Basicly there´s a build that focuses on crit damage and uses arcane power to make crits happen.
Already i can kill squishier targets within seconds of engaging, and even tankier guardians lose 50% to 75% of their hp.

As they push out ascended gear, it raises the maximum amount of crit dmg achievable. Rings alone bring 2×2%, when they add rest of the trinkets it becomes 6×2%, add full armor which brings another 6×2% and weapons 4×2%.
Basicly 32% more crit damage than currently possible. And with this build, that translates directly to damage with main spike.
So that´s 32% more damage to a build that could already take down squishier builds almost in an instant. Add whatever the power and weapon damge upgrade brings along…. Well you should be able to see the problem.

Basicly, when are they nerfing churning earth to ground (main damage skill) or removing arcane power? Just so i know when to start grinding another set of armor.

I’d start a new class and use the elementalist as a mule. They make fine mules, and unlike real “animal” mules, the are potty trained!

Seriously, it isn’t worth falling into a money pit over getting all this armor. I gave up with the Straights of Devastation as I realized it just wasn’t worth continuing. I waited 2 years to play this game when I found out there was going to be an elementalist class so it is a huge disappointment. Warrior is fun between going to do range with the rifle and melee. I bash Moa birds around if I start becoming board as plenty of Moa killed my elementalist.

So, when will this be nerfed.

Some of the skills were/ are are working as intended, and it’s the tooltips that are outdated.

That being said, I doubt Arcane Power is working as intended.

absolutely nothing op with spvp elementalists, pretty underwhelming now tbh, what your talking about is wvw and pve.. what they really need to do is just cap crit dmg, since people always abuse that for massive spike builds. but i dunno. its wvw.. so who really cares about balance.

To OP,
I have the armor, it hit like 13k~14k against mob in orr which is more or less one hit KO against pve mob .
However you won’t be doing anything else after that so I don’t see the problem.
Remember: churning earth has CD

It’s not really bugged, just more of an over site from Anet. A lot of skills “pulse” and the way it’s coded each pulse is an attack. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the tool tip says next 5 attacks, not next five skills do critical damage. So take burning speed, for example, this skill “pulses” or causes damage as you rush by enemies. Each pulse is criting just not for very much because the base damage per pulse is so low. That’s why burning speed eats up all of arcane power. The trick is knowing which skills work best with arcane power, such as fire grab or churning earth (if triggered at the last second).

I don’t agree with the way the skill works at the moment, but it is possible to still be effective at it when paired with the right skills. I find the combo burning speed/dragons breath, arcane wave, arcane power, fire grab, air attunment (with 15 points in air you get lightning strike, which crits for about 1.4k with my build), RTL, lightening whip to be very effective as an in combat spike. This gets full use out of arcane power and for me is about 8-10k worth of damage.

So, when will this be nerfed.

This is very interesting, and sad, because if that’s the case then Arcane Power is working perfeclty fine and it’s not as good as many were imagining were it “fixed”.

I might toy with AP, but my biggest problem is: what to remove?

Lightning flash is one of my favourite skills, so i hardly see me using AP in its place.

Mist Form/Armor of Earth is another “untouchable” for me, one or the other are a necessity for my playstile.

I could try replace Arcane Shield, but I feel it’s almost an I win against Thieves: a well timed AS will save my rear from nasty Backstab.

Decisions.

Edit: I might also stop being lazy and switch my utilities basing my choice on the opponent I’m facing.

It´s called lightning flash, try it out.

It´s not really a good pve build. Fun toplay with sure, but since you can´t have mf gear, and because survivability isn´t that great, it´s not really the best thing for pve.

You people kinda forget that after the churning earth none of the other skills suddenly dissappear. Rtl backdraft is immediately usable, as is fire skill chains, after which attunement cd on earth is done and rest fo the skills from there become available.
It plays pretty much like normal s/d, except that every 35 seconds you can also spike someone near to death.

The problem i see is that once the crit dmg cap gets bigger, it becomes pretty much certain kill every 35 seconds in wvw.

And yes, some of us do care about wvw balance, we like the game mode. Sadly it´s becoming very apparent that it was just an afterthought put in game never to be considered when making design or balance choices.

Next time go to wvw and ask around, you will notice everyone has at least 22k hp. Some warrior I know of are hitting 40k and almost everyone has more than 1.5k toughness. You don’t kill faster than a DD thief in this build. If you really care about balance, why not go there and QQ about it.

Lightning flash in, arcane wave ~3-4k, churning earth ~11k, Air attunement switch ~1-2k, air 2 ~2k. All in all 17-19k damage to moderately armored target. Sigils of air add another 1-3k depending on your luck, the propability is that it trigger atleast once. So 18-22k damage. That´s within a second.
Believe me, most of the targets die after this, so i call bullkitten on your 22k hp and 1,5toughness at minimum….or people on servers i´ve plaeyd against just like to use glass cannons

I’m calling rubbish on this whole post, looks like made up numbers and an attempt at trolling to me. Screenshots of your damage (in a PvP match, not against dummies) or a vid would be better. Basically I think your lying. Especially when you claim this damage is done “within a second”, remember it takes just over 3 seconds to cast churning earth….I think your just pulling numbers out of the air.

And btw, your calling for a nerf on an ability that takes just 3 seconds to cast, can be interrupted and that any semi-competent player can avoid with something as simple as a well timed dodge roll or walking out of the are of effect (yes even if they use lightning flash whilst channelling)

I’m assuming this is wvw, and the players you are killing are most likely glass cannon or under leveled/under geared.

Against max level players with exotics in wvw your burst wont be killing anything but glass canon keyboard turners in 2-3 seconds solo.

And if you are running anything other than bunker you will be relatively squishy after that initial cc combo.

Nothing is broken (as in OP) for elementalists.

I´m not saying it´s op, nor that i want it nerfed.
I´m worried That they will nerf it when the ascended gear hits wvw, given their track record with ele damage.

But anyway, if you don´t believe me, try it out. It works and is pretty darn fun. Naturaly as a spiker your defense sucks, but nonetheless it can do pretty well in 1v1, and it´s awesome at harassing zergs from the flank or rear, or when ambushing people taking camps.

To get more precise picture of the build search youtube for woodenpotatoes, it´s his build originaly.
