Viable Builds for tempest Ele roamers in wvw?
The tempest cleric build is a group support/healer. It can´t realy kill but is hard to kill. It makes a small group much stronger.
I run a scepter/focus roaming tempest with fire/earth/tempest that has a condi focus. Basically a hybrid that can whipe a camp quite fast with a fire overload and i perform very well in small fights. Important is that you can play the type and have at least 25% movement speed for roaming. Traveler rune fits ele well here.
(edited by Wolfric.9380)
dd tempest still works. But you will probably need the cheesy rune of durability for that boon duration.
Go for water/arcana/tempest. Use sigil of energy. You will have tons of dodges available which synergies well with evasive arcana. It is very survivable with the amount boons and dodges you have but lacks a bit in the damage department. It will probably work the best if you team up with a revenant or thief.
Personally I’m using Dagger-Focus Earth/Water/Tempest – a.k.a. Cleric Tempest just with the proper WvW equipment focusing more on havoc group and dueling.
You can stack swiftness by blasting Air Overload field, might by blasting few fire fields, removing conditions with shouts or auras if you swam Powerful Aura to Cleansing Water.
You can also swap Focus to Dagger and “Rebound!” to Conjure Fiery Greatsword.
You can ofcourse swap equipment. Just keep in mind that you need minimum 2k Power, 2.4k Armor, 30%+ Crit Chance & 300+ Healing.
I run same build as Dorid’s but in full celestial gear/runes of radiance. It is a real troll build though against good players its stalemate. I find it’s really good in small groups (5 to 10. Above that and switch to dps staff for blobs.
Better to run with a friend who can kill quick since you can sustain.
My disclaimer is I wouldn’t call myself a great player, I go into wvw, kill things, have a bit of fun. I am by no means expert level
Sadly, I think there is no roaming for the elementalist in the current state. I’ll explain why.
We have some good duelist/small scale fights builds; I’m having some success with both S/F fresh air and D/F lightning rod.
The problem is that roaming is not only about good fighting capabilities, it’s also about choosing fights, disengage, run when outnumbered, juke zergs, etc. Elementalist with its competitive sets has less mobility then everything else in the game (unless u waste ur elite with FGS, losing Rebound). Add to this that with the expansion, the overall mobility is increased.
In conclusion, with the current state of the game u can be a decent duelist/fighter but u can’t be a good roamer.
To fix that they should bring offhand dagger back in the meta by de-nerfing RTL and improving defence (water spells maybe).
As a Reaper main WvW roamer, I find it hardest to fight a staff Tempest roamer.
Dagger or Scepter Tempests are comparatively easier.
Staff Tempest Roamer is insane sustain though they don’t have a strong burst. So if you don’t mind slowly grinding your opponents down, Staff Tempest is a very decent choice.
I fought a very good staff tempest roamer in the last fight in this video. I almost lost. Could have lost. Thought I was going to lose in fact.
My favorite fight against a Tempest was still against a D/D tempest though at the 8min and 35sec in this video below. Was fast and brutal and could have gone either way.

Agree i realy like my roaming ele. Yes druid and thiefs move faster but don´t have the power i have. Surprisingly hard to fight S/F ele good in small scale fights 1-3 on each side is best.

You didn’t read what you replied to… Dueling is not roaming, and even if we can be good in 1v1, it doesn’t mean we are good roamers.
Having no mobility, no way to disengage or to engage by surprise, bad chasing (every decent build can run away if he wants to)… These things make roaming hard nowaday.
Elementalist is the best roaming class right now
I’m not saying ele can’t roam decently, but no way Ele in the best roaming class. There are builds which have more killing power and ability to chase runners/get away from a fight.
Infact with that build (water/earth/tempest full cele) if someone that does not completely suck decide to run away…well, they just do.
(edited by atreyu.9624)
u forgot the amount of passivs everyone on other classes seems to enjoy ;o)
on reaper theres no way u can win vs a decent geared scepter ele. he can kite u forever.
I like S/D with Lightning Rod for Roaming. Air, Water, Arcane. Powerbuild with 2,4k Armor 2, 3k Power and a bit Healing Power.
You have good sustain – Teleport, Mistform, Conjure Earthshield and Fgs. Ride the Lightning, Cc, Blinds… you just have to choose your Playground and shouldnt fight in open Terrain. Many great Places at the new Borders to roam and kite there.

