I’ve always liked playing support-ish roles in group content, and want to do it with Tempest in terms of Fractals and Raids. But I’m wondering if conditions (using Seraphs) would be a better way to deal damage while doing so.

Your damage will be abysmal anyway, so pick whatever suits your fancy. You’ll have a hard time finding raid groups to support though, unless you have a static which is willing to experiment.

Condi works better with support way better then power dmg. Condi only needs 1 combo to be effective where power needs at least 3.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

I had this discussion with a veteran Ele friend of mine the other day.
Seraph’s gear is fun-looking but hard to utilise fully, and not actually that good for an Ele.
If they’re gonna be healing, they need some bulk (pref. vitality due to low health pool) is why Apothecary/Magi is better. With Shaman, you can do something like 3-4k dps per second while giving out CONSISTENTLY GREAT heals and amazing support via auras and protection/vigor sharing.

Seraphs is sufficable for a Druid/Engi (if people let you bloody play it) and a couple others prolly like a Revenant hybrid perhappps, but it falls a little short on ele.
Also, to make Seraphs do ANY damage, you neeeeeed the condition duration in your runes/sigils and food. It’s mandatory.

I agree with most of what you say, however, Shaman is quite useless in general. If you wish to support as an elementalist you only have 3 options, which are Magi, Apothecary and Clerics. The reason for that is that you want to maximise your healing output, so healing power needs to be the gear main stat.
Apo is best for fractals with dagger warhorn, and Magi is best for raids with also, either dagger warhorn or staff.

For fractals wouldn’t Apothecary and Clerics give you too much toughness?

Also for healing wouldn’t Zealot’s be the better choice for fractals? Power/Precision/Healing power. While it won’t pack the punch full zerk does it seems like the most logical option to support and actually do some damage.

For Raids you are correct. Whenever toughness tanking is involved there, you dont want toughness on your healer, which is why i say to use Magi there, but in fractals the extra toughness is not only helpful with survival, but you grabbing aggro actually is a good thing. You can be both, the tank and group healer, supporter, with that setup, which is amazing.
As for damage, Apothecary is your best bet, which is why i use it. With a dagger warhorn setup, which you should use for fractals, you will do quite a bit if damage while supporting. Warhorn earth 5 for the blinds also stacks good bleeds, as does overload earth, which you use for protection stacking anyway. You can stack some neat burnes as well with fire attunement, so apo really is the best option. I tried it on a golem and i get 4-6k dps if i focus on damage.
But remember, your job as a support ele is not to deal damage. Its to give out permanent 40% damage reduction via protection, perma vigor and MASSIVE hps with good burst healing in between and rebound to ignore one shot mechanics. It makes 100cm runs stupid easy.
