I know, I know… if I’m looking for good game experience I should avoid soloq. But I dont want to. So…

Is the 0/0/2/6/6 staff build only viable in coordinated teams? I really like D/D except that I lack ranged attacks. Staff brings a lot of them but I dont know how it will effect my survival or node-fighting capabilities. Never played staff ele, only in PvE.

That works, but you need an immense amount of experience and muscle memory, plus knowledge of the enemies abilities to truly make use of your staff toolset properly.

If you’re talking about the best “experience”, as in no hair pulling and what not, you’re probably better off using an easier class to play. You might try bunker guard in this particular case.

If you’re too attached to ele, I recommend sticking to D/D until you have a firm grasp of the other classes and what you’re fighting, then you’ll be able to react appropriately no matter what weapons you’re using, and learn the habits of staff quickly.

Yep I’ve been playing staff for the last few days and its annoying and fun at the same time. When I manage to time my reflect (earth #3) well, it can be hilarious: engie net/knockback, ranger rapid fire/point blank, ele ice bow#5 etc. But many times I screw up. I dont know how much potential I have, but soon I will find out. I dont have the courage yet to enter competitive tpvp with staff though. Our node-fighter group has a hambow and a bunker guard besides me so I’m always the first target of the enemy team. Its a little tricky to stay alive on the staff while being focused. (I had the same problem with my D/D set too. :P ) But it seems unless we get a necro (lol) I’ll have to cope with being the enemy’s primary target. Or roll a hambow…

Always keep in mind that staff isn’t made for close range combat or for 1v1. Unless you’re full bunker yourself staff-eles usually need a decent bunker in the team that holds your point while you can cast from a distance (which you don’t always have in soloQ). Also thiefes will wreck you – any match with a decent thief in the enemy team can be very frustrating for you.

Taking these points aside, staff can be very fun to play – even with offensive builds. I often play staff in soloQ with 6P in fire – once you get your positioning right and know how to escape when focused this will be the best experience you will ever have on your ele
