Hey All,

I havn’t seen this around after the patch so here I present you with this awesome condi signet build which I have been playing in tpvp/ solo q for quite a while and it totally dominates any fight specially in 1 v 1 scenario. This build is very easy to use in fact some might gonna call it “skill less” play etc but if it works, I won’t mind using it. Basically, all you have to do is stay in earth attunement all the time and never change it during the fight, reasons being, you HP is very little and you don’t wanna die instantly taking any critical hits while in earth we have “Stone Heart” trait, so you’re always safe there. This is a great dueling build as cheesy as PU condi mesmer used to be.

Sigils used are: Earth and corruption, along with Rabid Amulet.

Here are some pros n cons for this build:

Pros:
1. You can’t get critially hit while having a high condi damage (around 1700), 30% extra duration (could use more condi duration runes) and around 3400 toughness (with Rock barrier) so keep pressing earth skill #1 and use signets whenever you can.
2. You got a variety of additional conditions available at your disposal like immobilize, chill, cripple which are good to mess up with foes mobility.
3. Signets CDs are so low with Fire Shield to yourself which will burn your foes hard.
4. Frequent Blinds – Blinding Ashes will be your saviour many times and be used a lot more frequently in a fight (because of Signet’s fire shield and burning precision traits in fire)
5. No attunement switching hassles, no need to make those mind freaking combos with this build.
6. It’s awesome cause it’s 1st ever easy-peasy-ele build I have come across lol
7. See your foes melting away like never before, this build has potential to even do vs 2 or 3 if you play well.

Cons:
1. You won’t be using any other attunements.
2. Limited condi cleanse but you could change healing skill to Ether Renewal but be careful cause it can be interrupted very easily.
3. Low HP Pool
4. As any other condi class, you will be bursting enemies down slowly.

And because celestial ele is so mainstream, we need a variety now!! No more standing at safe spots, no more fun being squishy, time to facetank them!!

I remember reading a quote once that said, “Meta builds are all about eliminating counterplay”. This was the truest thing I’ve ever read about this game.

- Hambow
- Cele ele
- Instant burst damage ele
- Bunker guardian
- Celestial engineer
etc.

That is why I like unorthodox builds like this one – they have counterplay, are actually balanced and your viewers will actually be able to watch the game and understand WTF is going on. This build has nothing on the ridiculous uncounterable celestial strength rune elementalist, but I like it.

I didn’t see you using elemental shielding for protection though?

Yeah you’re right and I really can’t stand so called meta builds all the time, a little diversity is fun for every class, to keep your interest alive in game. I’m glad I could come up with something interesting like this. Also, yeah I did use protection from earth golem but sometimes I might have forgotten in the heat of fights lol

And yes, those stacks of vulnerbility are from water 2 trait (you put vulnerbility if you use signet), earlier I thought an additional condition would be nice to have but I was suggested to go 2 in air for fury than 2 in water since fury will be better with our Burning Precision trait, so I tried both and found latter was better so now the build in video description is updated. But I did try a lot of things earlier so you might see a little variation in the video footage

In the earth tree have you thought about trading something for elemental shielding? All the signets would provide alot of protection for further survivability.

yeahh I tried elemental shielding, made me feel so safe but here is what I have to say about it, with this build, we are super good against any power build already, our problem remains condi classes, so I thought having lower cd on signets will let me put more condi pressure on them than having to add more toughness thingy. But, it’s quite situational, if I’m called for a duel with axe/x warrior, power mesmer or any such powerful builds, I would definitely take elemental shielding over low cd on signets, tweaks are always good to make so do whatever works best for you. :-)

I feel it becomes much more important to have signet of air since you need the mobility and stun break in WvW style combat. I usually take it over signet of earth, but swapping out signet of water could probably work as well, especially since the passive effect isn’t profound. Signet of fire is a must have though. As a result of this, I feel stone heart has to be dropped in favour of written in stone so that you can preserve your mobility even after popping the signet. It also makes signet of restoration less costly to pop as well.

