Elem’s are fine in their own way, I mean if you look out there it’s the only class that actually requires skills & timing to be worth something (compared to the other classes where you can headbang your keyboard and still be useful) so for that I’m thankful A.Net ‘cause otherwise I wouldn’t play the game as all the other classes barely take any skill/timing.

Don’t misunderstand me, I agree with most of you that the elem is kind of weak when you look at the amount of effort it requires to be as effective as any random player playing a fotm build on an unbalanced class but that’s why I like this class on top of that it’s the only class that has a combination of 3 “useless” elites (the fire elem used to be good until they nerfed their dmgs output and let them out there with close to no hp) which none of them works underwater (the dev who made them is a real genius).

Now if you could only fix all the traits that haven’t been working since the first BWE’s + giving us an option to cancel Ride the Lightning mid air so we don’t stay stuck for a few sec while people blast us off it would be nice.

30 Arcane with Evasive Arcana, the trait that gives boon on attunement switch, 33% vigor on crit,
20 Water : 20% cantrip cd & Cleansing Wave
20 earth : 20% reduced cd on earth skills, armor of earth at 50%

Earth signet, mist form, lightning flash, and for your elite either pick the elem or go for tornado if you’re up against mesmer (you can break out of their moa with it and then turn back to your human form by re-hitting the spell)

I’ve honestly tried so many builds. I even went full water/earth with 10 in arcane for the mandatory V trait, went full toughness/vitality/healing power runes and was still getting mowed down with just under 2k toughness.

I cant find any build that works, fires fun and its damage can be ok but then the player decides to attack you and you just die.

I must be missing something here. Video proof of Ele being fine, using a WvW video, against what is most likely a bunch of level 5’s running around in WvW with 1/10th of the damage, survivability, or skills of level 80 characters?

These people just about all died like they were class cannon specs, without the actual damage output you can expect from classes like that built as glass cannons, so I’m guessing they were low level.

Yeah, a level 80 with full traits/unlocks/gear and a solo spec can beat up newbies in WvW, that’s not really saying much. If you were a thief you’d probably have wiped out that whole group chasing you in one dagger storm.

Sorry, but holy crap. Where did you find such a large heap of morons at once? Half of them didn’t manage to damage you (the fact they were uplvld and therefore prolly not close to you in stats didn’t help I guess) and didn’t seem to have any idea what they were doing.

That Warrior just seemed to aimlessly run around and hit his auto attack? Then they decided to go res some dead guy instead of fighting you off first and even though they were outnumbering you they basically came at you 1vs1 or 2vs1 and giving you enough time in between each fight to recover.

Stopped watching at like 2:30 because there just was no point to it. Beating a bunch of people that seem to be occupied by being fascinated how their drool is falling all over their keyboard without actually realising it’s them drooling all over it does not show the Elementalist is fine.

Quoted for effect. WvW isn’t an even playing field in the way sPvP is. A fair amount of enemy players were clearly not the same level and most likely have sub-par gear

There’s no denying you play your Ele well that’s a given but come on let’s get real your opponents have no clue what they’re doing! Looks like half of them are actually keyboard turning, standing in your AOE and using zero CC on you.

This reminds me of BWE1 and 2 when nobody knew our telegraphs and got owned leading us to the very situation we are in right now. We kicked crap around like Warriors and got abused by the nerf bat, compare that to today’s Warrior (even though they got rebalanced) and I simply cannot understand why they’ve left us in the state we are.

I was actually on the lookout for 80’s and none of the fights did not have atleast one enemy without a green arrow next to their name (meaning they were lvl 80). Nice vid, I just wish ele’s had weapon change so that I could run both this combo + staff at the same time.

edit: also, I notice how not even your highest damage spell does more damage than the thief spamming heartseeker in the “powerful sPvP ele exploit” parody movie. That says alot about the class :P

A lvl 20 geared can reach way better stats than a lvl 80 just FYI (on a low hp pool class I can reach 25k+ hp while having 3.2k dmg), not all of them were 80 but if you open your eyes you will be able to recognize some lvl 80 armors. Also good thieves using dagger storm, do they really exist ? Don’t make me laugh =(

I could prolly record some sPvP tourney matches as well since the build I made is used for holding 1vs2+ at the enemy’s closest point (the problem is that sPvP is boring, they casualized the way you equip your gears so people don’t even have to mix their stats since all your stats are on your amulet and the maps get boring after playing them for months).

I would be interested in checking out some of your sPvP videos. Would you mind sharing your build?

It’s funny how people on forums always consider the others to be newb =) If you could hint me where the good players are, tell me. ‘Cause I’ve tried it on the top 3 US servers & top 3 EU servers and it’s the same stuff in there. Maybe all those so good players are just hiding behind their zerg thus why I can’t find them out there ? =/

I like the class because it’s the weakest but it’s not weak to the point where it can’t do anything (even tho’ most people says the contrary), if they were to make the elementalist as skilless than the other classes then A.Net would have done a great job at making a game that takes even less skill than WoW (first season arena) =(

Someone who is level’d in WvW is way weaker than a true level 80. You need to take some low level classes into WvW and try it. When I was leveling my Elementalist, I didn’t notice this, it seemed fine, but that’s because everybody was leveling at the time. Now taking other classes into WvW as low level, I notice just how bad my damage output is (even more so if you’re condition based because you’re stuck with the ticks for ~45 instead of ~110), and just how squishy they all are, and that’s not even taking into account the missing skills and missing traits, which for some classes are huge game changers.

