Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
I rarely play anymore, I can’t seem to get past the character selection screen before I tell myself to just log off. But whatever, on topic now:
a) Mist form wasn’t exclusive to D/D 0/10/0/30/30 etc
b) Same thing about RtL, this is what gets me though… not only the CD was nerfed, but also the range! Talk about going overboard.
Only the cleansing water trait nerf directly hits that build, it was something that I proposed back then and I’m glad that they finally did it, but obviously they could not just stop there.
This is one of those mass nerfs, where they, instead of being cautious and slow on their approach, just take the easy way out and go wild, stacking nerfs to the point of making things useless. Anet did a great job.
Soo… conclusions:
1. Glass dps D/D ele is DEAD, for good. You cannot afford to be squishy because you don’t have mobility anymore, even a glass d/d necro would be more viable. The mist form destruction also hurts.
2. D/D bunker was severely hit, they’ll manage though. Their survivability in hand-to-hand combat is still unparalleled (despite the signet nerf)
3. Staff ele is still bad for pvp, but at least it’s now better than glass d/d.
4. D/F is gonna be the most used combo from now on.
I still can’t believe ANet gave in to the complaints and downright destroyed RtL, I think it would have been wise to reduce its range for now to see how it performs, and then take further action after carefully analyzing everything. But nope, they went for both things at once. A skill receiving a nerf of such caliber (twice the cooldown when used to escape or to move from X to Y) is, simply put, a very, very poor decision balance-wise.
Well, see you in another month when ANet feels like giving out compensation buffs to those poor souls that enjoyed playing glass d/d.
I’ve been playing glass d/d ele since around launch and this nerf is making me depressed and sick to my stomach. I feel like i’m going to have to re-roll.
Real Elem plays bunker elem.
It’s just the way it is, and how it’s always gonna be.
True story.
you’re pretty pathetic if you think your class is dead just because they put it in it’s place. dumb bunker builds healing right through my damage and getting away from what should be kills is ridiculous. and then to top off the cherry on the kitten pie, they can burst me down just as fast? you deserve to be nerfed.
adapt, and learn to play, rather than hopping on a bandwagon just because it’s stupid strong.
The biggest annoyance with the RTL change (the only change I care about) is that player skills can force the 40s cooldown. Evade, blind and Aegis all give the increased cooldown even though you either actually hit (aegis/immunity) or should have hit (evade/blind). At the very least immunity/aegis should count as hits since I’m actually hitting your character, you’re just negating the damage. The current implementation forces us to save RTL for escapes since a 40s cooldown outside our control is not viable as a charge.

If a bunker ele can “burst” you down you seriously deserve to die. Against decent players it’s rather poke until you die (and that can take a long time unless you never dodge, don’t move and don’t heal).
dumb bunker builds healing right through my damage and getting away from what should be kills is ridiculous. and then to top off the cherry on the kitten pie, they can burst me down just as fast? you deserve to be nerfed.
These are two different builds. The first can’t kill, the second can’t survive.
Its like a hyperbole tornado by all the pro-nerfers tonight.

That’s all I needed to read! I hope these new updates encourage you to log in and play more

…You do realize he’s talking about glass eles right? You know the eles you never hear about? The nerf didn’t just tone down the bunker build it down right nerfed the elementalist class as a whole.
People feel inclined to go bunker in the first place to survive. This patch was a nerf to the ele of all forms and all aspects. (Excluding Signets)
If anything you may see more eles go bunker because dps eles can no longer zip in and out of harm. Instead they have to face tank since ele has no “real” class bound defensive or even offensive mechanic while being the light armor low dps guy (you have to trait for water heals and boon procs).
The attunements by themselves are nothing without their respectable trait lines. I don’t even want to mention the constriction of the arcane line.
Class mechanics
Necro Deathshroud -Defense/Offense
Thief Stealth -Defense/Offense (backstab)
Mesmer Shatters -Offense/Defense
Warrior Burst -Offense
Ranger Pets -Offense/Defense
Engineer Toolbelt -Utility/Offense/Defense
Guardian Virtues -Offense/ Defense (More inclined)
Elementalist Attunements -Spec for utility

Pretty sure there’s plenty of hyperbole from the anti-nerfers, too.