Ele is still good enough for Roaming.

I run fiery GS for roaming pretty often so that I have mobility, and I know roaming isn’t always 1v1s. But I win 2v1s pretty easily too.
https://www.twitch.tv/asphyxiaxt/v/60267683
Depends on the players obviously, but I rarely ever die even in a 2v1 situation and still deal plenty enough damage to down people. I wasn’t even really trying in that fight and won lol. Mostly sat on fire so that I could keep burning the mesmer since he didn’t have any clense.

Running away from a fight is losing a fight. I don’t care if they run, just means they lost lol. I win the sustain game and win fights because of it.

I have checked out your build. To be honest, I am very much in doubt.
It looks like your build lacks both condie clear and damage. W/O condie cleanse, one thief + one condie anything will easily destroy you. You are also pretty much full celestial which makes your power kinda low. I don’t see how you will be able to beat a high sustain class like scrapper. You will probably stalemate anyone who is tanky.
(edited by Exciton.8942)
I completely disagree that ele cannot be a good roaming class. Granted, it may not be the best class to roam, however part of roaming is being able to read the map. Many of the mobility issues mentioned could be avoided if you can predict the enemy movements.
is there any room for using cele D/D with air/earth/tempest? Or water is mandatory anyway?
I agree thet ele is not the best in casing or disengaging unless FSG is drawn. This long CD is what sucks most ^^. Yesterday i could run after winning the small fight then drawing FSG and flee from the zerg …
Druid is a top roamer. I did run with a friend yesterday and he was the one catching the targets and i was the one making the fight a clear win.
But there are some small things like sigils and food that make a diffrence.
We did roam during night and i used Ghost pepper poppes as food and precision oil…
You don´t run easily from me then … The ghost pepper procs a chill. You get permachilled from my autoattack when i case you …
Just to throw in my 2 cents this is what i run.

Not sure rune choice is the best, but its worked out well for me. I also run the same build pvp actually too. Engage in air attunment overload to create a nice fighting area, then switch to fire to get some good damage out then to water to heal and cleanse. Your health will bounce all over the place as you heal your abysmal health through their bursts, but its a fun active build. Basic ideas always be casting a skill and dodging/switching attunments when not going for the overload and keep those conditions off you, and never use churning earth =-P
I like this D/D build but yes rune is not realy the best choice.
leadership, scrapper are the two i would prefer. Also a tipp is surging rune.
Druid is a top roamer.
druid roamers are next level bullkitten atm in my opinion.
Comparing skills across classes is lame, but I still think it’s quite funny they are allowed to have a 1200 blink on 15 sec CD, while elementalist RtL was nerfed to 40sec without hitting a target.
Hmm maybe you think of longbow druid? My friends are running condi trappers for roaming ….
Also a tipp is surging rune.
I’ve been running a ‘max’ boon duration build using Rune of Surging and Sigil of Concentration.
I also feel that Ele’s mobility is comparatively down due to other professions having their mobility increased. When solo roaming it can sometimes be a struggle to chase, but in small groups Tempest is beast.
I prefer to play D/D but D/W tends to be more effective.
I like this D/D build but yes rune is not realy the best choice.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try those out! Also, what would you think of rune of the warrior? Maybe rune of durability/dolyak?
durability would be a strong choice. Warrior and dolyak are OK but not as good athe the other suggested. In fact durability is one of the best for a boon share build…. But not so easy to get.

Apparently you haven’t paid attention to the build lol.. Let me lay it out for ya.
Every time I use an aura, I grant regeneration and protection. Every time I grant regeneration, I clear a condition. Now, every overload I use gives me an aura (4 condi clears there), air 3 give aura (makes 5), earth 4 gives aura (makes 6), all 3 of my utility skills give auras (makes 9 condition clears) – and all of them are EASY to put on rotation with low cooldowns. That means that this build has the most condi clense of pretty much anyone lol.
Usually fights with cheesy stealth engineers end in draws because they spend the whole fight running away from me instead of damaging me. You would be surprised at my damage between my raw damage and my burns. With bloodlust stacks I have around 2300 power and my burning does quite a bit of damage as well.
I’ll also happily duel in my guild hall if you don’t believe the hype. Check out my stream in my forum sig.

