Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Hi, I’m currently using PVT armor with ruby orbs, berserker weapons and berserker/cavalier trinkets. I usually use PVT in WvW but for dungeons I was thinking of using a similar setup but with valkyrie armor instead. The lack of precision isn’t a huge deal since I run with an S/D Lighting Hammer Persisting Flames build that Neko created. I just want a bit more DPS without sacrificing too much survivability.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience using this gear set up for ele and how well it fares.
I have a valk/beryl set, it sits between pvt and berserker. I don’t think its worth the money tbh, I only break it out when the game is laggy and I dont want to get instagibbed in zerk. If you want to move away from pvt though it could be a nice zerker’s training bra.
I’ve been putting a program together that figures out the most effective gear for specific stats and levels of defense, for ele builds I think it tends to recommend a combination of berserker and celestial or berserker and soldier. Unless you massively boost crit rate somehow (like permanent fury plus a couple of +10 crit traits) Valkyrie doesn’t really show up.
yeah, I’ve been using solider armor with zerker weapons/trinkets (one ring is cavalier) and I feel like its fine even though its not maximum DPS, plus its not as fragile. My guildmates say that the HP from valkyrie gear wouldn’t help all that much with little more than base toughness.

I agree with this. In my own personal number crunching I’ve found Berserker/Celestial to have the best step up in survivability over Pure Berserker while maintaining heavy damage. I’d Imagine Knight’s/Berserker would be another step up survivability and Soldier/Berserker to be yet another step up. With each step up in staying power you’ll lose out of on offense obvoiusly.
Some general things to keep in mind are…
-Power actually seems to scale better with overall dps.
-Vitality has a big impact on overall effective health for low base health professions like the ele.
-If you’re going to not use items with extra critical damage, start by replacing the back item, helm, pants, chest, and rings. Do it in that order, this is because of the the ratio of extra crit damage to other secondary item attributes is more favorable to the other items.
-If you have exotics always use ruby mods for your gear, this is because the ratio of +crit damage to secondary attributes on these gear mods is so favorable.