I haven’t unlocked blinding ashes yet, but I’ve been using burning fire since it affords extra condition clearing. I’m a little wary of blinding ashes since it might make me too vulnerable to conditions.

Also, I usually do FGS in WvW for obvious reasons. Haven’t really toyed around with the elemental too much.

I’ve also just stuck with undead runes for now, although I think almost any of the condition damage-based runesets would work out. I’ve been tempted to try out the runes of Grenth or the runes of the adventurer, personally.

I also use the doom and torment sigils to add condition variety instead of dumping things heavily into bleeding. This requires swapping attunements, but I feel it’s something eles should be doing in general. Camping an attunement can end up being quite damaging in the long run, though it’s obvious why you would want to stay in earth attunement in you’re running stone heart. Combat can differ quite a bit between WvW and sPvP though.

If my build troubled you to counter as a thief, I would take it as my achievement! lol don’t take me wrong but thieves have been so annoying to ele specially in 1 v 1 so i’m glad to see your comment. Though, you figured it out so right about the focus cleanse, you can interrupt our healing skill as well if it’s not the signet heal as you may have seen in my vid, it would work for you mostly but depends how your opponent ele time it, I usually wouldn’t use it too often unless I have burning or poison on me, just saying This is indeed incredibly strong build from the prospective of duels as well as spvp. I played it in tpvp and wvw as well, worked equally great!

I posted this feedback on your Reddit thread, but in case you don’t get to see it there, I’m reposting it here.

Single-attunement elementalists will always have some sort of exploitable weakness when playing against them that’ll make make them less versatile than attunement dancers. However, a build like this does a good job at covering most of them and is certainly a viable playstyle. There’s definitely a few things I would personally change when running this build.

  • First and foremost, I would absolutely run Ether Renewal (or even Glyph of Elemental Harmony) over Signet of Restoration as the primary heal displayed for this build (I know you suggest it as an alternative). Considering the main pressure of this build is to use stone shards for damage, which takes about 2 seconds to go through per cast (including after-cast delay), the healing from this signet is incredibly poor— quite likely even less effective than a regeneration boon in some of your fights in the video. This is amplified by the lack of on-dodge abilities and on-attunement swap effects that also proc the healing in most other builds which run this heal. You can always cover the heal with obsidian flesh or magnetic wave to protect from interrupts.
  • For your WvW build, I would run Giver weapons (+10% condition duration) over dire. Stone shards, your main offensive skill, has a base bleed duration of 6 seconds. That means the magic numbers you want to hit for condition duration are 17/34/50/67/84/100% for extra bleed ticks. At the moment, you have 30%, which adds 1 second to the bleed. Dropping a little bit of condition damage for 2 additional ticks with Giver weapons is, in my eyes, absolutely worth it. It also brings the bonus from fire shield up to 1.5 seconds, which means two hits would produce an extra burning stack. If you are actually going to drop down 40% condition duration food all the time, I would then go to just use a Sigil of Malice in place of Sigil of Bursting to bring up that condition duration to 100%. Either way, with or without the food, I would run Giver weapons in place of Dire. For PvP mode, I would run serrated stones over strength of stone to achieve the same 50% bleed duration increase, which adds far more damage than the 100 condition damage does.
  • Elemental shielding is a little redundant. You have about 3000 toughness (after casting Signet of Earth) and can’t be crit. Direct damage is not a large threat to this build, and there’s no need to further build against something you already dominate. I would personally trait in Earth’s Embrace over Elemental Shielding. It mitigates part of the problem this build has in dealing with CC while also providing another way to get a cast of Ether Renewal off.
  • I’ve played extensively with it, and I still don’t like Blinding Ashes (even after the buff), particularly with Fire’s Embrace as it’ll blow the ICD all the time on pets. 1 blind every 5+ seconds (and it usually is quite a few+) mitigates much less damage than you’d think in 1v1’s, and it just becomes weaker and weaker as more opponents/pets are added. It doesn’t quite strengthen any of the match-ups you’re already strong against (direct damage burst builds, which don’t usually run pets). Condition and pet builds, which are builds that yours have trouble against (lack of condition clear/low HP pool + no AoE if staying in Earth) can be fought against by putting in Burning Fire over Blinding Ashes. I’ve made the change on my own signet elementalist (different weaponset/playstyle, but somewhat similar trait set-up) and prefer it by far.

