Tempest BW1: Let's Vote!
1. Tempest (Overall): 1
2. Traits: 1
3. Warhorn: 3
4. Overloads: 1
5. Healing Skill: 1
6. Utilities: 3
7. Elite Skill: -100
8. Animations & sound effects: make it a kazoo
2.
Traits-Aura builds are a no go.
Warhorn-good, but needs lower cd’s and more damage.
Overloads-sometimes okay to use, most of the time pointless.
Healing Skill-I liked the healing skill.
Utilties-Really good utilities too, but the shouts should all be 25-30 seconds.
Elite-Weakest elite in the game besides all of the other ele elites.
Sound effects-annoying. Imagine call of the wild being spammable every second and that is what warhorn ele sounds like
Bad Elementalist
Also to clarify on your previous vote it would have been a 38.54% score rating. Your point system makes it look much better than it is as the following would relate to scores:
1) Really Liked / Loved it (11 votes) = 100%
2) It was good. (6 votes) = 75%
3) It was neither good nor bad. (11 votes) =50%
4) It was bad. (27 votes) = 25%
5) Hate it / It was terrible. (17 votes) = 0%
Then scoring it based on that you’d get my above percent which describes it far more accurately.
Thanks, will use your method then. It does seem more detailed and better representative.
Now that we got a chance to try the elite specialization, share your thoughts using the vote system below and let’s see how the BW1 changed the community views:
5) Love it! Wouldn’t change a thing!
4) It was good, needs just a few tweaks here and there.
3) It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t terrible. Needs some fixes.
2) It was bad, needs a lot of fixes.
1) It was horrible. Scratch/rework it completely. Please vote in the following categories: (You don’t have to vote in all, but it is recommended)

Nothing really stand out as “great”, unlike the Chronomancer, Dragon Hunder and Reaper. Honestly I hope this is a really early alpha and that they plan to work very hard to make it viable. Warhorn was a tough sell, and so far I’m not buying it (figuratively speaking… since I already bought the expansion anyway). The least it needed was a good elite, but instead it got an elite worse than every elites already in the game.

Tempest capability is dragged down by bad overloads that have a HUGE 3-fold cost (5s before use, 5 s channel to complete without being interrupted, AND 20s attunement CD), for which a proportional benefit would require they be incredibly over-powered to ever be worth that cost. The best option is to decrease the cost (remove time before use or attunement CD afterwards, decrease channel time) and slightly buff the effects (they are currently little better than just auto-attacking in terms of effect, as even the water one heals only marginally more than a few procs of SoR). With balanced overloads, proper traits can be designed.
Warhorn also doesn’t really feel like its doing anything all that different from dagger or focus offhand, but it does feel like it does those same things just worse. The useless skills need a real re-work.

From those that posted, It looks like nobody likes the new Elite skill and most dislike the Overloads. I wonder if anyone ever is going to vote for something more than “1” for the Elite

The new elite is a joke. Reasons:
- it’s not even a shout hence neither Tempestuous Aria nor Rune of the Trooper works with it
- the delay between finishing the cast and actually getting a buff is quite severe, about 2s after finishing a cast, so about 2,75s realistic cast time.
- it doesn’t work with shouts if you have Tempestuous Aria
- it doesn’t work with Overload Earth
- it doesn’t work with warhorn skills if you have Imbued Melodies equipped
- it triggers on autoattacks
- it triggers on attunement swaps but it won’t reduce their cooldowns
And that’s probably just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to this “elite” skills of this “elite” specialisation.

Offensive utilities won’t work on ele – we would already run around with Arcane stuff and offensive Glyphs if it would make any sense to replace the Cantrips. The elite skill might help out Staff Ele for Static and Meteor just as reduce the recharge on Overloads … if the overloads would be any stronger. I had the feeling that 25% doesn’t seem enough. Maybe it could be fixed by a trait for Shout-CD-reduce. Once you have a Mesmer as an enemy the Overloads are just one more weakness for the elementalist. The healing skill’s cast time is too long for the healing value. In summary the Tempest is ok for PvE but not ready for sPvP or WvW.

