Well-rounded Staff Build/Gear
Link says it’s a Bad one… but it’s:
30 – V, VI, XII
0
0
15 – V
25 – V, VIII
Power/Precision/Vitality Gear.
2 monk, 2 water, 2 strength runes.
Glyph of Storms (mostly for WvW), Arcane Wave (for Blast finisher), and Mist Form.
Thoughts?
You can get the link to display by copy/pasting it in the adress bar.
As for your build, seems like it would work in PvE. Might stacking doesn’t hurt, though I must warn you that Lingering Elements is currently bugged. Also, if you’d get 5 more points in Arcana, you could get Evasive Arcana. Roll into your Lava Font while in Earth would grant you 3 might too. And your other dodges would also get effects.
As for your weapon, which sigil you’re using? Because a Sigil of Battle on your weapon could add another 9 stacks of might.
Arcane precision isn’t that good, source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Precision
So unless that additional 5 points is for the boon duration or attunement swap, I think that you could take 5 points out of arcane.
Link is copy pasted from Address bar. Still shows it as bad for some reason.
Evasive Arcana isn’t that great for Staff usually, because you don’t want to be in the middle of things as a Staff user typically. Especially when I’m building more DPS geared than P/V/T gear.
As for Sigil, I would use either Battle or the +10 power per kill one.
The 5 points in Arcane Precision is kind of just filler, because I don’t know where else I would put it. Maybe Water? To make it 30/0/0/20/20 with Vital Striking or Aquamancer’s Alacrity…

My ele is running PvE & WvW with this build. I like this because this does not limit you to one attunement like fire trail line does.
Damage:
- Critical hits cause vulnerability (60% change)
- More damage (2%) per each boon on you
- 20% more damage to foes with less than 33% health (all attunements)
- Extra 10% damage when health is above 90% (all attunements)
- Fury + attunement bonus boon from attunement swaps (boons = more damage)
- Glyphs recharge 20% faster (heal, elite & utility are glyphs)
Support:
- Remove a condition from you and your allies when attuning to water
- Heal nearby allies when attuning to water
My gear is PVT with 50% boon duration runes (2x monk, 2x water). Trinkets are Berserker. Staff is either Berserker or PVT (depends how group is doing, if things are hard I swap to PVT staff). See Buildcraft link for more detailed armor

That actually doesn’t look too bad, Defora. I was going to make a post about this same subject last night: a supportive staff ele that was good in dungeons and wvw. Especially since I already had an ascended berserker amulet, and wanted to keep my Pvt armor. My issue mostly stemmed from having a valkyrie/knight trinket mix, and if I should keep that or make the switch to full berserker. I have a pair of daggers in my bag, just in case I wanted to switch it up a little.
Following someone else, I went 4 altruism runes for the boon duration with the 3 stacks of might on heal for everyone around. I had some pristine snowflakes in the bank already.

Interesting build Defora… Now that I think about it, with most of the staff attacks being AoE, having a super high Crit percent/dmg might be a lot more beneficial than just straight Power. Especially because, as you mention, the Fire line kind of restricts you to that attunement alone.
I’ll have to have a look at gearing options, etc. I don’t like running with anything less than 17k hp.
Wanted to bump this briefly and see if there were any other players that roll a Staff as a more DPS oriented build, and what they’re Trait setup was?
I was playing with 0/25/0/25/20 last night for a bit in Berserker gear. Seems good, but curious what else is out there.
Defora, I like your trait build, I have a question about your armor / stats though.
I also run PVT armor + zerk trinket/wep, but I don’t come close to 50% crit chance, and according to your link you get 50% crit.
Is the website screwy? or how do you get up to 50% crit without food?

Check his build again, almost 10% of that crit chance does come from consumables

I actually play that exact trait setup. It was pretty good but just a couple days ago I switched to a 30/10/0/10/20. I was running Sup Runes of Dwayna and switched over to Sup Runes of Balthazar.
I normally play with guildies so I am always in a group. This allows me to do a lot of switching attunements for combo fields for the group, but I do really good DPS and my crit hits pretty good also. I am little bit more squishy then before, but not much. I really enjoy the 30 in fire and at least 20 in arcana.

