I’m switching to scepter focus ele in WvW, and I’m really bad because I don’t know any rotations. How do I play Scepter/Focus ele?
I’m using Marauder gear, Strength Runes, and Earth/Air/Arcane.
I’ve seen this setup work, so I’d like to make use of it.

Standard damage rotation is to swap to air (proccing Electric Discharge) and use Lightning Strike. Afterwards, swap to another attunement, get a crit, and then swap back to air and repeat. If you’re running Arcane Blast, that’s a guaranteed crit. Basically you want to attune to air whenever possible, not only for the damage but for the superspeed uptime which is essential for kiting.

Standard burst rotation is swap to air > Lightning Strike > swap to fire > Phoenix > Lightning Flash > swap to air > Lightning Strike. You can use Gale to knock down the opponent before doing the burst. You could also use Gale and then Dragon’s Tooth, which will probably force them to stunbreak and dodge. Burst them afterward. Remember that Gale is unblockable!

Since you’re running Strength runes, you can stack might by casting Flamewall (fire field) and using blast finishers on it. Dragon’s Tooth, Phoenix, Magnetic Wave, and Comet are all blast finishers. If you’re running Evasive Arcana, you can also dodge roll in earth attunement for one. Use Fire Shield for, well, a fire shield.

Don’t focus too much on the rotations though. Use each skill as necessary. Remember to kite, kite, kite! Your damage rotation is instant and doesn’t require you to face your target, so you can kite while still dealing pressure. Throw in a Blinding Flash (also instant cast) or a Dust Devil to blind your opponent. Use Swirling Winds and Magnetic Wave for projectile reflection. Obsidian Flesh for when you’re under pressure. Gale and Comet for CC. Magnetic Wave, Phoenix, and Evasive Arcana for condi clear.

Tien hit it. The last paragraph is key. Reactive playstyle and kite. I don´t play fresh air, but it´s quite silimar. I am less circling with my build i go in and out too but i am earth, arcane, tempest S/F. Offensive fresh air has a much higher skillcap then most other classes/builds because it can die very fast. I like it even if i am considdered the underdog …. I can bite quite deadly :-)

The only real combo is lighing flash- phoenix- swap air- air2- arcana blast (if you slot it).
Then It’s really important to know other classes for use you other skills on the right moment.

If you are running earth trait you can try to use earth signet, the immobilize from it is usually better than the knock down to land dragon thoot.

As other people said, your main defensive mechanics come from superspeed for kite people.
You can also bind a button for Watch behinde you to make easier kite+attack/use defensive skills

do i need tempest to be viable? since d/d is dead, i feel like ele only hope is s/f ( have yet to find a melee build that works without tempest )

Scepter generaly is considdered a weak weapon, but it´s the only flexible ranged one we have. Offhand dagger doesn´t bring enough after the RTL nerf. Most play D/F. It offers the best mix of damage and defence. Has the best auto attack lighning whip and shocking aura. Staff is hard to hit the main damage against moving players.
Warhorn is some kind of support weapon and not so bad, but i faild to use it well. It´s to slow.

Scepter generaly is considdered a weak weapon, but it´s the only flexible ranged one we have. Offhand dagger doesn´t bring enough after the RTL nerf. Most play D/F. It offers the best mix of damage and defence. Has the best auto attack lighning whip and shocking aura. Staff is hard to hit the main damage against moving players.
Warhorn is some kind of support weapon and not so bad, but i faild to use it well. It´s to slow.

with default builds, is running d/f still possible? i really like the playstyle of ele being melee.. but since d/d is dead, im wondering if theres any builds thats similar/close to being how aggressive d/d playstyle is

hmm i only tried a bit with D/D so i can´t say to much. Evrything i try to play can´t compete with my scepter. I am too used to it now :-). Somtimes i use staff if the situation calls for it.
For me scepter is best from playstyle. It gives me the flexibility to fight ranged and i can do some considerable short range burst, but never stay in melee long. I find it agressive but it´s somewhat tanky by nature. I go with sage+soldiers or leadership if using arcane version after the nerves.

Can use another rune if you don´t need the condi removal from shouts. I often pick scavenging. Nighmare will do it too or beserker maybe.

Drawbacks: Low mobility. You can get swiftness from OL but it´s not compftable.
CC chains might also wereck you if you are not in earth ready for OL. As soon as you are focused you need to swap earth or you usually die.
also it lacks regeneration. You can go for invigoration torrets which is strong.
Much off meta but fun to play for me.

I don’t think so. The non-HoT S/F fresh air ele relies on constant kite to kill the enemy and the only other option would be fresh air tempest with D/F, but you don’t have hot. Try burn condi build I guess, oh and if you are good enough, staff lighting rod build can do some pretty serious damage. It’s easily countered and not really good against druids in WvW.