Switching the scale around from 1 being best to 1 being worst between these 2 polls seems an ill choice because it could give a few false positives by people voting the wrong way. Anyway, here’s my vote (last time I voted 4 as in bad for tempest):

I main Ele since GW2 day one, and I have to say, the Tempest is the biggest slap in the face we could ever have gotten. At this point, I could actually feel happy if they removed the specialisation altogether and Ele became the only specialisation-less class.
It needs serious rework: Warhorn skins and animations are severely lackluster and underwhelming, the overload mechanic pretty much equates to placing a big bright arrow on top of your head saying ‘Please interrupt me’, what we get from overloading an attunement does not justify being locked out of it for 20 seconds (even when traited to reduce the cd), and the elite is both incredibly useless and not Tempest-like, it almost feels like they ran out of ideas and decided to shoehorn in a mechanic that would thematically best fit another class – say the Chronomancer.
Whilst the new elite specialisations are meant to unlock new play style mechanics, if the new mechanic is lackluster and in all aspects inferior to the already existing ones, it pretty much means that it will not be used.
I sincerely hope that Anet is looking at the massive negative feedback the Tempest is getting. I belive it would not be disproportionate for them to pull back on the Tempest, rework it based on feedback, and present it anew.

Yeah, I debated doing that, but I felt that before it was mixing some ppl up so I changed it. Hopefully with the new warning sign this won’t be repeated and it is more visually clear to give a 1 out of 5 as a bad score rather than the other way around.

You have created a sepcialization that goes against the very nature of the profession. There is very little reward for the risk of a pb aoe when we have the lowest armor HPs in the game.
You need to up the damage on the overcharge, reduce the cast time, add stability to the cast, and make it castable at 1200 range. It would make sense if we could call down a storm from range, and target where the storm lands.
Damage needs to increased substantially on air/fire.
Overload of water should be a giant AoE heal that cures conditions of all in the radius.
Overload of Earth should grant AoE protection/stability.
1. Tempest (Overall): 4
2. Traits: 4 (Not sure about Earth Proxy, but everything else looks good to me)
3. Warhorn: I am stuff ele
4. Overloads: 5 (My comments below.)
5. Healing Skill: 5
6. Utilities: 3 (Nice skills, but in PvE shouts won’t replace more DPS related skills, and likewise in PvP and WvW, shouts won’t replace Cantrip. As far as I can tell at this moment utility skills are situational use only.)
7. Elite Skill: 1 (My comments below.)
8. Animations & sound effects: 4 (Shouts are awesome!)
Overloads: I don’t have problem with how it works, and I think recharge is at right place. Originally I thought effects are not as strong as I hoped but carefully reading tooltips it’s actually pretty powerful. I don’t know why so many people complain. When Overlaod fire does more dmg than Firestorm, Overload Air does more dmg then Lightning storm with less recharge. Water not only heal but give 10s regen and remove condi every pulse. This is like AoE Ether Renewal.
“Rebound.”: This… Only can be used by organized group by that I mean people with voice communication tool. Otherwise I don’t see this skill to be used properly ever by general players. 25% recharge reduction seems lame. I rather want an elite skill that can reset recharge on all attunements (extended Fresh Air!) than this.

1. Tempest (Overall): (1) It was horrible. Scratch/rework it completely.
So overall tempest was something I KNOW i won’t bother playing on HoT, staff is still superior and not having a single useful main hand weapon to use with it is such a bad idea.
2. Traits: (2) It was bad, needs a lot of fixes.
Missing lots of stuff.
3. Warhorn: (1) It was horrible. Scratch/rework it completely.
Lackluster, same as point 1.
4. Overloads: (2) It was bad, needs a lot of fixes.
Even though i liked the concept, i don’t see as they are right now to be used by any ele, cause they have an initial 5second cd (witch is more than an ele stays in any attunment), and getting your attuenments to a 20sec cd just for a mediocre skill, with a high cast time is a NO & NO.
5. Healing Skill: (1) It was horrible. Scratch/rework it completely.
This one it will not being used other than the sound effect trolling.
6. Utilities: (2) It was bad, needs a lot of fixes.
Need a little support from traits.
7. Elite Skill: (1) It was horrible. Scratch/rework it completely.
useless
8. Animations & sound effects: (3) It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t terrible. Needs some fixes.

I vote 5 across the board. I think I’m the only person who loves the Tempest, but hey, that’s how I roll. Does need more skills like Armor of Earth though.

