Title says it all. It’s a pretty fun matchup. When you win at least.

Video has a staff duel, 2 dagger/dagger duels and 2 s/f fresh air duels.

Originally I had some commentary planned, but mic broke. Hopefully its still somewhat useful.

Any reason for the different weapons? Or just mixing things a bit up?

I felt like your opponents when fighting with dd were by far the most competent (while in the duel with staff the opponent was pretty bad, maybe not worth it to show).

Also, why do you go from air 5 to fire 2 instead of fire 3? You missed a lot of burning speeds that way, which is an important damage source.

I’ve gotten used to swapping builds to make the most out of duels, since so many matchups are blatantly onesided since HoT.

The staff duel is definitely lowest suspense, and probably least competent opponent. It’s mostly in there because it plays out quite smoothly. Staff amusingly actually has a ton of tools versus rev. With earth 4 and 5 capable of interrupting sword 3, three sources of reflect for sword 2, and tempest defense completely shutting down staff 5. I enjoy staff a lot lately, but I think people don’t enjoy watching it struggle in duels, since it becomes a very defensive playstyle.

The burning speed thing irked me too on rewatching the last duel especially. It became a habit for various reasons, most importantly because the dash is nice for sticking to targets zfter they get up from updraft and try to recover. Also makes the evade frame not go to waste, but I definitely take it too far here. Same with spamming churn.

Is that s/f in duels, solo roaming or group you’d prefer?

Anything solo, so duels and solo roaming. Personally, I dislike group play videos quite heavily. They tend to be a lot less impressive, since you a) have a bigger mess of particles flying arount, b) are often easier (two people in discord against 4 randoms have it way easier than 1vs2 IMO) and c) often are based on good build combinations, but then it’s not an Ele vid but a group vid in perspective of an Ele.

There used to be a time where this matchup was as impossible as they come, so it’s nice knowing there is some things you can do nowadays. Thanks for the compliment though!

Good fights. Is it mandatory to have at least two shining and moving rewards chests above the minimap when uploading a wvw video? Why does no one ever open them when out of combat? This would bug me so much (and actually does when watching these videos)

I’d go Earth Shield instead of Vapor form for that staff build. : D

But, Staff Elementalist probably have some nice tools against the nerfed version of Revenant. But, in season 2 or 1. They only needed to go in Assassin Stance, haste, and drop you with auto attacks. Nothing fancy was actually needed.

Or then, they’d go with the Dwarf + Stability on roll traits, and entirely counter my Lightning Rod build. But hey, I am not even playing this game. Just roaming the forum in rare occasions.