I second this stance, although I do feel that I should point out that engineers don’t really get anything out of their class mechanic without specialization either; engis just aren’t quite as dependent upon their build because they have decent base health, armor, and attack power.
I truly feel sorry for any profession that gets nerfed & always discourage others from petitioning other professions to be nerfed. People need to:
Nerfing any profession often leads to a chain reaction where those who are nerfed either complain about every other profession or all roll onto a profession they perceive has an advantage. Both actions lead to nerfing every profession in vain attempts to create a balance that was thrown off once the first nerf occurred.
I honestly enjoyed when each profession had a specific advantage over the others, if the player learned how to use it. Now we’re faced with so many of the same profession, using the exact same rotation, because they’ve been nerfed so much, it’s all they have left. It’s less & less fun to know just by the profession, exactly which moves they will use—in order. The surprise & intensity are gone.
If these nerfs continue as they have been, soon the PvP aspect of GW2 & all combat will become too bland to enjoy. When people stop enjoying a MMO, they leave. Let’s get GW2 at least to its first year.

Problem I’m seeing is that the nerfs in this game can seem so dramatic. I don’t feel confident that I could play something new if it’s one nerf away from having the fun drained out of it and my time wasted. Especially given the time one can spend on soulbound vanities in this game.
I used to get zerged because I was a commander, but now it’s because I can’t heal or get away from anything.
All I see in WvW now: Mesmer, thief, guardian.
Everything else occupies roughly 10% of the population.
Edit. Also, do not carry over pvp stuff into pve. Because pve is all we can do now if we still want to play this trash.
(edited by katniss.6735)
I never got a commander badge because I felt too squishy as a staff ele, then after 2 months of playing I realized that I could heal while in mist form (yeah it took that long). For me that was a discovery, I started to move forward in zerg battles instead of playing only defensive and nuking from behind.
I could somehow foresee myself as a possible commander if I maximized my vitality and toughness stats, but now I realize it will only make me endure 1 or 2 more hits. since I would have no way to evade anyone.
They might as well sell commander badges only to guardians, warrior and thieves (thieve can be really great commanders). A commander that takes 5 seconds to cast a meteorshower in front of a zerg and dies after 5 hits is useless besides for what he or she writes in the chat box.
They just killed build variety and nerfed less used specs more than the bunker specs, the complete opposite of what they were saying they wanted to do.

Did you even read? I’m not a fotm bunker player.
The thing about ANet balancing, is that they don’t hesitate when it comes to nerfing a class down, even if the only imbalanced aspect from said class is ONE very specific build or gimmick.
They instead, nerf stuff that affects the class as a whole, every single build and its variables, to make that class weaker in every way.
The result? Problematic build is now weaker, and the other builds are useless. This kind of nerfing has been going on for the last 4 months or so. Glass d/d can’t take it anymore, they made it worthless. Bunker might be balanced now, but at what cost? I’m sure that there could have been other way around…
Anyway, dat balance man. I feel like I could have done a better job, being 100% honest here.
People need to:
- Learn their profession & its workarounds against others. If I can do it, so can you.
There is no workaround for anti-boon skills on elementalists. Regardless of what build you pick, it’ll revolve around boons in one form or another. Which mean that the ‘nagging’ we do as you’ve called it, is actually valid. Especially since the main perpatrator, D/D, depends on boons the least of all ele builds.

Yes there is. I learned mine, so can you. I learned my workarounds against every profession; including mine. Moreover GW2 is my first MMO. My husband taught me beginner’s PvP—me who never played anything outside a console & controller or dance pad, so if a newb like me can learn, no one really has an excuse.
I don’t want to seem mean, but it is what it is. Learn your profession.