Originally I thought effects are not as strong as I hoped but carefully reading tooltips it’s actually pretty powerful. I don’t know why so many people complain.
The effects are fine on their own, but the opportunity cost to use them makes them bad. You’d be better off with the standard stance dancing and skill-throwing, both in terms of safety and in terms of actual effect. Overloads are higher risk for inferior reward.
EDIT: My ratings:
Tempest (Overall): 2
Traits: 1
Warhorn: 3
Overloads: 0
Healing Skill: 2
Utilities: 2
Elite Skill: 3
Animations & sound effects: 4
Traits: Meh. They’re ok, I guess, but they don’t compare favorably to the traits from the bread-and-butter lines. Also, the Master and Grandmastor minor traits are inexcusable. They should’ve been part and parcel of Overloads as a base, or they should’ve been a Major trait. It’s just ridiculous that Overloads would necessarily grant you particular boons but for those boons to be part of different traits.
Warhorn: Lots of cool skills. Don’t know that I like it as much as the offhand Dagger (and the offhand Focus needs fixes more than we need another offhand support weapon), but I can see getting some use out of this. I would be much more interested in using it if it weren’t tied to Overloads, though.
Overloads: Actively terrible. The basic effects are sorta ok, but they aren’t worth the time or the risk. My preference would be for the effects to be increased greatly but then for your weapon skills in that attunement to be locked out until the recharge ends. Then they could be game-changers and using them would also feel far more momentous.
Healing Skill: It’s ok. Doesn’t seem better than the other options outside of niche situations.
Utilities: Same thing. Ok, but I’d still rather have Cantrips. Guardians can get away with packing a bunch of shouts because they have enough natural survivability but surviving heavy fire as an Ele is very rough without at least two Cantrips.
Elite Skill: Kinda a boring effect. Like, it could be useful in coordinated groups but most people manage their cooldowns just fine right now without help. Still, this could be useful in situations where our other elites aren’t.
Animations & Sound Effects: Not much to say here other than that I do really like the animations on the new stuff. Very snazzy.

Based on OneKlickill rating system
Overall, I would say Tempest and Warhorn are a 3. Nothing really good or bad, just kinda of meh….. I think the Elite Specializations should be something that every class/profession wants to take because its just so utterly awesome. The utilities are kinda of cool but I think they need to go back and rework them a bit. We should have the ability to reduce CD or maybe incorporate that into the Rebound (Elite). All shouts recharge instantly. Reduce recharge of parties next skill by 25%…..
The healing skill would be nice if it were also a water field for blasting.
Hardy and Speedy Conduit should be combined or even merged with Harmonious Conduit.
Auras should stack, not just Frost aura.
Warhorn and Shouts should have a reduce recharge.
The warhorn skills + Traits should add boon stripping, granting boons, or converting condi to boons. This should be party wide (5 targets). By doing this, just maybe more folks will be enticed to take Tempest over Arcane or Water.
Also, Ele is just missing some damage from Tempest and Overloads……

Overall: 2
It’s ok, but falls far short of what it could’ve potentially been.
Traits: 2
Many of them need to be reworked or consolidated. Tempestuous Aria not giving 20% shout CD reduction, no trait for stability on overload, vigor on attuning to water is useless and doesn’t thematically make sense as a tempest trait, no damage multiplier to make the trait line attractive over water / arcane in PvE, etc.
Warhorn: 4
No complaints here, except would’ve preferred a main hand weapon. Haven’t used it too much though.
Overloads: 2
Has the potential of changing profession gameplay style via its risk and reward nature. Problem is it’s almost never worth it right now in its current state. In PvP it’s easily interrupted, and in PvE standing next to a boss for the entire channel without the ability to dodge will get you killed. Either increase the reward of successfully channeling an overload or decrease the costs.
Suggestion: Finishing a channel creates some sort of object that persists until attunement switch. The tornado in fire overload would stay there and deal damage continuously, and when switching attunements it could detonate and burn nearby enemies or something. Same with other overloads.
Healing Skill: Haven’t used it enough to make a decision.
Utilities: 4
Eye of the storm feels lacking for 45 second CD. Maybe it’ll be better if super speed was not bugged. Everything else looks fine although I’m unsure if it’ll provide viable alternatives for cantrips in PvP or ice bow / glyph of storms for PvE.
Elite Skill: 1
Remove it. Balance and numbers aside, it doesn’t fit tempest thematically.
Animations / sound effects: 4
Some animation inconsistencies with overloads (end of earth overload for example) and generic warhorn sounds. Overall pretty good. I do personally think overloads should be more “flashy” however.

