So what's thoughts on d/d 0/10/10/20/30?
I’ve been looking into this build myself and it does bring some interesting stats to the table.
I’ve made sort of a demo build for testing if I were to think this was a viable area (obviously i’ve based this build on dapheonix’s former) I honestly don’t expect it to be perfect but there are some nice stats involved.
Overall you’ll have about.
- 2800 attack
- 25% critical chance (basically 45% because of zephyrs)
- 2800 armor
- Around 450-500 healing power
- 60% boon duration (most bunker builds are used to this stat)
The interesting thing about this stat setup is it kinda puts itself in a nice spot. If you ask people for the most part will say having over 3000 armor is actually sort of waste as the scaling starts to drop. While at the same having above 3000 attack is actually considered (by some) to be a dps based build which is possible if you gain full bloodlust stacks and food buffs (not to mention might stacking) you could probably reach around 3000-3200 attack.
But this build isn’t perfect, its missing some critical parts.
For instance it has very low critical damage (only 15%) and fairly low vitality (only 16k) and with only some moderate healing power (compared to the more tankier ele builds).
So obviously using it with something like ether renewal (which has very low healing power scaling) might be necessity.
If you WvW zerging I imagine this could do some hefty damage especially if your fond of using a staff like myself (think of using like a zerker staff with sigil of battle) and for roaming I can see someone be quite a force on the field but it does require a lot more attention to your health than former bunker eles may be used to.
So running 0/20/0/20/30 and really getting curious about 0/10/10/20/30 now that the new earth trait truly is 10% dmg increase. Now we can use zephyrs for the aura and fury/swiftness while also picking up some toughness and a 10% dmg increase.
What are people’s thoughts? Viable or too mixed to be effective.
Oh amd mainly referring to wvw mix Zerg and roaming.
I won’t assume what the 20 in Water gives you or what you would be losing. If you go 15 in Earth and 15 in water you get Earthen Blast on Earth attunement for a 3 second cripple. Cripples stack in duration.
I think the best offensive setup is actually 0/15/10/15/30. This gives you the added 10% dps, keeps your lightning proc on swap, and maintains the water heal on swap.
I would pick either Bolt to the Heart for dps (getting swiftness by using glyph of elmental power, or using signet of air) or zephyr’s boon for some more swiftness/fury.
That being said, arcane abatement is so nice to have while roaming in wvw.

This is actually one of the more interesting trait setups I’ve heard of. I may just play around with it a bit. Thanks.
yea that does look interesting. I am only concerned of my vital and healing power but I may give that a go.
water 20 I bounce between abatement and the cantrips give vigor and regen because I still use the two cantrips (earth armor, mist form). Not sure if I can give those up because with earth armor I just seem to get locked down like every second and the mist is the only way for my squishy self to leave.
OK so tried the build and I do like it but maybe I am just off today but I feel I am deing sooner and I don’t really “feel” the extra power so not sure yet, probably need more time (maybe just better players out today).
so this is my current build and I feel like my healing power maybe just went down a touch too far.
any Ideas/opinions of where I could change up some stuff to be a little more survival but not full tank. I am even thinking maybe to switch dagger to zerker to kill quicker? maybe I am just dragging the fight too long so I slip up and die? (don’t get me wrong I get kills too so its not bad just want better)
first time linking I hope everything goes through
^seems ok to me besides the incredibly low hp. I use something similar occasionally except with soldier daggers. Maybe that might help a bit. Maybe also some food that will boost healing or toughness or hp might make a difference.
I’ve been running the build linked below for my first few weeks in WvW. I usually run around in a group of 5-15 people of varying class/skill (That’s a usual “zerg” on ET ), but I’d really like to be able to hold my own against the occasional solo/duo assailants when scouting by myself. (or is running away from everything just what I’m supposed to do? I’m still not sure.)
I’m still pretty new to WvW/PvP, so I die all the time, and rarely defeat anyone when I’m by myself, but am I on the right track with the build at least? I based it on the daphoenix build, but I have no idea how up to date that information was, and I ended up throwing some soldiers armor and zerker weapons in there as it was what I had available at the time. :P
I can usually run through a group of 15-20 people attacking a tower/keep without getting myself killed, and when I’m chasing after someone, I seem to do a fair amount of damage to them. Not usually enough to get them down before they heal, but I’m probably using the wrong moves anyway.
About 0/10/10/20/30, I’ve been thinking about switching my build up a little to this:
(Basically just switching from 0/10/0/30/30 to 0/10/10/20/30 with Stone Splinters and replacing zerker daggers with soldier daggers to recover the HP loss and get over 2.7k armor.)
Anyone see anything wrong with these set-ups? I’ve been very confused about what I’m supposed to do for WvW small/medium random group play with D/D. Every thread I check is either very old, or full of people posting all kinds of things and not quantifying what playstyle they have (Staff, S/D, PvE, WvW, solo roaming, glass, tank, etc).
I threw together a quick spreadsheet that indicates by losing the +2% damage from Bountiful Power, and -6.1% Crit -10% Crit Damage by switching daggers, but gaining +10% damage through Stone Splinters, I should overall get about +0.4% more Effective Power, and 11.1% Effective Health from an extra 228 Armor and 280 HP.
Darn, the forum won’t let me upload my spreadsheet. It basically just calculates the same “Effective Power” and “Effective HP” as you would get on gw2buildcraft.com, so I can use it with gw2skills.net. Anyone have any thoughts on how much I should look at those numbers?
Effective Power = Power*(1+CritChance*(0.5+CritDamage))*(1+Multiplier)
(CritChance, CritDamage, and Multiplier are “0.25” for “25%”, etc. Multiplier is for stuff like Stone Splinters and Sigil of Force.)
Effective HP = (HP*Armor)/1836

I’m still not convinced that 5% damage is worth losing powerful auras or condition removal on regeneration.

