To all my fellow D/D ele players!!!
I guess i have a brother in arms now! I completely agree with you.
The bunker build will be fine after the patch. They just nerf some parts of it. Here is the real problem imo:
The patch will hit all the other builds even harder (yes, the ones which are not viable in the first place) without any compensation. What makes it even worse is the fact that Anet knows about the ele only having one viable build. They mentioned it 2 months ago, 1 month ago and kinda in this SotG as well.
Since release there hasn’t been a single attempt to change this situation and that is what makes it so frustrating.
I personally don’t care about the bunker build. I stopped using it in February because it was boring to use it for months. The nerf to all the other builds though, that is something I do care about and that is why I am pretty disappointed.
Things might be sane again in a couple months when they try to rebalance, but this patch was meant to completely excise the d/d bunker from sPvP which made it boring. They are hoping that without the d/d the scene will be more even and people will want to play sPvP. Then they will gradually buff us back up to being par. However, I think D/F or S/F is going to be an even better survival bunker, so expect more nerfs next time to get to the place where ele is a dead profession before it can be brought back.
What ever the case may be I don’t believe that nerfing the “only” build that elementalists have is smart. I say a simple change here and there in the traits would do the trick. I really hope everything turns out well, because elementalist is why I purchased gw2 and why I kept playing gw2.
Do I really have to be the one to say it? Ok, this is going to be a kitten storm if they leave it all in. These threads will go to QQ very fast. I think so many of us have been around mmos long enough to know that these optimistic “its no so bad” threads pop up right before the nerf. The nerf hits and they are drowned in the QQ.
You have to remember WvW is PvP which means more players are likely going to mass exodus the class. If there is a better option available they will likely take it.
The other thing is when they see the 40 second recharge while running around Orr rage will ensue lol. Questions like,“Why should RtL even be touched in PvE? I don’t even WvW!” will pop up. The QQ from this is going to be E P I C. I am not looking forward to it but that is the truth.
Think about what is really happening here. You take the most popular skill from one of the most popular weapons and you increase the cooldown by 33%. 2 months later you increase it by 100% and reduce the range by 20%. All the other skills like it remain unchanged. We all know what is happening here.
What do you really think is about to happen?
It’s been a long weekend figured I would have fun with this one.

Here’s how it will go… bunkers will remain. Non-bunkers will go back to bunker. Staff will still get laughed at, S/D will still be bunkering, /F will still be laughed at. So all things considered, Eles as a whole got nerfed. Grats!
I’m not trying to push one theory of whats going to happen or what they should do (even though I did point out what I think they should do :P). I mainly want the forum spam to stop. I understand this is a very sensitive subject matter. But maybe this is just a trial and error kind of thing where a-net wants to see how we react to certain changes. (This was stated in the SOTG video). So with that in mind like I said before just give it a real try and post results. I’m interested in seeing some game-play from awesome players on YouTube with it as well! What ever the case may be GW2 is still a great game, and all I want is to see it prosper.
Mistform and RTL change if applied to WWW will make me quit WWW
if applied to PvE will made me quit GW2
Unless no balancing buff will be applied.
I already changed main to mesmer but i want to play an alt to fight boredom….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
I have already switched my main to warrior even before the last month patch. Eles have always been called OP and etc.
So far the only viable build is bunker due to more bang for buck as compared to glassy build. You only get glassy but not so cannon :p

i wrote a suggestion (buff to glyph builds, tone down cantrip builds), feel free to comment or suggest a change

Nerfing D/D bunker isnt bad. The way it is done is bad.
*The other thing is when they see the 40 second recharge while running around Orr rage will ensue lol. Questions like,“Why should RtL even be touched in PvE? I don’t even WvW!” will pop up.
First thing I thought was: “Thank god I am done Orr, already!!” mobility is must if you don’t want to be swarmed or have to fight your way inch-by-inch through the map. I will save the rest of my map completion for a couple months after ele as a class dies and they are willing to reinject some mobility to make it par.
I seriously think these nerfs were a panic-button to fix their favored game-type of pvp, where holding points matters a ton. Very few play this game mode, supposedly, because the meta of strong bunkers made it very boring. In order to keep it from dying, they decided to take the overwhelming force approach and ground the profession hoping that a more balanced meta develops. However, if its not the ele, there will always be a top-dog bunker that will reign in the leader-boards b/c of the game-type. It promotes being able to sit in one place and sustain.
I guess in a couple of months when the “rebalance” we might see some buffs that could make playing ele fun again (i.e. mobile). Either that, or they will nerf again b/c the bunkers adapted by going deeper into turtle and unleash the power of the focus (which is very good for bunkering, even though it lacks the CC). I also fear they are going to nerf the heck out of ele water mobility as well. We are currently top-dog there (between water 5+ camera-flip water 3+air 3+signet of air, with a stealth kicker through air-5+arcane). Eles are only supposed to be middle of the road at any given capability at their skill-cap. In fact, given that, they should probably nerf our healing too. We heal at #1 or 2, so it probably makes sense that should be toned down as well.
