Staff ranges bugged or misrepresented?
It seems like the range is for when the projectile will hit the target in the chest. The projectile doesn’t dissappear when it reachs that range and will keep going until it hits the ground. Water and earth attacks do the same thing, but their arch is steeper, so the range is a bit shorter, plus fireball has a 90 radius aoe effect that extends it’s range a little bit more.

In fire attunment you can hit target in 1200+120 (FireBall aoe range) range. That’s the reason.
Never would have guessed that, thanks! Still find it odd though,
since in order to get the aoe you would have to initially hit the
target which is 1200 range.
Also, you’ll notice that the other 3 attunements are supposed to be faster than Fire but they actually aren’t.
fireball goes way more than 1.2k range simply because the projectile doesnt disappear nearly as fast as most others. it is also one of the atk that benefit most from height advantage, u actually do get to hit further since it doesnt disappear at 1.2k