Personally, I am never comfortable with less than 15K HP. I would suggest changing your chest and leg pieces to soldiers or try going the full-celestial route would be interesting. This isn’t quite a glass cannon, so you do make good use of all your stats, and all the heals you have seem to help a ton.
Also, personally I run ether renewal (I know its risky) for the condi-clease and signet of air for my speed (+speed boost and blind is really strong right now too). Signet also works well with CE if someone is dumb enough to stick around and try to attack. Alternatively, I would take cleansing fire over armor of earth (if you aren’t gonna take ether renewal). While the armor is strong, it is not all that useful in regular fights and doesn’t mitigate as much damage as cleansing fire against most classes which get some decent condition pressure.
Edit: Actually after playing with it a little bit, for D/D I think that 15/0/10/15/30 works even better. The fire trait I took is burning precision (30% chance to cause burning on crits for additional burning pressure), and the flame-blast on fire attunement in another PbAOE that synergizes well with all of out other skills. You also pick up more power and condition duration, which helps with steady-pressure at the cost of some precision/crit, losing a little bit of burst.

yea see the hp is where Im at too. You think switch the armor or just go soldier dagger as one above said?
I know ether renewal works for a lot but I just cant sem to time it right and then yes cleansing fire is good too but maybe I just have terrible terrible luck but it seems I am locked down like always and with no HP and light armor and no cloak = dead. so the erth if I pop first and then go into a group they cant lock me down, that is why I use it more than anything else not so much the dmg reduction.
I am even thinking to ditch misft form in favor of cleansing fire as mist form is only 3 sec and it can be hit or miss a lot of times.
ah just don’t no where to go from here.
lol ok just checked tp and looks like soldiers is sentinals. So I can earn that in the future through AC dungeon but it cose way too much in tp so any good alts till I can get some AC daggers or chest and leg?
oh btw im dumb I don’t have knights acc I have soldiers and cleric here is real build
so still not above 15k but not as fragile
Yea if you mix a couple of soldier’s pieces in (chest and legs) it will really help. If cost is an issue, soldier’s is available in all except legs from the orr temples for just karma:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armageddon_armor
Also, your playstyle might be holding you back a little bit. Make sure that you are leaving water untouched except when needed. You have 3 good heals available to you in water: attunement swap, dodge roll, and water 5. Cone of cold is also pretty good (water 2).
This build isn’t nearly survivable as ele used to be (with mistform + ether renewal + short cd RtL) so you have to be more careful picking and choosing your fights. That said, ether renewal is awesome precisely for the reasons you said you have issues: it clears out immob, chill, crill, poison, etc actually improving mobility. Most people in WvW aren’t quick enough to interrupt. You do need to be mindful of line of sight when using it most times though (you want to move behind something as you heal)
hmm good point I didn’t know it would cure immob that makes me very very curious. I currently went back to 0/20/0/20/30 and I jus tseem to have more luck with doing 20% more at below 33% hp vs constant 10 (while giving up my own HP).
I am not thinking the 0/15/10/15/30 is not doable but I think I will need some gear first and then a retrial.
If you want soldier’s gear you can always go in wvw and get it for badges. If you don’t feel like doing that though you can always look for me in game and I could help you run AC a few times, I don’t mind.
lol well screw me I went and got soldiers coat and though leggings but didn’t read stats. Argh well I got the coat but apparently the karma vender sells a diff legging in orr. Just great 42k karma god for something I cant sell or salvage arrrrrr
ok got the soldier coat which brought me too 15662hp and I now live and use 0/15/10/15/30 and it rock. using ether renewel as well as signet of air. thinking I only need the soldier coat and that’s it. I am soon to have ascened celential ring and that should help too.
but yea for me 0/15/10/15/30 is looking very good and very fun

Hahaha, that is a bummer. Don’t worry, you will have more karma than you know what to do with soon (after getting your gear). You can always get 3 more temple pieces and throw those in the mystic toilet to get a different exotic, but I am not sure that is the best use of karma.
I am glad you are enjoying the spec. Ele can be fun, although I am STILL working on getting better
Something irrelevant but..is it only me that thinks fresh air can work wonders with d/d too?
Its the only weaponset which has an autoattack that can like .. kill a person alone and its on air.

Yes. D/D Fresh Air doesn’t really work because what makes it work for scepter is that it’s instant damage that can happen at the same time as other burst (phoenix, churning earth, etc). D/D air autoattack, while “good” (it’s our best autoattack, that doesn’t make it good compared to other classes autoattacks), is rather slow and you can’t burst someone down with it. And you can’t kill someone with sustained damage (unless you have lots of conditions).

Mmm, sounds like a nice replacement to my old 0 15 0 25 30 zerker d/d ele destroyer. So many FOTM eles went down so hard to that build.
I’m reworking my S/F duelling build. Trying to push Anet to buff the dam thing. As it stands, /d is a better duelling off hand, but, just like the focus. And roaming, and bunkering and everything except stopping projectiles for 10 seconds
