I really want to main Ele, but…I’m just not sure.

I have 7 level 80s. The only class I don’t have is Engineer.
I recently crafted the legendary focus and plan on using it for my chosen main.
Necro is very very fun and there are many builds that are useful.
Guardian is also fun, although a bit easymode to be honest. I rarely see myself using the focus in any of my builds.
Mesmer I like too, but…I also feel like it is a bit of easymode in pvp PLUS it’s so so so so so so so slow in terms of movement speed outside of combat.

Now Elementalist…I plan on remaking/releveling. (Burned out from lvl 80 content). Thinking about using dagger/focus or scepter/focus for the majority of the time. However, I was reading to avoid focus and just go D/D all day long. I stopped playing D/D long before any nerfs cause once again…I thought it was a bit easymode. (Although in dungeons, it was THE SINGLE MOST FUN BUILD i’ve ever played.)
The only time I remember using xx/focus was in Arah dungeons against Lupi, but…

As you can see I’m a bit scattered brained on who I should main. I don’t have the drive to use alts anymore cause the game just isn’t supportive of that…

Help! lol

Oh oh, also…what do you guys think would make using the focus better? Like a rework of the skills or a specific trait focusing on the focus…I’m just curious.

Oh oh, another thing…um…I forgot. No wait, my opinion…would be maybe, just maybe…and this could be passed down to all professions…have the skills work like thieves! Erm, you know…some of their sword skills change based on what they have in their offhand. Like Sword/P is different from Sword/D. Maybe the same could occur with S/F and S/D (for ele)? No? Maybe? I think it would make sense!

ONE MORE THING: All my opinions on the professions are taken from my experiences in PvE, Dungeons, and WvW. I’ve dabbled in Spvp a bit, but generally have fun with ANY profession in it…so yea. Just fyi ^_-

OK this is it, I swear! The major factor for me to main Ele is…it’s a bit harder to play then anything else (IMO). I feel like I made out of paper and I’m giving out papercuts most of the time (but papercuts hurt sometimes, ya know?) Also, I mained Ele in GW1. So I feel like…I can’t turn my back on Ele! Wow…sry for typing so much!

focus for ele’s is a bad weapon with 4/8 useful skills, most of which have stupidly long cooldowns . some ele’s like to use it for group utility (look at my swirling winds, woooh), but most just use it because theyre hipsters and they want to be unique and different.

many mesmers cope with out of combat slowness by combining their very, very short heal cooldowns with runes of the centaur.

i’d say play the ele, but you will be heartbroken if you give her the legendary focus before it gets some kind of major overhaul (if it ever will).

The only place where focus is really useful is high lvl FotM or WvW (pre Swirling Winds nerf). Dagger off-hand is better most of the time.

Because of that I wouldn’t give the legendary to your ele. You simply won’t use it.

Focus has some amazing skills in earth (a 4s invuln on 50s cooldown, and a 3s reflect + cure 3 conditions on a 25s cooldown), a good skill in earth vs. ranged (swirling winds on 30s cooldown, lasts 6s), and decent skills in water/the other air (a daze on 25s, a chill on 25s, a knockdown on 50s!). However, the movement on the focus is abysmal, the fire is both bad AND bugged, and it completely lacks any healing in water. I would wait to see if focus gets fixed and the fire ever gets improved to main ele and use that.

Also, xx/F is generally worse than xx/D b/c EVERY skill on the dagger offhand is either good or great, and brings some great CC, good mobility, good damage (in fire), and good defense/heal in water. xx/F is just too 100% defense, and only does a spottily good job.

no don’t waste any time on the Ele, Anet has made it clear the ele is not intended to be good at anything so don’t even bother.. lowest health pool, lowest damage, lightest armor. jack of all trades… master of none.

The author uses dagger/focus for his weapons. I can’t comment much on that but am planning to try it out.

Since the patch though, elementalists can do damage with the best of them, so they’re a very viable class. I shelved my warrior in favor of my ele because she is much more fun to play.

if you have a legendary focus you should main a mesmer…
Dunno guardian…

Not ele….

Focus may be buffed in the future but for now its a situational weapon for a situational profession.

Focus on ele is only for pug groups….but mostly ele is for pug groups :/

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Focus on Ele is great! Swirling Winds is very useful in PvE Dungeons and Fractals. I run with Guardian and Mesmer in the party a lot, but it’s nice to have that extra projectile block just in case. It’s super great in PUGs too.

It’s better on Mesmer and more useful on Mesmer though, so not knowing much else about your play habits, I’m inclined to say to give it to the Mesmer.

Remember if you don’t like your decision, you can always account-bound it by transmuting it only a White-quality item.