Sounds like you are talking about rangers and not eles, really.
I truly feel sorry for any profession that gets nerfed & always discourage others from petitioning other professions to be nerfed. People need to:
- Stop QQing & nagging devs to nerf other professions, because those nerfs also affects PvE

Just a thing…
Its not fair giving any guilt to players…
The only guilt is by dev…
They decide that PvE deserve a 100.000dmg 100B warrior and immortal guardians but NERF all the rest.
Its selfishness for the e-sport dream (nobody plays pvp) and lazyness to not separate it from PvE/www despite having the chance….
That is all.

The guilt absolutely is with players who are too lazy to take the time & actually learn their profession, so they spam forums & support begging or even demanding nerfs. These kind of player are spoiled. I’ve been playing since Closed Beta & wish Arena Net stood behind their product in GW2 & not nerf profession; because it was way more fair by GW2’s release than it is now.
They decide that PvE deserve a 100.000dmg 100B warrior and immortal guardians but NERF all the rest.
The reason any of the professions were ever nerfed were players. I’m trying to be nice, but that’s the plain & simple truth.

Well, that’s just my point. When GW2 was released—aside from talent glitches with Engineers, each profession was great for every aspect of the game. One’s playing style seemed more important to selecting a profession than anything else. Anymore a lot of lazy players, herd to which ever profession they believe has the best advantage, causing other lazy players to cry to the devs for nerfs.
Spoiled, petty, sheeple brats braying to invisible shepherds because they’re too incompetent to learn & think for themselves.
Sorry, but I just feel this game is being ruined piece by piece by QQers.
>_< Mina
Please stop ending every one of your posts in unfunny memes. I feel like I’m on a tween’s facebook page.
I agree with you Mina. Kudos to you and shame on those who too lazy to learn for the self. They don’t know that they are on their way to destroy GW2 for making it unfun to competitive player. Trying to knock some sense in these people is harder than go to heaven. Anet also is at fault. They decide to listen to those QQers instead of true player. They choose to simply nerf one class down instead of buff all others class to be on equal terms. That seems a lazy work to me. They must know that those QQer is the main factor that destroy the game and the competitive players is the core. The game live or die decided by these competitive players,, not those QQer.

Yeah….except thiefs are still completely viable. They have nothing wrong – high burst, extremely good escape abilities, yeah. Their nerf did nothing – fighting thiefs feels the same as always.
Ele nerf, dumb. ( I play Engineer and Guardian ). My first 80 was a Thief, though, and my last one currently has been an Elementalist. They were kinda background characters.
End of story, Arena Net is trash at balancing. They are loosing players every patch, its hilarious. If it keeps up im sure I will be gone as well with more charge ahead decisions.

Then this still makes the guilt all of Anets, as surely they should play the game from all respectives & see for themselves what is & what isn`t unbalanced, rather then listening to the noobs who are to stupid to bring CC & stun breakers to their builds & then claim that Ele`, Thief etc are too mobile.
Don`t get me wrong though, I do believe they rely more on the forum cries rather then doing things the proper way, which is why classes are getting wrecked out right rather then just concentrating on the underlying problem.
Also, where is this WvWs/sPvP-tPvP/PvE split they mentioned several times during SOTG?….
The idea the devs had about the RTL change was that it’s meant to be a initiation move primarily, hence why the cooldown is the same as it used to be if it lands an attack. The distance ‘nerf’ was more of a distance correction as it was meant to cover 1200m, not 1550 like it was previously. As for the ‘it should reduce the cooldown on block / aegis pop’ idea if any of you guys play as a thief if you attack someone with aegis or is blocking while invis your move doesn’t pop you out of invis since it didn’t really do anything, so it’s the same train of thought for RTL.
I can’t really speak for anything else regarding the changes they made for Elementalists, but RTL just has a different function now. Heck, the way it’s setup is almost similar to Judge’s Intervention to me for Guardians. JI you HAVE to have a target for it to work, otherwise you port in place lol. Makes things very intense when you’re trying to find neutral / ambient mobs to target to port to for escapes / catching up.
