build for my toon. Unfortunately there aren’t many that attempt this and isn’t as popular as staff or d/d. I’m trying to work out a build that can work excellent in WvW so please if you could throw down good tips or ideas for this build, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

What role do you normally play in WvW?

I see that you’re a commander, but do you lead a small guild havoc group, large guild zerg, or militia zerg?

As far as working excellent, I wouldn’t go that far, but I can suggest a few s/f builds that can work decently enough, if I knew what role you generally play. It’s a weaponset that is great at holding points/chokes, and falls off in effectiveness whenever mobility, healing or ranged aoe is required.

I don’t want to discourage anyone from using s/f, but I’m not going to lie and say it’s the best WvW weaponset either.

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

I use a variation on the standard Water/Arcana build, usually something like this.

You can go the standard 0/10/0/30/30 if you like, I just really like Glyphs (Inscription means I get permaswiftness off just casting my heal skill rather than some tedious rotation) and to have a bit more damage. My armor and trinkets are a hearty mix of stats with a slight emphasis on Vitality and Precision/Crit damage, since S/D Eles make good use of all stats. I’m looking forward to Ascended armor so I can get Celestial stuff.

EDIT: ACK, I misread and thought you said S/D. Mia culpa!

Why S/F instead of staff, if you don’t mind my asking?

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

As a commander I’ve led groups from duos to 40+ man zergs. Depending on what class i’m playing my role varies.

On my Guardian (my main) I’m obviously the hammer head of the group. So I charge in first with everyone behind me taking the head on blow and surviving.

As for my elementalist, I usually sit back on staff and play AoEs. Staff AoEs are my favorite thing about elementalists. D/D isn’t my play style for WvW. and S/F is in the middle.

My problem is that I have no clue on how S/F can play out. I need as much help as possible finding a Build and tips on how to play with that weapon set.

I want to deal some damage, but survive.. I’d be roaming small man and in zergs. I guess my main role with this weapon set might be support? Hard to say, the damage isn’t that great with this set of weapons but I’m willing to try something new.

Plus there are some neat weapon looks I could pair with this weapon set

To try something a bit new. I like some of the focus skills too! I go for a good build but I also want to look great while i’m pulling off that awesomeness of a toon. Weapon skins matter to me!

I’ve been trying out a few s/f set ups , Ive found build thats one of my fav weapon set so far for wvw. I run knights gear with scholar runes, cavaliers and berzerker trinkets 10/30/0/20/10. ER, Mistform, lighting flash, arcane blast( 1500 ranged one). Keep crit chance 50% plus with foods and no furry, armor ends up around 2.5k and max crit damage. Between the cantrips and focus skills you have long range defense and positioning, 4 blast finishers, burst potential of 6k-12k damage( depending on armor) between 3 skills, 2 instant. Dragons tooth can hit a clothy for 8k and is great for zoning and causing a dodge, its also more available than meteor shower, toss a well positioned phoenix where they dodge also. … Mistform or obsidan flesh into a zerg and cast swirling winds to shut down any range attacks, use winds for safe zones or to save or help a retreating or downed buddy, also good for stomps depending on the class. I think its more fun going up against a thief or mesmer with this build as oppose to a d/d setup. Its a bit more satisfying to burst down a thief at the right second instead of rolling around for sustain and hoping he’s in my aoe fields. I find Necros and Guardians to be more difficult than most classes, or a no range ranger :P.
To really learn s/f I’d recommend going full glass cannon first, stay alive with your spells and see what kind of serious damage you can do, then scale it back from there for your liking. But be prepared to die a lot. To the OP i’m also on BG if you ever want team up in wvw and see it in action.
