Tornado Or Druid ?
In the spirit of jeopardy:
“Two ways to get your elementalist killed immediately?”
Sry, in seriousness, I’ve tried both and without the skill bar your elementalist typically has with active defenses to avoid dying, plus being made a bigger target, you’ve invited a quick death.
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
Out of those choices, I’d pick “Empty Slot”. Tornado is incredibly weak; the only reason to buy it is to get Whirlpool which is Elementalist’s best (i.e. only) underwater Elite.
On the other hand, the Druid can’t be worse than Avatar of Melandru, can it?
Now that I look at it, I see that Summon Druid is a 30-point racial skill. I wouldn’t spend 30 skill points that way. I’d prefer to buy 50 Crystals and delete them.
I’d go for tornado solely for underwater use. DO NOT USE TORNADO ON LAND-it’s pathetic. As far as elites go, you’re best off sticking with the glyph or greatsword.
I disagree with the Tornado haters. In general PvE, it is kinda bad. It’s has pitiful solo damage, and it’s knockback only makes groups annoyed (generally.)
It is, however, very good in some situations. Some dungeons where you’re swarmed by Trash Mobs (CoF Path 2, AC Path 1), it can come in handy for the AoE Blind and Knockback for keeping pressure off teammates for a few seconds.
In WvWvW, it’s absolutely amazing. When I run with my guild, we have two Elementalists always ready with Tornado to pop. The mass knockback and additional health you gain makes you tankier and can be absolutely instrumental in spearheading through a large enemy zerg in a narrow chokepoint. Seriously, when there’s ~50 or so people standing around and you can Lightning Flash in with Tornado, you’re going to seriously disrupt the zerg’s DPS and coordination, and a single Elementalist can be a game changer in breaking a siege.
Tornado is also awesome for kittening up a zerg you catch in the water.

Nado only effects 5 targets max and you have to be on top of the player to even get the KD. And of course one SINGLE immobilize = insta gib. Guessing people who use it to good effect are infact just fluking out with culling since enemy can’t even see you for a bit.
Honestly, I gave it a fair shot. I tried to use it for many months in PvP and PvE. Now I don’t put it on the bar no more since stability canceling got removed. That was the only thing it was really good for.
It’s only good in water now; other wise it’s pretty crummy imo.

Every time i’ve seen an ele tornado they get melted down in seconds, achieving nothing. It’s a giant “kill it” sign. You’re far better off cycling your support, aoe and cc.
Tornado will continue to not be worth a kitten until the damage is unnerfed or it can reflect projectiles.
I’d still rather have another regular utility slot.
