I made an elementalist recently out of boredom and while it’s fun, I think there could be a better way to handle weapons. In wvw combat I have felt limited as far as having to make a hard choice on what distance I want to fight at. When I run staff, I am at a complete disadvantage when forced into melee combat. The flip side is that I feel unable to compete effectively against ranged if I use dagger, scepter or focus. Even with the variety that attunements provide, I still feel at a disadvantage so here is the suggestion…
Allow for two weapon swaps, but only two attunements can be used per weapon slot. Example, slot #1 has staff attuned to water and air. Slot #2 is dagger/focus attuned to fire and water.
Both attunements, and of course weapon(s), are locked until out of combat.
The same attunements can used regardless of slot, so all weapons chosen can run the same attunements if desired.
Thoughts? Had this been brought up before?

Various suggestions to implement weapon swap have been suggested in the past. Being limited to a single weapon and using the attunement system to switch abilities is what makes the elementalist so unique; I’m really not in favor in taking that away. It also opens up a plethora of balance concerns, even if it were limited to only two attunements like you suggested.
No. Its a bad ideal for the ele class.
I would be a fan of a trait, that gives weapon swap instead of elemental swap. The swap triggers ele swap effects and is on a 5-6s CD. So its a tradeoff. 3 elemets against weapon swap and a shorter swap CD.
Of couse variations are possible like you dedicate a traited element to a weapon set and loose untraited element swap. This would be gorgeous. Trait 2 elements, link each to a weapon set and have a reduced swap timer between these two.

Just give out of combat weapon swap or an accended/legendary auto collection bag so my kittening incinerator doesn’t get lost every time I swap to staff and back
well i am not a fan of on thy fly tools/trait/weapon changes ;-). This should be done only in safe zones.
But the game is designed around adapting to situations at the highest level. The fact templates still don’t exist is astonishing

How about this…
We have 2 weapon slots. If you have one weapon slotted then everything remains as is. If you use both weapon slots then you pick two attunements per set…
would be a plain advantage to have 2 Attunements per weapon. My suggestion to have 1 attuenemnt per weapon set is more balanced. the swap time reduction makes up for the loss of two element sets.
And yes templates would be great. Only usable when in a “Home Zone” but one klick and the trais + utilities are changed. And one for Armor/weapon if you have it in your back.
I think two would be well balanced.
I believe having weapon swapping done this way would make this profession a lot more fun to play and more competitive at different combat ranges.

I doubt that they care about the class. I mean warriors with 27k hp and heavy armor are running around in pvp cleaving for 5k and rampaging for 9k on staff eles with Marauder’s amulet doing less damage with less health, less armor and longer cast times and they still nerfed the Fire trait line and Vigor. Then there is Tempest that is recycling animations/emotes/auras and looks rushed from start (Warhorn clunky animations) to the end (elite skill scrapped and redone in a few days).
I love the game in general but when it comes to the elementalist class no real improvements are being done.

They know that its not a good ideal there is no point in responding to every one of these. If you give ele wepon swap you END ele.
Weapon swap out of combat isn’t a bad idea though. It offers no unfair advantages and in fact allows ele’s to gain the benefit all other classes (except engi’s) have when it comes to stacking sigils. Being able to gain stacks and swap to another weapon and keep the stacks.
Not having this option has been unfair since the day they patched out being able to equip another weapon and keep stacks. On both ele’s and engineers.
I’ll say “definitely” not to actual weapon swapping on ele.
However I’d love if we could have an out-of-combat weapon swap. You can already do that easily in the inventory but unequipped weapons don’t remember their last position and get mixed with regular weapons (even with special bags, ascended ones do), and having them in your hero panel would help a lot.
Don’t even think about touching the ele class mechanic. It is fine in the way it is.
Let’s talk about the real problem you have. While WvWing as an ele, you have two meta ways to play it: with staff within a zerg or with dagger dagger while roaming. If someone gets in close combat while zerging, your zerg is about to wipe or your movement was bad (or you have to get rid of the focus party as fast as possible). You have got a lot of tools to survive and cc your enemies on your staff. There are even some staff roaming ele who are able to kill most enemies in 1on1s.
I hate to say it but this is a l2p issue. Learning how to ele takes some time but it is very rewarding.