So to summarize, I would run this version of your build for WvW and this version of your build for PvP.

After watching the video, I also have two pieces of feedback for the playstyle of the build.

  • This is somewhat directed at you because there was a lot of it during the video, but applies to absolutely everyone. Don’t waste your dodges by using them willy-nilly. It helps to play a few dozen games thinking exclusively about only using your dodge when any non-autoattack skill is being cast on you. This’ll get you initially into the habit of watching your opponent and also of not using dodges on autoattacks. After you become more comfortable with this and learn the animations a bit more, you can bump it up to focusing on only dodging high-damage skills and CC. It’ll take a bit of work in the beginning, but it all builds into muscle memory at a certain point and will improve your game.
  • Heavily consider starting fights in a different attunement and then swap into earth. I get that the whole point of a mono-attunement build is to not have to deal with the elementalist class mechanic, but even if you plan to sit in Earth the entire time, you will benefit heavily from just starting in fire/air (your build doesn’t benefit a lot from the water line, so we’ll skip it). Starting in fire would be good for your elite skill, as the elite fire elemental’s active ability is far and away better than the earth elemental’s. Starting in fire also allows you to drop Flamewall for a 10 second fire field that you can use your earth autoattack through for a 20% chance of burning projectile bonus per shard (that’s a lot more burning!). Also a free 5 second fire shield. Meh, but it’s instant and just requires a button press. Starting in air lets you drop Swirling Winds for 6 seconds of anti-ranged pressure that you can comfortably use your earth autoattack for, and you can literally just 2345 in Air and then swap to Earth at the beginning of a fight to get them blinded, knocked down, and have swirling winds up. It’s immensely little amount of work to do for a massive benefit.

tl;dr: Like the idea, but the original build is overkill against direct damage. Make a few anti-condition/CC changes. Dodge smarter. Start fights in fire and/or air.

Starting fights in air then switch to earth is one of the best suggestions I have received on this build !! I will review all the changes you have suggested and will see to update my build accordingly. Thanks again

EDIT: I absolutely think and can clearly see in the video as well that I dodge very carefully and might have dodged a few times here n there in suspecting of an attack but otherwise I use my dodges quite smartly!

with 3.7k armor no zerk can hit me
although conditions base enemy can kill me but my pressure can kill them sooner
i like to rotate a bit as mention above
i will start with air if the enemy is range class thus using SW+Gale+BF
i have no problem in dodging as i get 100% when using AA in air and in earth
i will go to earth so deal heavy pressure
when i need to heal i use OF to secure the heal and condi cleanse
my burning pressure is high with 100% burning duration so AA will last 4 seconds and phoenix to cleanse condition also
i will use water to chill and daze when needed
nice roaming build for wvw and pvp arena

  • Heavily consider starting fights in a different attunement and then swap into earth.

I usually like to start in air, which can get some quick damage and blind in on the 2 and 3, and then I can pop the 4 for some initial projectile defense if I need it against the enemy. Then I usually go for a knockdown with 5 and swap to fire to make them respond to a dragon’s tooth combo. It also gives me a chance to drop the fire wall for blast finishers and use the fire aura, and then I often swap to earth and go for the bleeds and such. On my vairant I don’t run stone heart and do run sigil of doom, so I tend to swap around a lot more, but it’s usually a good idea to just pop some stuff off before camping in earth.

Also you get a 10% movement bonus in air attunement, so that can be useful if you’re walking between nodes in PvP, and then swap once you get there.

I’ve also found that ether renewal works better on the whole. It has the low cooldown, but it also counters a lot of condition assaults, which this sort of build can be a bit weak too, especially if you’re more heavily invested in rabid gear instead of dire.

