So Feel the Burn is the only good shout?
Oh the stunbreak shout is also instant…. But well it´s a stunbreaker and has no aura. You would use it for superspeed.
I usualy have rebound and flash freeze on my toolbar too. I would realy like them as instant.
Shouts really aren’t that great if you’re not building around auras. FtB has some place, being the offensive one and having a short cooldown, but that’s about it. I generally prefer to have icebow instead, it offers better utility and comparable/superior damage against small/large targets, respectively. Though I admit the Scepter/Warhorn initial burst gets even more awesome with FtB in it.
I generally couple it with the trait that adds Might, but yeah I guess as an offense Tempest the other shouts feel kinda lame. Still, I wonder why FtB can be used while channeling whereas the others don’t.
EDIT: ah right forgot about EotS
I feel like I’m the only one using shouts hehe.
Anyway, I find it odd that Feel the Burn is the only shout you could use during a channel. I thought it’s due to channeling (i.e. Wash the Pain Away has that channel meter), but apparently other instantaneous shouts like Aftershock and Flash Freeze can’t be shouted while you’re channeling something.
They however have cast times. Pay more attention.
Still wish they remove cast times on those shouts.
Flash freeze does damage, cc, and gives 10% damage reduction as support, which is an aura, that procs auramancer traits. It is the best chain cc with other water, earth, and air that the ele has access to in pvp.
I used to use feel the burn (due to it’s no cast time), but it doesn’t offer any protection from anything, and a fire aura isn’t useful anywhere compared to the other shouts.
The majority of incoming condies are from ranged spells, and thus aftershock is great for that. It’s only 5s longer of a cd than the stunbreak, but it also procs aura traits.
My hopes are that eles get a better shout set of runes. Radiance runes aren’t worth taking for the aura aspect. We need more shouts, more often. There’s so much potential with tempest they could work with. Sand squall is pretty amazing, but warhorn just doesn’t cut it. You can’t just reflect forever without a babysitter. Retal is a much easier mechanic to gain in retrospect. Our reflects need to gain a type of damage modifier from somewhere to really shine.
i always siad please give us 20% CD reduction on tempestious aria. It will be a buff to offensive tempest but give up vigor and regen for it….
“Aftershock!” is my go-to skill for open world, I never ever take it out.

Agreed. “Aftershock!” is easily the most useful shout, in my opinion. Since much of our damage centers on the elementalist, enemies that spread out and fire projectiles tend to stay alive longer and deal more damage. This makes magnetic aura a very potent effect all by itself, even before factoring in the potential additional benefits of applying an aura.
It’s especially useful if you happen to prefer a weapon set that has no base reflects, like dagger/dagger.
You can always Overload Earth to get a magnetic aura and it’s not on a 45-seconds cooldown.
I really like aftershock
Instant cast, breaks defiance bars, reflects projectiles and also blast finisher.

It isn’t instant cast, 1/4 second cast time isn’t much but it is something.

That’s true. However, only if traited and the aura is applied after the 4 second cast. It is a reflect on a short cooldown, but it carries some major drawbacks that aftershock doesn’t share.
Now if you’re saying that aftershock could have a shorter cooldown, then I’m right there with you! I’d never say no to that!
Overloading has drawbacks, that’s true. I actually ran with “Aftershock!” for a while, but ended up replacing it, primarily because of its cooldown. It doesn’t really justify spending a utility slot for something you’re forced to use sparingly and therefore only occasionally.
A part of it is I like to run either Staff or X/Warhorn, both of which have access to Magnetic Aura.
All the aura shouts use to be good for support trouper rune ele but due to the epi nerf resicense become that much stronger.
All auras on ele need to be aoe powerful aura is way too important to the core class that it stifles every thing else ele can do. In a way shouts are what aura should be for ele.

Overloading Earth just for the purpose of Magnetic Aura seems silly, and “Aftershock!” is just a helper utility. If it’s taking that much longer for you to finish killing a crowd of mobs you’re probably doing something wrong.

