We’re working on the staff in an effort to make it a stronger support weapon, and we also improved the conjure weapons so that they’re stronger for support. You’ll see improvements to all 4 of the conjure weapons to make them stronger and better for support.

We also increased the healing on Water Blast, the radius on Geyser and we reworked
Unsteady Ground to make it function more like line of warding.

Basically the upcoming “buffs” are all intended for support role , including the conjure skills which may be now more appealing to an ally.

Anet doesn’t want ele to be best at anything, it’s their intention to have the ele as a " ready for everything" high skill cap profession, what are your thoughts?

it’s funny how that support principle only seems applicable the the elementalist.

oh well.

I hope that OBT for blade and soul starts soon, that should keep me going for a month then watch dogs get release and I can just spend my time playing the multiplayer.

Well this patch was meant to buff support options for all the classes, I don’t think they’re saying Staff or Ele = support and nothing else.

They might get around to buffing some of the dmg options eventually, it’s still a step in the right direction.

I’m more curious as to why Focus buffs weren’t included in this as Focus seems like it should be the support/defensive offhand.

Its ridiculous, the staff is already a strong support weapon it needs buffing in terms of attacking abilities.

Jade Quarry [SoX]
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Yes and no, some abilities that are “supportive” or utility needed the help.

Geyser radius boost is mainly a QoL change, and a huge one at that.

Unsteady Ground really needed help and changing it to a block will be a very nice utility boost.

The water auto healing boost though is a questionable change, the healing boost isn’t needed it desperately needs a boost in radius as well because it’s currently useless at 90 radius.

I think they are actually in the process of fixing staff, making be able to support and survive (having multiple ways to peel for yourself, then heal). The damage might come from slotting a conjure if you can survive without all defensive utilities. I can see some potential builds coming up.

However, other weapon sets will still be horrible, and ele will still need to be babysat without being given truly innate forms of survivability.

I always felt bad that although ele was considered the jack of all trades class didnt have any variety on combofields and medioce ccs in most used setups.
The only weapon that truly has everything(apart from damage ) is staff.
And its absolutely fine for me if they make it into a pure support weapon. We can find high burst and damage on other weapons.
Im sure they havent finish ..focus still needs changes, arcana is still required for everything etc

By far the most daunting thing is every other classes have had their aoe buffed by now, Rangers got bigger traps, Guardians got bigger symbols, Necs got bigger marks and Engineers now getting bigger bombs. Yet Lava Font remains so tiny…

Their reverting of Unsteady Ground to a prior version (it used to be like line of warding ages ago before they decided they wanted guardians to be special and superior) makes me really hopeful though, rarely do you see Anet reverting nerfs since they mostly prefer to go lala and make changes elsewhere and kitten things up more. I really hope they revert Lava Font too to starts proccing immediately like it used to, like symbols and marks do.

Quasi-elitist dungeoneer and missing Gw1 GvGs greatly.
“GW2’s PvE is almost as bad as the PvP.”