I still like running the signet since you get the signet bonuses (plus I like gimmick builds), but I think ether renewal is overall better if you’re solo roaming or some such. Just have to be wary of incoming CC so it won’t get interrupted.

It’s nice that there’s at least a bit of flexibility in this style of build to allow for personal or situational preferences.

I find I tend to struggle against very condi heavy classes with this build, even when using burning fire instead of blinding ashes. The signets just don’t fill in the spaces for condi removal (the signet of water passive tends to be of minor consequence), so it can be difficult to keep up with it in a protracted fight.

That’s why using ether renewal instead of signet of restoration can be quite helpful when you’re up against condition heavy classes. It can clean off a lot of conditions quite frequently, and you can even protect yourself with the earth attunement focus skills if you need to.

Of course in WvW you can always spec for a lot more dire gear so you have the vitality cushion to help out. sPvP just doesn’t have the stat variety to make up for the weakness. You could try using carrion for that purpose, but the lack of toughness could perhaps be a worse tradeoff.

Glad to see someone else running a signet condi build. I’ve been running something similar for the last few patches between glass fire staff builds. I have been desperate to find all of the viable builds possible that don’t use arcane or water. Dunno why, but I hate those lines and how everyone thinks they’re mandatory.

Main diffs for me is that I normally run 00662 for the indomitable healing and use a settlers am. Trying out your 6×600 build, and I think I might still like settlers more than rabid. The healing (I use ER) with the extra toughness gives you a higher baseline toughness but with slightly less condi damage.

Not sure if I like your condi dmg or my survivability more yet. Gonna play around with it. Any thoughts? I feel like with your setup I get dropped too often, but that could be me adjusting to the playstyle.

Yeah another negative nancy here! Well, isn’t that quite obvious it will be slower as it’s a full condi build!? Not all builds are made to do everything at faster speed sigh

Broooo,, it says it doesn’t burst enemies fast. I took that to mean players. My PD condi thief takes down players slowly but my goodness does it shred camps fast with caltrops and richocet. Condi can shred player enemies slow and NPC enemies fast, hence why I asked. No need to assault my literacy Thanks for answering my question though.

Diva, not hating. It’s a great build for fighting people. I just hate having fun so I focus on clearing camps.

Oh my dear, not meaning to be rude at all to you, sorry if I sounded so. Yeah since it doesn’t have much aoe attacks, camp clearing will be a but slower as compared to condi necro or thief but try it in roaming, it’s such fun lol. I just love using this build in 1 vs 1, you will win 95% of the time.

P.S. I’m not bro, you can call me sis though :p

Always nice to see someone else trying condi ele! I like your build, it must be very good in 1v1, but fighting against some people using it I noticed it lacks stabilty and cleansing. If I may suggest, I think you should drop blinding ashes and get cleansing fire (trait), another suggestion is taking off signet of fire and adding cleasing fire (utility), my problem with blinding ashes is that in a build like yours, with many ways to burn, it runs a little bit out of your control and is, many times, wasted. I also feel like you run an excessive amount of condition damage, perhaps if you dropped strenght of stone and got earth’s embrace you’d add some stability and be able to deal much better with c/c.

Anyway! Power to you sister!

Your points are pretty valid and I have considered all such suggestions from you guys now, however, blinding ashes I still use but I have given up signet of water for cleansing fire for some additional cleasing. Thanks for your comment :-)

Looks good to me, pure Dire has so much sustain already and this pure condi ele works great for wvw roaming. :-)

I play a similar build to this one except with a staff for the control.. The only class I have any issues with are any half decent necros, they just nail me.. Any ideas on that matchup?

yeah a good condi necro could be a problem, in fact any heavy condi builds will be hard to counter but it’s not so hopeless at all so I personally to counter condi builds (assuming duels), I would change Blinding Ashes to Burning Fire trait and also will switch signet of water to Burning Fire utility for 2 extra condi cleanses. If this doesn’t seem enough, I could also change earth master trait to “Geomancer’s Alacrity” for faster cooling down of earth skills which will give us access to “Magnetic Wave” every 20 secs which is pretty good. Do let me know if these suggestions work for you
