Underwater - Ele vs Veteran Risen Subjugator
Most people do not know how to use their underwater skills, but start at close to max range. You can chain cc enemies with your trident the 4 skill on all attunements is a cc. Use water 3 or earth 5 if he gets into melee range swap use air 3 or water 5 to move away. Get a exotic underwater weapons if you do not have one.

Thanks for the reply!
I went back today and tried taking him out solo again, and was finally able to do it. Part of it was luck, though, as I was able to tackle him before his buddies could respawn (and no adds came wandering by).
I fought another one of these guys in a different spot – he was all by himself and was much easier to defeat.
Ele underwater skills lack quite a bit of punch. I’m used to playing necromancer under water. Power or condition built, necromancers are absolute juggernauts of destruction when under water and have absolutely no problems soloing entire groups of things. When I did that place for the achievement a few months back, I was able to swim in, tank like 5-6 risen at a time (things aggro through the floors), and blow them all up in a matter of seconds with my necromancer. I swear, I would cut off my left pinky if it would convince the devs to give necros the ability to use their under water skills on dry land.
Took my ele there to unlock the water grandmaster yesterday. Whole different story. My ele barely survived against a single veteran when under water. Yes, I am using proper rotations and not camping a single attunement (I took the time to learn each attunement). I also have an exotic trident, full exotic gear, and full ascended trinkets. The place just wrecked me. If I faced two risen, I was guaranteed to go into downstate at least once. Any more than that and I’d just die. Veterans were like mini bosses, and if anything aggroed during a fight with a veteran, it was over. This is contrary to how my necro was just making everything down there her kitten, and quite literally curbstomped the entire ship like it was nothing.

Water 5 against a wall/ while immob or crippled is pretty fun. Earth has a blind, and water 2/air 2+ lightning strike procs are dps gain.
A necro has more natural survivability than a ele and underwater a ele loses some of that. Since we only get a regen instead of a direct heal. Seems a lot of classes instantly become weaker underwater. Lack of gear and knowledge tends to be the reason. Also, Anet stop worrying about balancing underwater combat a long time ago.

Yeah, my healing ability goes way down underwater since I don’t have any water fields to blast. But Earth 5 gives a nice blind field that helps with staying alive while you rack up crazy amounts of Bleeding on foes with Earth 1+2. Swap to Fire occasionally for Boil and to blast it for Might, and then hop into Water for Water 3+4 when you need to withdraw.
Like Kravick says, my Necromancer is an absolute beast underwater. (They’ve only gotten even more powerful now that Wells can be used underwater.) My Mesmer and Warrior also rarely have problems. And Ranger? Well, if you die underwater as a Ranger you’re doing something seriously wrong.
I like underwater content and I went looking for your skill point. Was it the one by the Melandru Statue?
I managed with my wvw fresh air roaming build. It’s not my main and I carry mostly exotics.
Actually… I can’t add much to the thread but my build. Underwater fights take some time to get used to, but I for one think it’s worth it.

Edit: Wait a second, maybe there is something I can add. If the third dimension is taxing, try “walking on the bottom” instead of “hovering” in the water. The Melandru Statue skill point is well suited for that.

I believe that’s the one – in Whisper Bay.
yah underwater most classes need a buff necro is not one of them. i solo’s 10 players in WvW on my necro its horrible what kinda crap you can do to people there
Also, Elementalists can get stealth underwater! But it’s a bit tough to pull off.
