Thief or Ele?
If you want to roam solo in wvw, pick thief. If you want to roll as part of a group, pick ele.
Ele is trash in pvp right now, but in dungeons and wvw groups they do more than a thief because you can support your team. Also, in fractals, eles are great (esp if you don’t have a guard/mesmer) b/c they have some excellent projectile blocks/reflects.
Theif is best alone, although they can do some great things with shadow refuge for group resses. Venom sharing was also decent before for dungeons, and got a buff in the last patch.
I laughed so hard.
The party utility for Thieves is mostly found in spammable blast finishers for Might stacks, and Shadow Refuge for an emergency res or moving the group past trash mobs.
Not to say that those can’t be valuable, but Eles can offer a variety of group buffs and combo fields, and can bring along conjures (which are enormously helpful in certain dungeon paths). I think they’re just generally more helpful.
By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!
Not only did they steal my puppy, but he loves them more than me.
we may consider whether or not there is an incarnation of [ele] that would be viable
but balanced. For now, we do not expect it to see serious use.” – ANet
If you really want to get into a class in order to master it, play an elementalist. A thief is also fun to play, but I couldn’t play it as a main class. The gameplay is just too superficial. For example, if I play an elementalist in pvp I use almost all of my 20 weapon skills.
When playing my thief (stealth roamer), I mainly use shortbow 5 to get from A to B and in combat i switch to dagger/pistol, go stealth and repeat 1 -> 5 -> 2 -> 1 -> 5 -> 2… which again, it’s fun to play if you do 7k Crits, but in long term regards it’s not very challenging so it gets boring after a while.
