Update:currently i’m seeing 9k power dmg in a single strike from a crit. not impressed by this as I’ve played 25k cnd tick builds before and cnd dmg isn’t soaked by toughness and power damage is. so I need at least 11-14k individual damage per strike.

9k crits on what? Fireball? That is pretty solid. You talk about cnd, but that has to be in melee range and be set up.

9k AA fireballs is really good… You want 14k from 1200 range?? lol man… come on.

elementalist high DPS doesn’t really come from single target spikes… but more from dropping meteor shower and lava font into the middle of a zerg, and hitting multiple targets with each hit. if you want best single target damage for WvW… ele is NOT it. ele is AoE king, though… or at least, that’s what the internet would have me believe.

don’t expect single hits too much over 9k, even with 25 stacks of might and target suffering 25 stacks vulnerability, in full zerk gear, fully buffed by revs, druids, warriors, boosters and food… (yeah i didn’t mention all the ways you can be buffed in a party of 5, i got bored…)

Pretty much. High damage is like being able to crit over 5k from a meteor shower these days. You might hit 9k in full zerker, 25 might stacks and lots of damage modifiers on a light armor class.

As staff backline, main problem you WILL get is not how much damage you can really put out but how much of it you can take from retal. I can run full zerk with scholar runes but once you start hitting 3-5 people with retaliation prepare to melt like butter. This fact made me drop running dps backline to a more hybrid of damage/support with full cele.

I always wonder what high damage you are talking about ???
The only intresting thing is what you can do as average DPS against a competent player …. When i fight another ele a lava font usually don´t hit me and he can´t pin me with his static field.
For might: I do it using durability rune now playing scepter/focus and i did trait tempestious aria for more might. I currently play earth/arcane/tempest.
If you run solo backline with staff shure stack might. I did a PvE/WvW build for staff stacking might for easy to use base ele but tempest might fit better.

Some allround “Boonmaster” staff. Not damage maximized but seems quite nice -)

Fire base ele for beginners :-). cheap to get equipement. Easy to use build but with the drawback of low protection uptime.

I did post a boon build and trait arcane not air.
If you take air + tempest i would go Air: 1/3/3
And then use all shouts + lighing flash.

If you like to go tempest for Overloads: tempest:3/2/3 then you can go for glyphs in air with 3/1/1 . But shouts are usually better.