Yeah, like running “Aftershock!” instead of Glyph of Storms, Signet of Fire and either “Feel the Burn!” or Conjure Frost Bow. Meta is there for a reason.
aftershop PvE ? Glyph of storms is one of the most powerful PvE utilities. Pick it…
Uh? “Aftershock!”/GoS/SoF is my setup, and replacing Aftershock with other things for the purpose of damage is out of my build for OPEN WORLD, because I don’t need any more damage (and nearly any ele shouldn’t need either). Overloads per se melts down crowds of mobs, and when I run into a champion I’ll keep on my regular rotation because differently from raids, open world champions never pose such difficulty to justify bringing more DPS instead of utility.
And frankly: using conjures in open world is as silly as can be.
The thing is, Icebow is better utility than “Aftershock!” in addition to better dps.

Depends on context, and for open world which doesn’t demand extra DPS it is not.
More dps is always preferable to less dps. It means killing stuff faster, which in turn means stuff poses smaller threat. There’s literally no reason to not run full glass in the open world. Even on HoT maps.

My 2nd set is maurader. It’s just a little bit extra room. Especially at the circle run before the dargon in DS.
I think Shock and Aftershock is my favorite Elementalist Shout. VERY powerful under the right circumstances. It’s great party defense against enemies like pistol Thieves, longbow Rangers, et cetera. I also sometimes use it offensively as a blast finisher or to prevent people from escaping my AoEs, like Air overload. I’ve also used it to prevent someone from getting on point for a little while longer in conjunction with Magnetic Grasp and Earth Overload.

Unless it kills you first. Then there is literally every reason to not run full glass.
I’m not saying that you can’t succeed in full glass or even that it’s a bad idea to run it. However, to say that there is literally no reason to run anything else is only true for you and your priorities. Other players may have their own reasons to do otherwise, including but not limited to being less skilled than you are and participating in activities which you would also fail at in full glass, but don’t bother with for your own reasons.
Telling everyone they should always use full glass and that there is literally no reason to ever do otherwise isn’t helpful. It’s probably part of the reason so many players call elementalist a “squishy” class when it has some of the strongest healing and why a lot of players struggle with solo open world HoT content.
Thanks for the tip, though. You are so pro, bro.

Yeah, I used to run Marauder armor. In solo scenarios the dps loss is negligible, but then I got tired of swapping gear all the time and went full zerk everywhere. And… the survivability loss is negligible as well.

If something is consistently killing you in the open world, you’re doing something wrong. It’s fine to use defensive gear and/or abilities while learning to play the class, but it doesn’t make either of them an actually good choice. It only makes them good a) while learning the class and b) in niche scenarios like if for some reason you want to solo group events like HoT hero point champs. But in general, I’m sorry, they are simply poor choices.
Also I’m nowhere near pro. Most I can qualify for is “decent”. And you don’t even need to be decent for the open world.

Then we’re in agreement. There are reasons to use builds other than full glass.
As I said, it may not be relevant to your priorities but there are players out there like myself who spend most of their time in solo open world play. Soloing group events/champions in HoT is exactly the sort of gameplay I find enjoyable and I see plenty of benefit to using non-meta builds to do so.
If I want to raid, then I use the meta build. That’s what it’s there for. But raiding takes up relatively little of my time spent in game.

Great! (Sincerely)
You’d still agree (I hope) that this is a niche scenario. There are certainly players like this, but they certainly aren’t the majority. It doesn’t make much sense to take niche applications into account when discussing the viability of skills in general. Most players simply never run into the situations which make these skills good.
And by the way, when I’m saying “there’s no reason to not run full glass” I mean in the typical usage for your average player. Of course, if you’re seeking solo challenges this changes. But the players who do this type of content usually know what they’re doing. So I’m disregarding them and generalizing for simplicity.

What I do is niche, yes. But I don’t think I’m the only player who could benefit from using a more defensive setup than the meta. A majority of players? Probably not. But certainly a significant number, if the number of players who express frustration with this class as being too squishy is any indication.
Regardless, I think we’re on the same page here. The statement “literally no reason” kind of threw me.
Lately I’ve been enjoying Flash Freeze, chill really is a nice indirect cc. Though I should really try Aftershock.
If we talk about pvp i would say all shouts are good besides Eye of storm (just ok as passive trait). Of course only one class has all their benefits…but it’s horribly effective when that class is on auras – condi necro.
