I know everyone says it personal preference. But really it seems ele’s have a unique presence in gw2, i have been leveling from 60-75 with d/d as i did crafting for 1-60

it is really fun, but now im trying staff, it has some good dps, im wondering if its viable for pve dungeons besides being a healer?

I know it works GREAT in w3.

yes it does. I used to be a D/D healer bunker kinda thing and now completely swapped over to a balanced AoE spam staff build with conjure weapons for more aoe’s and some extra utility. Posted it on the forum already (not the initial post but the 2nd comment contains the updated build; the first one is if you want to be able to swap between staff and D/D healer builds without having to go to the vendor)

Staff also has many sweet skins compared to daggers, I’ve ended up collecting them I don’t care about the stats anymore. Have around 6 exotic unique skin staffs. Emberspire is my favorite. Also have Melandru’s Gaze and the one from CoF.
Dagger skins are just so boring

Staff is usually a better way to go for most dungeons, b/c it allows you to dish out more ranged aoe damage and not get focused as easily by tons of mobs. In dungeons, everything hits harder, so your D/D spec may not be able to out-heal getting smashed by everything on the frontline (you will be getting hit a lot if you are that close), and you’ll spend a significant amount of time running around just trying to survive. Staff gives you more time to manage your space, watch the boss’s animations, and react appropriately. Plus, you do bring more support and fields for your team, which they will love. Coordinating to blast in water fields can be a life-saver.

I want to love staff, and I’ve posted a thread with many suggestions about how to make it more of a weapon for dealing damage – but I’ve lost any hope of it seeing any kind of buff.

Staves are for support, and mediocre to outright bad damage. Until Anet get’s off their kitten and fixes this, my ele is staying on the shelf. Beyond disillusioned.

Staff is wonderful in PvE, Duns Run,WvW, not for Roamer, crap in 1v1 in PVP though but still good in group figh. I love Staff too but I think they only need to buff Staff in PvP aspect only. Staff in PvE pretty good at where they are now.

b/c it allows you to dish out more ranged aoe damage

The damage of EVERY ranged weapon in the game is always worse than the meele option. So the 2 advantages of staff are the support and not getting hit so much at max range. That’s it. It’s also painfully slow.

I like staff, the looks, the range, the AoE, but as it is with ranged weapons in this game, meele is better as long as it is not impossible to meele.

Also everything on it is extremely slow and if you ever have the pleasure to group with 4 zerker warrs, you are basically useless since everything dies before your first field tick.

Did I mention it is SLOW? It’s slow.

I like the staff in dungeons. Combo fields are great as well as crowd control. The scepter dagger also works well because it can be used in melee range as well as ranged Pretty much all the drawbacks from scepter in PvP are gone in Pve and the crits on Churning Earth in Pve are spectacular as well as the condition damage.