Okay. If you are taking cleansing water, then it makes way more sense. But the build you are linking takes powerful aura instead. That is what makes me doubt.
But still I don’t like the damage from the build. It can outsustain but don’t have the damage for the killing blow. If only off-hand dagger is slightly better….

Ah ha! I’m sorry, that would be my mistake on my link. I don’t run aura share and haven’t in a long time. Cleansing water was a MUCH better trait to run.
As far as the damage goes, the build isn’t a “one shot” build – I don’t burst people down in 2 seconds generally, that isn’t what this build does. But I also don’t get bursted down quickly because of how I am build.
If you want a fast burst down, run a zerk or marauders warrior and just press gunflame all day. This build is in for the longer fight, it will survive what most classes would be dealing as a “killing blow” and outlast them in a fight which will ultimately win the fights. I don’t do an insane burst, but the air over load is a lot of damage. You would be pretty surprised at the damage output I am sure, but it isn’t a huge burst unless I am using air over load generally.
Usually fights with cheesy stealth engineers end in draws because they spend the whole fight running away from me instead of damaging me.
Because builds with huge sustain, running a stat that was deemed so broken OP it got removed from PvP, aren’t cheesy at all…

I am not questioning your build philosophy of building for high sustain. I myself am also running a high sustain roaming spec with d/d and water/arcana/tempest.
The most three prominent roaming classes right now are thieves/scrappers/druids. It is possible to get them low but it is very hard to deal the killing blow to them because of their stealth/sustain/mobility.
I kinda miss the old air/water/arcana dd ele because I had burst in both fire and air and enemy roamers usually don’t have the insane sustain as they do now. I can easily finish off thieves and mesmers that time.
I think tempest would be much better roaming in a small group, being able to sustain, support and do damage at the same time.
The problem is to catch the roming classes.
There are options to do it.
1.) FSG best one. Flee or catch. When i draw it i am eiter off or get my target. Only the long CD is a pain.
2.) Range. Mainhand dagger is not a good choice to catch.
3.) Use sigils or utilities that slow the oponent. (Flash freeze, Earth signet, focus water chill, criple sigil )
4.) Use food that slows them.
5.) Condi damage
5.) Bring a fast friend with imob. (I play with a druid)
In duels or small fights the problem is not that i loose it´s that my oponent can run away.
I run scepter. So i can fight ranged. I use a torment sigil and keep them in combat.
During night i often run chilli pepper food. This chills my target.
Falsh freeze is very good to get thiefs. Hit it when they cloak. You see the hit position + chill him.
Hmm maybe you think of longbow druid? My friends are running condi trappers for roaming ….
nope, I’ve seen many druid roamers Sword 1h and Staff… they have got it all it seemed: condi clear, good dmg, good sustain, and good mobility.
IM JELLY
Yes indeed they got it … At least i can beat them ;-).
Rangers mostly just try to kite me but ultimately they just end up losing or running away from me. I haven’t even come close to losing to one, they do little to no damage to me. And yes, I am talking about both condi and power ones. They can survive well because of all of their heals, but they just don’t do damage to anyone who knows how to play the game lol.
Thief is only good at roaming because they can run away from anything that they don’t 2 shot lol. Most fights I get in with thieves are that way, they realize they do no damage to me and run away or they get persistent and die for it.
Scrapper is just boring to fight, they can’t kill me but they can do decent damage.
same for my build. Dardevils run and i can´t get them or they try hard and die … I can get most scrappers and druis especially when they use LB. The condi trapper is a bit more dangerous but doable.

Glad to see more Conjure Tempests.
Indeed, Conjure Earth Shield has many hidden comboes (which I will not disclose here) that can add up to a 1500 range gap closer when done right.
For me, it’s Staff, Lightning Rod, Conjure Earth Shield + FGS. Conjures improve the stats when overloading (more thoughness, or more power) and provide a better filler rotation to wait for overloads. First tick of Earth Overload is instant, First tick of Fire Overload is 0.2sec delay; use that to your advantage. If you find the playstyle odd, it’s normal because you’ve never played something like that before. I repeat, you’ll mess up the first 100 hours.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWn0XCNYiFRAGOA8RglHAjYIEE2BuT2L7nVIAcAahA-TJBFAB/XGAgHAgAXAAk2fAA
Yes, your Builds looks really good. Tbh, i never tried Staff Tempest with Conjures. But makes Sense with waiting for the Overloads.
And i just tested Earthshield because i had read some of your Posts about it. Never ever would have assumed it feels so smooth with Lightning Rod.
Rarely playing Spvp these Days. But for roaming im using this right now. (Core Ele again)
Aquamancers Training is great for having almost always Water Trident up, but like more the short Cd on my Lightning Flash. So, makes more Sense with Staff.
Would be great if Conjures becoming an instant summon;). Sometimes messing up when to summon them and getting interrupted.
So, thanks for the Inspiration^^.

