So, am i the only one complaining that tornado is a death sentence if you happen to get confusion? Even if it attacks only once every 2-3 seconds, you keep getting confusion damage at a terrific rate.
Yesterday (in WvW) i was using the tornado when a confusion-build mesmer targeted me. Long story short: 8+ stacks of confusion, kittenload of 2500+ confusion damages, instant death. I personally like the tornado (even if it’s pretty slow and kitable), but i hate having to pray “don’t get confusion, don’t get confusion, don’t get confusion” every time i cast it
Tornado is pretty much terrible no matter what, so yeah.
It would be nice if they fixed all the stupid things in regards to Confusion – traited dodge rolls, as well.
Confusion is the new cool in WvW. It is very strong and damage from almost anything. Like Intigo says even traited dodges and heals etc! Its a zerg breaker on its own right now
In spvp they nerved confusion damage with 50%, there might be a reasonfor that, confusion is verysituational, only works miracles for highspeed attacks
with thing as they are (skill set for pvp and for pve-wvw) confusion will not be nerfed… this because mob in pve has a much slower attack rating (most have just do 1 skill every 2 second or slower)… so if u nerf it for WvW (where player has an avarage of 3 skill every 2 second) it will become useless in PvE…
the only way to have a balance for confusion (and many other skill) is to have a different skill set rules for PvE and WvW… just like they have it for sPvP… unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be in the mind of devs… so the WvW player or the pve player will have to take the short shaft… and atm it seem that WvW player are the one that are going to take the short staff for every balance issue ^^’
PS: if u use tornado u will probably find your self in the condition to have to drop it halfway… this aside from confusion due to your inability to cleanse, heal disengage… when I use it (and I use it mostly to proc wirl finisher out of my own water field to heal allies) I just stay in tornado for 5 second or less… using it for a more extended period usually lead to death… or become usless because we’r already winning the fight and there is not enough opponent in the area of it’s skill so it’ just better to revert to the normal weapon skill set…

2 things confusion needs to be pegged down a bit in mesmers and the tornado needs fixing theres reports it even causes instant revives on Eles, now for the confusion damage you take 2 hits per second 1 for the 1-3 key discharge and another for the passive Launch effect.

I have an Engineer build that revolve around using Elixir X as much as possible, and when I get tornado and receive some confusion, I know I will be death soon.

easy for example lets assume you get 8 confusion stacked up and use tornado and the opponent has high condi damage boosting each Confusion tick’s damage everytime you use a skill even if its at nothing or healing one you ll lose up to 3k+ hp per tick wich in this case would be 6k per second since tornado procs 2 skills over time.
I’m pretty sure that changing attunement also gits hit by confusion (might be if you have the spell on change attunement, generally the 15 trait one, not 100% sure). I’m sure other classes don’t take confusion damage when they change weapons.
my best advice is Disable Auto-Attack from your skill sets .
Another reason why Tornado is a pretty trash Elite. Epic suicide elite.
The use of confusion is very situational. And its normally just a nice addition to shatters… Mesmers are super happy when they come across an ele in tornado form… or a dagger storm thief.. These are the few options where a mesmer can slap confusion on and actually have it do something… Every other time it gets cleansed to fast or it requires ALOT of timing… a mesmer that can maintain over 8 stacks of confusion is a very skilled player… Don’t hate them for being able to use a skill to their advantage. I love ele’s you guys are great. But this is where a mesmer actually can bring you down quick.

Because tornado causes damage with just (doing nothing) it is considered an attack the entire time. So by just being in the form you are casting spells no matter what. So it is essentially a bunch of tiny attacks because the damage is constant over time instead of stacking then ending like other channeled skills. There was a thread about this a couple months ago in the suggestions forum and it was closed. I am not gonna say that it isn’t working as intended because confusion is supposed to do damage upon skill use and every second you are in tornado form counts as skill uses…

They do. :P When you have confusion on you pressing any button outside of movement causes you to take damage.

Confusion is meant to cause damage to the person that has confusion on them when they use a skill… If they are doing something that is constantly doing damage like tornado/daggerstorm and I think a necro plague form it will constantly tick because it is considered constant skill use.

Tornado is such a powerful skill, even its own caster dies. OP elite. Nerf please. :O

i always die faster with if i use tornado somehow.
Just remove the bar swap and keep the kb it causes and u got a fixed skill.
Hahaha omg, I was trying a confusion/retaliation centric build in hot join, stacked it on an ele, then I saw a tornado spitting out hot pink numbers everywhere. They died within 5 seconds or so. Hysterical. But hey, cast mist form right after you die and you might live anyway so there! We are even!
I’d rather it just summon a bunch of smaller tornadoes around me than do the transformation.
Only times worth using:
Standing on a small ledge, and fail at knocking people off of it anyway, because the whirl knocks people random directions.
And to flip it on and off as a break stun. It takes too long most times to bother with. Even racials are better.
It’s excellent for WvW as a zerg pushback, especially along narrow areas like bridges. I love kicking it off and watching people fly off the bridge as they try and run backwards.
That’s about all I ever use it for though.
