Which gear set should I be looking to get?
I thought power toughness vit gear was appropriate for most ele’s but there is none at all on TP.
I am also aware there are about 20 different sets with these stats but after hours of searching im more confused than when I started.

Can someone please link me a decent exotic armor/wep set and tell me where pieces are from and what they cost. I use D/D any my build is 10/0/10/30/20

PVT exotic armor comes from Dungeon Vendors (AC and HotW, at least), Vigil (Order) Armorer, or WvW tokens (it costs an obscene number of tokens).

It is not craftable and does not drop, so it isn’t available on the TP.

Get the Karma Sets.

You also can get PVT gear for karma — 42K each! — after some of the big event chains. I got two pieces of PVT armor after Arah, none after Melandru, making those the only two pieces I have.

But I think we probably all should be running AC explorable, for the Monk’s runes as well as for the armor.

I sort of stumbled into my exotics because I just happened to have an elementalist with 400 in tailoring. The recipes that unlock are kind of a give-away of how to make them.

After making mine then transmuting them into some of the HotW pieces, I’m sort of stumbling around Orr looking for these karma vendors. Since you have to finish an event to free the area, you need people to help and it seems everyone is busy with the new events so no karma set for me (I’m actually looking for a piece for another character).

I say, if you have the $$$ to outright buy exotic stuff, you have the $$$ to level a craft and make them, but to me all this stuff is just obscenely expensive…I think I ended up spending over 15g on exotic jewelry and it’s probably not even the best stuff.

That. Farm Karma in Cursed but periodically look at the map to see if the Cathedrals in Malchor’s or Straights are contested. Once they open up, jump right over and buy what you can. Been waiting a week and managed to get lucky right before logging out and was able to spend 126k Karma in 2 minutes

Just know exactly what you want before jumping off because you don’t want to dally at some of the points. Arah, Dwayna, Melandru and Balthazar seem to be ok for awhile before the event resets. But Lyssa is a temple that constantly gets swarmed by Risen even after you take control of it. I don’t know about nor Grenth though, since I’ve never been on a successful run there.

In my personal experience, Balthazar requires the most zone-wide coordination to happen, and Grenth is the hardest once to get to if you die and aren’t rez’d during the run. This makes these both rare unlocks. I personally love the Balth event design and spent a lot of time in Straights. I like the Lyssa event too, but you can’t let Wren fall. For Karma farming I haven’t found better than Cursed, even after they dialed back Plinx’s respawn rate.

I recommend getting your gear from multiple sources. Atleast if you want to avoid farming same thing. Altho if you really care about looks, then you want to get the dungeon sets. Check the vendors at south LA to know what dungeon to farm.

How I did it as WvWvW focused player after dinging 80.
I bought exotic staff from auction (weapon is your biggest upgrade), cleric as i was heavy support. Knight is good. Carrion is good for pve.
I liked the looks of Chitadel of Flame dungeon set so I did few runs to get 2 items from there.
I bought Invader rings, earrings, amulet, all the bling from wvwvwvw for badges (exotics). And eventually weapons invader weapons.
I bought 4 pieces of Karma PTV from the zones, I dont think you can get all pieces for Light with karma.
And then last 2 pieces that I couldnt get with Karma i crafted with tailoring.

And using Ruby orbs and Exquisite Ruby Jewels for cost effective critical damage bonus. orbs/crests are higher overall stats (often) and way cheaper than using rune sets. And they are not tailored to one purpose, so I like using them, more stats, more specs. You can roll Soldier crests for more survivability even.

This is very cost effective way for hight survivability and good damage. Better if you roll 20+ air tho.

Ofc now I have more sets, like crafted Berserker set for nuking in the new dungeon and sometimes for wvwvw. Full crafted cleric set for when EA was good, healing.
Carrion set for some solo condition based roaming pvp, fine dungeon too. All weapons I use tho are Invader, and healing staff.

But it all started by getting the general good for everything set, PTV. Which I use mainly, sometimes switching few pieces of berserker on.

I have 4 armor sets and 3 Jewel sets.
Have 9 daggers, 2 scepters, 2 staves.

I change my traits a lot. However, with most builds, the change in jewelry and armor changes the way I can run. Just pick what you want to pick and focus what you want to focus on….

5/6 power/toughness/vitality pieces are from the Arah karma vendors.

The only piece of armor that isn’t available in Orr, with those stats, is pants.

If you just do dailies and monthlies you’ll get plenty of karma (add in some events and WvW if you want). I got a full set of karma exotics, with pants from WvW badges, and I don’t “farm” karma, I just play whatever I feel like. I’m sitting on another 200k or so karma which I don’t really have a use for at the moment. Eventually I’ll run some dungeons and get a set of daggers and maybe a scepter with those stats too, for now I use Knights/Valkyries and they work fine.

I run a condition based S/F build. Not sure PTV is what I need. Currently running Cleric + Carrion mixed.

Cheapest/Fastest way to get exotic pow/vit/tough gear is AC explorable. Using karma to buy exotic gear is a waste imo unless you really like the look. You can craft (similar) gear but that typically requires a large investment (around 5g) to max out the profession.

My favorite set is Cleric’s (which is crafted / on TP), however it is quite expensive to buy an entire set with gold. Even crafting it yourself, the materials often cost more than the final product. Also, I hear having a full magic find set is very important for farming (apparently you’ll make gold more than twice as quickly with a full set and food buff).

However, I’m curious what everyone’s opinion is about different healing sets. For a standard D/D Ele running 0 10 0 30 30 traits, would you go with Cleric’s (Healing Toughness Power), one of the Dungeon/Karma sets (Precision Vitality Healing), or possibly a mix between one of those and some Power Toughness Vitality gear?

PVT (Power, Vitality, Toughness) Armor.
Clerics Jewellery set (Rings, ears & Amulet)
for back item anything (maybe even precision/Condition stats on back item, I have the Mad Kings Back item atm, I enjoy the Light source from it >_>)

Best way is dungeons, but if you are like me and getting 4fps in dungeons (yeah, Yeah, waiting for my new gfx card to come in….currently running a Geforce 6100 and upgrading to a Asus amd 6670 >_>) then Karma merchants is the way to go (Grenth Temple in Cursed Shore does a few nice PVT Gear) and Karma is Easily farmed if you have spare time doing Events & Completing your Dailies, even after spending 42k Karma per piece it really is Easy to farm by doing various things IMO.

ofc, for me, I have sort have left it too late to get my gear atm as Cursed Shore is empty due to “The Lost Shores” Event…was hoping to get my gear from it sometime this week, but happy on waiting atm :P
