So I didn’t know a staff ele could be an option in tpvp, just saw this video and thinking of giving it a try

Do people play full dps staff ele that frequently, I’m not sure how viable it is in current meta.

Full dps staff ele works at average level with a coordinated team, it’s really efficient for mid clearing but apart from that you’re obviously squishy as hell. It requires a good sense of positioning and any thief/ roamer/ burst dps class will eat you alive if they know what they are doing. It’s fun for a while but i can’t recall seeing this used in high level tpvp. But my memory is lacking so i’m waiting for someone to deny that.

yeah man, but the player in this video has managed really well as far as I noticed. I’m also looking for more views from some expert elementalist.

Every time that player struggled against the NPCs, I winced.

Anyway, if I was going to play Staff Ele in tPvP, I’d try one of these builds:

I do play a staff ele in Tpvp but wasn’t aware it was THAT rare. It is fun and does ask you to work out quite a bit but it is very rewarding.

I see staff ele occasionally in yoloQ, and while its nice to see something that requires skill rather than cheesey AI builds (engis I’m looking at you), I find them pretty easy to dispatch when I play S/F, but that being said, I do respect their raw moxie when it comes to winning team fights.

I thought I heard that a top tpvp used staff ele in its comp to do well one of the last few big tournaments, but since “e-sports” is both tedious and uninteresting to follow to the letter, I am not too certain about this.

I once argued with an ele I met in hotjoin about the merits of S/F (my preffered pvp build) compared to staff and D/D. He argued that staff and D/D were far more in the meta for many reasons, mostly due to the staff and D/D having great AoE, while Scepter having crappy autoattacks, as well as D/D having great survivability and mobility, while S/F having very little of that and very little control/ranged AoE like staff does. I think hes right to an extent, but regardless I think its very healthy for eles that there is a decent amount of raw viable build diversity for them compared to some of the other professions. And true, while we often trait heavily into water/arcane, whether as a crutch or for utility/survivability, there certainly is a good amount of variation to fulfill the same role of winning teamfights, and a more specialized build of support vs off-point roaming.

So TL:DR, staff is viable, but you’ll probably be less frustrated if you run it on a legit team, mainly due to the lack of confidence I typically have in most of my teams in yoloq.

I run full glass pirate 6/6/0/0/2 when runing with my guild on tpvp. Playing on the top 500s in tpvp. Thieves and mesmers will tear you apart but can be countered with good teamplay. Its a high risk high reward build which if played corectly can turn the tide in any team fight. Dueling will get some getting used to but is possible. Its harder to pull off on yoloqueue though since you can’t have any reliabke backup in that game mode.

Its very good training though. Since staff eles are most good target selectors choice target. You will cry, grind and hate it but trust me it will make u much better when you go for the killer dnd spec.

I’d say staff ele in tpvp is doable. In fact all weapon combinations are doable in tpvp. Just gotta know your enemy and make sure you bring the right counters to everything. This means, passive healing, passive and active condition removal, dps, cc, support and some spell or another that lets you stomp people without getting interrupted. Too often I’ve seen players play really well but then fail to stomp in time or at all.

Earlier I had two kinda newish staff eles on my solo Q, and I had to babysit them to whole match, and neddless to say we lost horribly.. once again its a great spec for real teams, but for randomly made ones, it can do more harm than good unless you really know whats up.