In WvW I’m mostly running a staff support/AoE build, aka a terrible 1v1 build. I got jumped in the borderlands jumping puzzle at the chest by a thief. I was actually not paying attention and was looking at something on my second screen, he got a full pistol whip off before I even tried to fight back, and the damage was just pathetic. I bet I could have stood there and tanked his pistol whip spam while auto attacking him to death. Really, I should have been a free kill, instead he didn’t even stand a chance. I think you underestimate just how much of an advantage being level 80 in WvW is.

WvW and arguably pve is the only thing elementalist are good for. Other then that my main will still be an elementalist no matter what.

Since you are not denying the fact that ele’s are weaker when considering same level of effort I am not going to go into detail on that, just wanted to say I really enjoyed your video

Let’s face it, I was horrid when I first started PvPing as Ele. I have been trying out several different builds and finding out what my playstyle really is. It takes PRACTICE. I’m not nearly as bad as I was and I’m getting better and better. Perhaps Ele isn’t for everyone.

Elementalist is fine if you master the class. I have 2 Elementalist (call me crazy. 1x Level 80 and 1x Level 10).

There are some abilities are weak in damages majorly it depends on your traits. MOST important thing for Anet to look into is to fix the Abilities and Traits bugs.

Some Traits aren’t working properly with the Skills at all. It’s broken, some of them are game breaking and some are not. Some broken skills will fix the survival issues such as cooldown bugs.

My issues is the Staff shooting cone. If the enemy end up a split second 145 degree either left or right. It cancels my cast and also due to the SLOW cast time.

WvW: Less skilled opponents. Major gear difference, and people who are potentially aren’t even PvP specced, and even higher chance to not run into someone who is geared for even a bit of toughness which is the anti-burst stat.

Long story short I’ve done 1 v 4s easily while camping the jumping puzzle in eternal bgs on my ele while not in great gear just because I was level 80 with toughness, and a PvP spec.

Having toughness is a major different on Elementalist, your survival rate is higher.

Anyways, you had orb of powers. Probably 2 or 3 which gave you a major boost in there. Fighting lower levels too. And fighting mostly only terribad players. The amount of micro management you did was impressive. Keeping in mind that evasive arcana and attunement swapping minor traits require melee gave you the edge for sure.
But that’s the exact problem that make elementalist so weak… we HAVE to be in melee. It doesn’t matter our weapon or build. Too much things rely on being in melee for elementalist. And yet we have the lowest healthpool and thoughness we can get in the game.
That’s where the major problem is at. Yes our damage is low. But that’s countered by having so much attacks, combos and being direct and condition damage at the same time. And yet we still lack in damage compared to what other professions can offer.
In terms of damage, the reward for being good is poor, the reward for being great is low and the reward for mastering elementalist is still under where it should be.
In terms of defense, the reward for any kind of play is mediocre. And just to make sure we are even more defenseless we get the worst possible down state ever.

Go play vs skilled organised players in sPvP and lets see how well you do, not killing scrubs in WvW with orb buffs… facepalm.

As for sPvP is boring that made me laugh, you can keep thinking your good by bashing idiots in WvW with argueably the best class for the job or you can go and fight in a competitive setting.

I watched the whole video and all I can say is…brilliant. Even though some of the players you were fighting were low level, you really show how the Ele can be played and you understand the class perfectly and you had a lot of fights against level 80 players.

I really enjoyed it, I might just dust off my Ele and go have some fun in wvw

In pvp they are fine yes… in PVE its the worse class ive ever played in ANY game.

PVE ele is the biggest class fail EVER.

I would’ve liked to see another class in those same situations. Would’ve been a 2 minute video probably lol.

I think I remember you from Warhammer. We argued on the forums.. I think.

hmm i was thinking through that entire movie.. “hmm it looks more like you knew the people and they let you own them hardcore”.. since none of them seemed to use any hard cc, root, immobilize, stuns etc. and only 2 people in the vid did any noticible dmg at all and both of those where running aimlessly around hitting in the wrong direction 90% of the time

that said as with any other build i see posted with the its good statementi am ofc gonna try it just in case its not one more total bs statement..
what gear do you run with? per,critdmg,power? or tankier?

edit(2hours or so later.):
so tested it out since i posted which is a good handfull of fights since.
it is a very tanky build, its hard to get killed but in return you can’t really kill anyone with half a brain and if they are good and build correctly they will still demolise you.
the skill lvl of using this build is over medium to high and would take more time to perfect it to a point where you could say wheather or not its a good build, but already now its clearly not a example of a build which makes the ele fine. no matter if i did tank or dps runes/accessory i ended up with same result of the good players simply just ripping right through me and i was either forced back fast or could stay and die. it did no where near the dmg it needed to do to make up for it being a quite easy kill compared to the other classes build in the same manner.

(only thing i found interesting was the teleporting in the middle of a channel i wonder when that will get fixed since it applies to all channels and allow you to effectively do stuff you shouldnt be able to normally. even so any good player isnt gonna wasted dodge/block etc till the very last second and will just do sooo much dmg to you while he is waiting for that last second in a fight)

overall conclusion i find is that its close to any other tank build we have seen till now and its mojarly lacking either utility+survive or dps to be on pair with the other classes (- the ranger, i really don’t find the ranger very good in 9/10 cases cool design on it though)

I actually think this is a pretty good video regardless of whether or not you outgeared them. I do want to know though, what kinda gear/stats did you go for? You seem to have quite a bit of hp while still doing pretty good damage. Perhaps due to the orb buffs?

I love ele for smashing keys on the keyboard but only have 1 viable build (30 water, 30 arcane 10 whatever) kinda sad for a class that has over 20 weapon skills + utility skills
