I’m doing training for 3 weeks and will be unable to play the game while away. So on my time off I’ve been trying to figure out a pvp/wvw build for a tankiesh build. I like the earth attunement and never really got around to making a build focused on just that.

I know that most functional builds do depend on element swapping, but I like the thought of just sticking to one element and being a master of it. So, I went with earth for its natural tankiness built in to it, and then would follow it up with bleed damage. I would use a focus instead of the warhorn while leveling to 80. Then switch to warhorn once I am level 80.

I’ll post the build link below, so please feel free to check it out and give me any ideas or criticisms on this build. I haven’t been able to actually live test this build at all so I have no idea how it will actually function in game.

I know the theorycrafting itch all too well

I’m not sure where to start on your build though. It’s pretty lackluster in a number of areas I’m afraid. Most noticeably lack of cleanse. You also do a few ‘thematic’ picks, that hurt the build by being underpowered.

For example, rune of the undead, strength of stone and serrated stones are all three pretty undertuned. You’ll be better off replacing them in almost every case.

Your sustain will also be the absolute bare minimum you can get on ele. With an untraited glyph as the only source of healing.

A tanky condi build will not really be possible in sPvP in a week. Mercenary’s is the best you can do. WvW is another story…

anyway, your proposed build is extremely weak to conditions

I theorycraft a lot, but I also like to jump in quickplay to test this build even knowing that higher level gameplay has a different behaviour.

Most of the stuff for theory craft is to have fun, think outside the box while exploring different playstyles and who knows, discover something useful.

Kinda see what you are trying to do here. You are trying to be a bunker (currently only for power builds) while slowly dealing damage trough conditions. I tried this before but noticed that single/slow condition appliers (fire/burning) are not very effective on a condition prevalent meta cause everyone already figured out ways to deal with them efficiently…. still I see the focuss is not damage dealing but more cc and sustain.

What they say about condition clearance is true, and I also tried to address conditions in the past with evasive arcana, but the rate it removes condis is slow and has a biiig aftercast on top of it. (you have to finish the roll, then the healing comes after like a whole second for a not impressive 1 condi removed and meh heal)… so even while you can do this often is not good as the only repeatable way to deal with condis. To address this I would recomend few tweaks (without removing the nice stone hearth theme to deal with power builds) .. the tweak is using rune of the trooper for more sturdiness while providing free removals as you play (get flash freeze over arcane shield?) that alone is not enough and unsignificant againist condi bombs, so I would use ether renewal on healing spot instead, can be used rather often and clears condis quite well.

If you still want to deal damage “passively” while defending give lightning rod a chance, you’ll see it combines quite well with the earth shield but a change of amulet is in order.

yeah I’d change up the traits to add condition removal (arcane → water), and swap to an amulet with vitality (there’s only one amulet with vit and condi though….)

possibly swap to rune of the soldier for even more condition removal. stone heart and loads of protection takes care of power damage pretty well