Why do I need to keep those in mind, they are irrelevant to the point (and incidentally none other than engy compared, and engy build got removed when they changed the trait lines), you whine about “cheesy stealth engineers” yet seem oblivious to the reality you are playing one of the cheesiest builds the game has ever seen cele ele, that carried bads in PvP for ages and was eventually kicked out of PvP because it was so broken OP you had a team with 4 cele eles (& 1 thief) winning a tourney.
If you want people to fight you rather than thinking I’m not fighting this AIDS and withdrawing, then I suggest you play something less faceroll, less dull to fight and less forgiving.
You don’t seem to realise it, but when roaming in WvW (unlesss you are PPT monkey and are bothered about camps, etc) there is only one “win” condition and that is the other guy dead or downed on the floor, it isn’t PvP where disengaging has a cost like losing a point, or the time wasted contributing nothing to the score and moving on to the next the point, so if people see some dull forgiving build like cele ele, condi perma stealth thief, PU perplexity mes, etc, many simply move off, and if you’ve made a build that has focused on fighting ability, sustain, etc, over quick kills, mobility / being able to chase down, then that is your problem, you are roaming in wvw, not playing 1v1 duelling.

Usually fights with cheesy stealth engineers end in draws because they spend the whole fight running away from me instead of damaging me.
Because builds with huge sustain, running a stat that was deemed so broken OP it got removed from PvP, aren’t cheesy at all…
Keep in mind that it wasn’t just eles that were using celestial and living forever lol. Remember Cele necros, engineers and medi guardians were also a thing in PvP that were pretty strong.

I do plenty of 1v1 duels when I am roaming in WvW lol. Also, most of my time spent in WvW is roaming since I lead a small man group on Blackgate. Feel free to check my stream in my signature.
I’ll also have you know that most of what I run in to in WvW is uber cheese. Condi PU mesmers, Condi reapers, perma stealth thieves, run away druids lol. Most roamers are running the cheesiest stuff they can because we typically end up in out numbered fights. When you’re outnumbered all the time, you need to take advantage of any thing your class will allow you to. For example, my ele can clear conditions like no ones business. Might seem cheesy that I can survive some pretty strong blows AND clear a million conditions in no time, but what choice do I have in a meta of either full zerk/marauders enemies or full condi enemies? Especially being on Blackgate where BOO is on YB running a 50 man blob of condi people lol..

Cele ele in pvp and wvw was different. Sure the wvw build was still strong, but it wasn’t godkitten awful as that in pvp. There was no need to hold points and no need to take a bath in the ele’s kill zone. Atleast it felt different.
Agreed on posts about mobility. Having successes in roaming D/D with variants of air/earth/tempest, earth/water/tempest, or x/arcane/tempest. Chasing down thieves and druids are a pain, and air overload is prone to being kited unless you start casting after a chill/cripple/immob. I’m now curious how the others running D/Wh counter kiting

I generally use firey GS if I REALLY want to catch someone. But really, if I get into a 1v1 with a thief or someone who runs away and end up having a moment where they’re close to me, I hit air 4 knock down, air overload and then “Aftershock!” to immobilize them while I continue DPS in my air over load after-cast. Unless they blink/shadowstep/condi clear and get away, it is usually enough to win a fight.
i’m trying to dial in my staff tempest roaming build and this is what I have so far. the build is built around lightning rod and runes of radiance. i have a ton of hours on old school D/D and staff ele pre-HoT, but have just been playing the easy LB druid since HoT since I couldn’t get used to the Tempest playstyle. Trying to get back into ele now so here’s the build….any suggestions appreciated.