1. Tempest (Overall): 3
2. Traits: 2
- Core mechanic of overloads used as minors
- Overloads traits are complicate to evaluate until Overloads are buffed/fixed
- Frost aura works different than the others, making it both non intuitive & the most interesting aura to share because every time it reapplys the other traits sinergize with it. I think this re-apply pseudo time stacking could be an awesome trait for all auras to have.
- Many uninteresting traits (viggor in attuning? more might? movement impeding protection but not to interrupts?, what about some more love for shouts & Warhorn)
3. Warhorn: 4
- It reeeeeally needs at least 1 blast finisher
- A movement skill would be awesome too
- See the feedback post, overall nice
4. Overloads: 2, almost 1
- Interrupts make them PvP useless
- Are all close combat
- Fire and Air do almost the same (dmg in a small area near you)
- Don´t really add anything new to what the attunements already do & in fact
- Are underpowered compared to what you can achieve with normal rotations
5. Healing Skill: 3
Its ok.
6. Utilities: 3
- If they really want to compete with cantrips I think some kind of active or real defense is a must, the healing of the GM trait is a beginning but its still not enough.
- Other than that in the feedback post are good things to read
7. Elite Skill: 1
I doubt it needs more explanations.

Tempest (Overall): 5
I’ve been having plenty of fun using it, and as a Fire Ele, I love being rewarded for camping my attunement. I’ve found myself very rarely feeling the need to switch attunements, and that’s a good thing for me.
Traits: 4
Seems about on par with other lines and adds more Aura options. Really don’t understand why people hate on Aura traits. I’ve been having a lot of fun with them recently.
Warhorn: 5
May not have the utility of Focus or the damage of Dagger, but it provides superior party support. Basically, it has its own role to set itself apart from the other offhands, and that’s pretty much the best you could hope for.
Overloads: 5
A nice bonus, not too powerful, and using them isn’t nearly as punishing as I imagined they would be.
Healing Skill: 3
An okay alternative; it just doesn’t jive with my personal playstyle.
Utilities: 3
Work well with Overloads since you can use them during Overloads, and they’re great party support. I don’t see myself bringing more than two at a time, if more than one though.
Elite Skill: 1
Hilariously underpowered and easy to waste. Also has that annoying lag between completing the shout and actually applying the boon. I understand that it’s a warning for allies to know Rebound is coming up, but if you’re going to bring Rebound at all, you’re probably going to want some pre-existing team coordination anyway. If you use it with a high-cooldown skill, the skill is still on a high cooldown. No one really cares if you shave a minute off Time Warp since you’re still going to wait two minutes to use Time Warp again, and it’s pointless to use on low-cooldown skills. It feels like the kind of skill that only has use in long world boss battles like Golem and Tequatl, and even then I’d rather bring in FGS.

I basically really enjoyed the class, I played it like my D/D Ele, only using Overloads and Shouts a lot. I wasn’t hugely sold on the heal, or the Elite, but I had a lot of fun and it was my favorite of the beta classes. Did not touch the warhorn though, nor do I plan to aside from maybe testing it a bit. Looking above, there are either a lot of salty, salty people, or they got the rating system wrong.

Or you are one of the few people who enjoy the downgrade.
Since someone dared criticising others idea in this topic, i think he deserve this treatment too.
But well i’m too old for this Kitten so lets be quick: maybe there is a lot of people actually knowing the class (wouldnt be a surprise in the ele sub forum) and you’re not part of them ?

Im very concerned about the pve community possibly putting the idea into anets head that overloads are fine because they are definitely not. As much as I hate most of the tempest design, I can not deny a lot of it could potentially be viable with a little bit of additional balance. Overloads on the other hand need a lot of work done to them…

It’d be about time if the devs actually started to remember that the PvE side of the game exists when it comes to power design. Not every build needs to be about the sPvP meta. I could see how Overloads might not be useful in PvP, in whcih case, don’t run a Tempest in PvP, and maybe they could be improved too, but the basic concept is fun, and works quite well in PvE when there are plenty of mobs around to hit with them.

The issue is that:
Everything works in pve so you cant design for pve.
By the way, staff is meta in pve, DD works fine, DF is meta in high fractal … see what they did here ? every weapon set up can be used in pve
PVP: DD meta and staff is in a little niche
