Staff Ele damage in PVP
Staff is indeed semi viable and not comparable to any of the meta builds. if u wanna make it work u gotta put in the work unfortunately. I definately get what u mean. When i by chance meet a staff ele I honestly don’t even leave the point unless they know how to use thier fields.
Regardless it’s hard to keep the damage consistent.
I’m sure Anet sees staff as more of a control and range damage weapon with some decent healing. Of course they’re totally ok with the insanity of ranger and DH longbows or rev’s hammer, or…well…any other weapon that’s anything similar to staff, including in the CC department, but God help us if staff ever does anything comparable. I guess Anet just thinks that everyone’s gonna camp is fire all game if fireball ever had burning added to it or some kind of buff to staff’s damage.
There are ways to make staff work, but the high mobility of so many professions on top of their sustain make the job far more difficult than it should be. And then you also lose sustain because you can’t run focus with staff obviously, but Conjure Earth Shield is actually a pretty decent utility with staff, so sustain isn’t as bad as with other weapon choices.
Anyway, yeah, staff damage is crap in PvP. It’s a slow and easy to avoid weapon, but in the hands of a player who knows how to utilize the control capabilities, you can make it a fantastic support weapon because it also has some decent healing and also weakness on earth’s AA. It’s also amazing at kiting and area denial.
Air #2 staff should hit like Lich AA , it cant be spammed , its highly obvious , it should at least hit that hard. I hit a thief for almost 10k on my necro in pvp with lich , without the chill of death proc , would be nice to have something similar for ele. Though I do like the fact that air AA actually tracks them in stealth if you hit anyone near them , I have downed a few thief by shooting a rangers pet and letting the bounce find the thief lol.
i’ve been playing fire staff zerker in pvp since beta ad it WAS great,
a few months ago however Anet decided to make a lazy fix for pve/raids were giant monsters with giant hit boxes were getting hit too much by meteor shower,
so Anet put a cap on it, if meteor shower hits anything that isn’t a player then it has a short cooldown before another meteor falls…
that means any mesmer clones, any healing turrets, any minions, any ranger pets etc
they’ve utterly broken the skill, it used to be EPIC now it is “meh”.
staff ele still deals massive damage, but the nerf to meteor shower based on some pve issue isn’t acceptable.
The nerf to Meteor Shower in PvP was pretty negligible. It just put a 0.5 second cooldown on non-player targets, which -as a glass staff ele player- doesn’t even seem noticeable to me.
I don’t think it deals a small amount of damage and I don’t think it’s weak in PvP either. It’s just really hard to play.
