Tempest F1-F4 skills
Yeah, that’s not happening. Attunement swap is instant with no prediction, this would be too strong, especially the knockback on air.
I considered it giving AoEs or buffs on swap, but it seems a bit close to what traits can do already. Although, I did have post a similar idea with AoEs on swapping, but they required charging first…
The problem, as I see it, with the PBAoE/melee brawler idea is the fact that the Reaper does that role quite well already. Not to mention the fact that that’s essentially what D/D Ele does.
With the reveal that ArenaNet are changing how F1-F4 skills work if you spec into an Elite specialization. My theory with Elementalist/Tempest is that attunements are going to have additional effects when you press the button again kind of like when you use Glyph of Elementals and Glyph of Lesser Elementals . For example
-Fire: Create a violent blast at your location damaging and applying burning to foes
-Air: With a gust of wind knock back foes from you
-Water: Reduce the temperature near you chilling foes
-Earth: Churn the earth around you creating quick sand which cripples foes
Apart from adding fifth attunement, this to me seems the most likely of what ArenaNet will do. Feel free to disagree.
Engineer can already do all this with P/S flamethrower toolkit nades.

I think it will be more likely that Ele gets an F5 the same way Chronomancer gets one, and maybe stances as Tempest utilities.

An F5 feels really awkward on Ele.
It can’t be a new attunement, or they have to design new skills for every weapon.
If it is something like an elite skill that mesmer gets, it doesn’t look right by putting it on the same bar with the attunement F1-4.
Also, remember chronomancer gets essentially a new elite skill because they only get 2 new weapon skill. While for ele, if it is a mainhand weapon, that means 12 new weapon skills.

What is with this counting? what if mesmer get 2 skills and we would get 12? mechanics of those professions are different, so counting amount of skills for sake of equality isn’t in this case what equal mean. We are mages of elements so if we get new weapon it would be rather against it if we would get only 1set of skills (even mixed). I have no problem with 5th attument and bunch of skills for each weapon: core weapons = 15 + new weapon = 10-15 = 25-30 new skills for new attument and new weapon. If we get new f mechanic like aspects we get with 3 aspects: sun, lightining, wind it is 45 new weapons skills that replace core + 6-9 new weapon skills for new weapon = 51-54 new weapons skills that replaced core. I think we also don’t get full set of utilities just healing and elite and I’m ok also with that.
Considering that it is called Tempest and that in artistic/literature works that title has been used to describe storms of epic magnitude I would imagine that we are getting some AoE/dps utility skills that work in synergy with the sword. Now if only they could increase the AoE cap on the elementalist.

I’m leaning toward F-skill combos, with a second skill available in the slot once you’re in a given attunement. (e.g. Hit F1 while in fire to do blahblah.)

Lol wat? I am not the dev, don’t start bashing at me. I am just guessing what devs are thinking. The chance is that there won’t be a new attunement.
A tempest would blur the lines between attunements. For tempest every time you attune you proc the bonus of all attunements you have traited. Anything that uses the word attune or attuning will proc as long as it has been traited for.
So Water Magic, Fire Magic, Tempest
Any attunement could cause the following to happen
fire aura (20% chance), sunspot, healing ripple, remove 1 condi.
The stances that fill the utility slot could be Fire, Water, Air, Earth. When a stance is active it counts a you being in that attunement. And you gain the same bonus as those mentioned in the previous paragraph when the stance is activated.
So Fire: deal 10% more damage and every skill you use grants you might.
Water: those around you regenerate health, 20% more damage to vulnerable foes
Air: move 10% faster, gain 150 ferocity,
Earth: you gain 120 toughness, you cannot be crit
Obviously the numbers need to be tweaked but the huge benefit to stances in this way is that it would hypothetically stack effects that proc based on attunement like evasive arcana or most of the glyphs.

Yeah this is what I meant in the OP, the skills were just an example and not something I expect to be happen

the only way I will bother making an ele will be if they swap out all 4 attunments for some more black magic style ones like , chaos (confusion magic) dark (blinding magic) concealment (stealth magic) and binding (immobilise/cripple magic). I want my dark mage. I expect ele spec be disappointing thou but who knows could be anything.
I only hope for 2 things.
1) Sword hits 5 targets and has 600 range
2) Tempest is highly mobile
