Eye of the Storm is actually one of the very few things that is not terrible.

I am lazy to write it over and over. So sorry for my English.

Let’s Get Constructive guys.
So elemenalist is lacking a frontline role, and warhorn is supposed to fill that spot.

You should first ask the question why ele needs a frontline role? Does mesmer? Thief?…………………

The question is rather, why does ele need another frontline role? They can already do frontline duty with d/d or d/f specs pretty well.

Melee range isn’t necessarily frontline, mesmer can do the same after all.

Jade Quarry [SoX]
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Perhaps some eles would use Eye of the storm instead of mistform. EotS is AoE and has shorter cooldown while Mist form negates damage and has some synergy with water traits. It’s certainly not terrible, but it’s nothing special either.

Here’s an idea for how they could appease us, so I can think positively about this for a change. Currently, most of the elite specs don’t seem to have much to do with the expansions storyline, the exceptions being the likely Glint Rev spec and quite probably druid. Before we had any info, I think myself and a lot of others expected a Zephyrite Ele elite spec, because it would go along really well with the HoT story. They’ve told us that there are more elite specs coming, but not how soon – why bother waiting for another expansion though? It’s quite probable that another elite spec could roll out in a matter of months rather than years, and it could come along with further zephyrite involvement in the story. From the sounds of it, they intended to do something similar with new legendaries. According to them, they’ve played around a lot (hopelessly perhaps, but we shall see) with our elite spec, and did mess around with sword. That makes it quite possible that a lot of the work is there, and quite easily salvageable, particularly since whole new game mechanics wouldn’t likely be necessary. After HoT releases, they could focus a lot more on new elite specs with the intention of mending ties with the community over what we don’t like or don’t need.

Duhsziu – Revenant
Polyscia – Elementalist
Mercedene Underfoot – Thief

They’re not going to change the Warhorn to make it a range weapon even if they suddenly decided to listen to the community.

Not to be overly negative, but you do realize that we will be stuck with the same staff skills and cantrips (with 1 shout perhaps in some builds) until they make a second expansion? The only difference will be the overload which does less damage than a rotation and the new elite that barely does anything at all.

For the first 2 months it may be cool to have a new weapon, but everyone will go back to staff soon after and it’s going to be the same game as it is now, because the new stuff just isn’t as interesting as it should be for an expansion of that price.

…….

We are already waiting several month for something good to be done to the elementalist and until the expansion is finished several more months havem gone past and then on top of all that waiting we should wait another set of several months for ANet to fix the kitten they added or did not add in the expansion? Not acceptable.

This expansion is the only chance for ANet to show they care to fix the lack of build diversities. I am not going to wait several more months after waiting several months for the expansion.

This. And as a PVPer, if Tempest isn’t viable and offerning a new playstyle different from the default d/d then I don’t have ANY REASON to buy the expansion.

Tempest seems to offer new playsyles, but it doesn´t fix annything eles wait for eons.
Also tempest seems only to offer strong support which is the last thing ele needed. If you want to build a pure supporter fine, tempest seems to do it well otherwise it looks quite unintresting. The shouts looked useful when added to other non tempest builds (auramancer types), but this is not possible … So it seems beside beinig flasy tempest and thus HoT offers nothing to 80% of the ele comunity.
I personaly woul like to try out adding shouts to my build but when i use tempest i loose about 20% of my damage regardless which line i skip (+ utilites like speed, control or defence depending of the forfit line) and the aura boons and overload seem not able to compensate that.

If anet changes shouts to something else that would be great. I personally don’t like the idea for having more classes to have shouts in their utilities because it may sound more work efficient for devs rather than having a new animation or/and skill. Elementalist has cantrip utilities that can be casted in an instant-¼. I so like the idea that it’s instant but I do love to see if there is a faint chance of having additional conjuncture weapons for elementalist. There’s not much love using the earth shield, hammer and flame axes comparing to fgs and ice bows. Maybe have 1 of the conjuncture (maybe arcane attunement) pure support and boon amplifier but please no warhorn conjuction. An instrument from the gem store used as conjunction would be fantastic for support.

Tempest is in a sad state when the only things that makes me want to take anything from it is the auras from (not even all the) shouts. With Auras on Signets gone we have not a single utility skill that gives any aura for a possible auramancer build.

But for an auramancer build to function you need earth and/or arcane for the prot (on aura) and then you’ll want water for aura share or air/fire for more auras. Leaving basically no space for the extremely underwhelming tempest trait tree (seriously no 20% CDR on shout?!)

P.S. Why doesn’t Eye of the Storm give Shocking Aura? Because it would make too much sense for the stunbreak shout to give you the anti-melee aura? Rebound should give you the aura corresponding to your attunement when cast at least.

As a Mesmer main, soon to be Chronomancer main, I find it highly insulting that the Tempest elite pretty much dabbles on the Borderline of Chronomancer time manipulation.

I saw a comment over on WoodenPotatoes’ tempest recap that I thought was insightful:

GruntSquad92 1 day ago (edited)
sounds to me like this is their modern take on the dual profession system:

primary elementalist + mesmer = tempest
primary necromancer + warrior = reaper
primary guardian + ranger = dragonhunter
primary ranger + elementalist = druid
primary mesmer …. + revenant (???) = chronomancer (..?…?!)

There was some follow-up discussion about specifics, but I thought the overall concept was rather insightful. Taken this way, the design of the tempest makes a bit more sense if you look at it from the standpoint of “take an elementalist and add some mesmer elements to it”.

Tempest is clearly Ele+Guardian. They even referenced Guardian many times duting the stream and on twitter.

And Chronomancer is basically Mesmer+Mesmer, lol.