Hello, I’m thinking about making a ‘well-rounded’ staff ele based on PVT armor and Celestials/Divinity.
30/10/10/10/10 or I might change to 30/0/0/20/20
Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks

Here’s a staff build that I theory crafted and have played with occasionally.
The premise is to always have burning up on your target. The traits/runes I picked allow:
10% dmg with full endurance
10% dmg with health above 90%
15% dmg to burning foes
20% dmg to foes with health under 33%.
That’s a 55% bonus to direct damage when your health is full and theirs is below 33%. The trick is to manage staying above 90% health.
Interested in anyone’s comments on this one.

Hey have question what sigil use for 2 staff PVT and Berserk and 2X monk and 2Xwater what is final 2 rune
I’ve been using staff on my elementalist for quite some time now and it’s quite good and fun to use in PvE and WvWvW but not for PvP. I’m using a somewhat glyph build. Here’s a link to build I’m running with:
I’ve been able to add a few combo finishers to make use of all the combo fields available to the staff.
I can almost always get around 18 stacks of might on myself and maybe 10 stacks on my team.
Might Stacking: (This requires you to engage at a closer range)
- cast Earth 2
then Fire 2 (on top of Earth 2)
then Arcane Wave (Inside Fire 2)
this alone gives you 10 stack of might on yourself (Thanks to sigil of battle)
- cast Fire 4(the fire trail is a fire combo field)
then Earth 2 (on top of the trail)
then roll onto the trail (Evasive Arcana Earth will trigger)
then Arcane Wave
this gives you 13 stacks of might on yourself (Thanks to sigil of battle)
Heals & Condition Removal:
- Evasive Arcana Water (When in combat) – Heals and removes a condition
- Water 3 then Arcane Wave or Evasive Arcana Earth (When in combat) – Heals, removes a condition, and gives regeneration
- Water 5 then Arcane Wave or Evasive Arcana Earth (When in combat) – Heals, removes a condition, and give regeneration
- Earth 2 then Water 3 or Water 5 (on top of Earth 2) – Heals, removes a condition, and gives regeneration
- Water attunement – Heals a small amount and removes a condition (Thanks to Water Trait V – Cleansing Wave)
- Shooting Earth 1 through Water 3 or Water 5 also has a chance to remove conditions
Swiftness Stacking:
- Use Air 4
- Use Glyph of Elemental Harmony when on Air Attunement
- Use Air 5 then Arcane Wave
- When in combat, you can also use Evasive Arcana Earth inside Air 5 to trigger another area swiftness
Let me know what you guys think about this build.

Bountiful Power only gives 1% bonus to damage, not 2%.
You really should run Arcane Wave if you’re with a group. As an ele, your only purpose is support. The majority of your support comes from combo fields, so unless you’re running with a SB thief or two, you probably should take Arcane Wave to help with might stacking, healing via water fields, haste from static field, etc.
Consider ditching the ruby orbs in the armor for two Runes of the Traveler, for an additional 15% boon upkeep. This should allow you to ditch the accuracy sigil for a sigil of battle, since the increased boon duration will keep fury up longer. Heck, you could take two staves, one the build up precision counts and a battle staff to switch when you have 25 stacks.
EDIT: And now I see this was a thread necro. Poo.
Recently I’ve been mulling over a glyph based build for my staff ele.
The idea is to have the minimum amount of defensive support that makes sense (a.k.a. 15 pts in water) and support that with offensive support through Zephyr’s Boon (blast in ice field from myself or the ice elemental summons), vulnerability and Altruïsm.
Zephyr’s Boon combined with Arcane Fury pretty much gives me perma fury through the use of Magnetic Aura so it’ll be useful even if I can’t pull off the combo. Glyph of Elemental Power is there to snare stuff so I’ll have an easier time hitting it or to reduce incoming damage through added weakness.
So what do you guys think?
Any thoughts?
