What Tempest will need
Fourth point, defenses, here we’d need something substantial as we lose arcana (most likely)….and here what do you guys propose? What would be a good fit?
Blocks to synergy with Runes of Guardian and new burning stacking in intensity.
Resistance, to not be obligated to condi cleansing, we don’t have transfer nor converting.

Resistance, to not be so obligated to condi cleansing from water, much of to not be obligated to condi cleasing, we don’t have transfer nor converting.
Really good ones : Block and resistance, well thought!
Yes the tempest should gain access to resistance in case we lose arcana, we need that condi clear so badly, especially after the 23th June and the fact that our specialization will be stuck at mele range
I have the feeling you want everything for the tempest ….
By the way, you “loose” not a single core spec by going Tempest, so i really dont get your “if we loose arcana” ….
…
It does the job well :-)

It is good that you remember that new spec isn’t only gain, but it is something for something else. It is case of exchange of utilties, elites, traitline and if I recall weapon.
Tempest will most of all need a new cool gameplay element to make it fun..Theres no point just copying a new but actually same old d/d with the new weapon and trait line
We all assume that Tempest will be mele , therefore it must have something that makes it compelling respect to d/d brawler style based on boons and healing, specifically Tempest will need something that can pose a problem to deal with for d/d eles, if the latter would keep his dominance over all other weapon sets in a 1vs1 scenario then…no need to buy HoT, don’t you agree?

Let’s not forget that tempest will most likely sit at mele range so this gameplay must be actually useful at that range and must be able to do well against all current mele specs otherwise….

Of course ! Im just saying that being effective at melee isnt enough by itself. Its not even the first priority in my book cause nmber adjustmnets and buffs are easier than mechanic and gameplay changes. It needs to be different or else why bother
Hey isnt swords auto in an attunement giving endurance back?? I think my eye cought that somewhere. It should be interesting :P
I don’t believe that you loose something I mean any of the Core Specializations. Arcana it is going to be there.
Now, ye I would agree that the Air Theme of Tempest should have good mobility, daze, knockdown, and maybe some boon stripping. I would also love to see some new mechanics on the utility skills such as pull, taunt or float effects. I am also thinking Tempest as a control based specialization less than raw / high damage one.
Few weeks ago I made a thread about what I would like to see on Tempest, weapon and utility skills.
Some ideas for weapons skills would be:
Fire
Fire trap: Teleport (similar to the Flashing Light) summoning a fire tornado at your previews spot. The tornado leak flames and burns foes close to it.
Fire head: Buff your self with Fury, Might and swiftness. This skill could be also a finisher.
Water
Acid Rain: Summon a water storm that make enemies vulnerable and weak and heals allies.
Ice cube: Freeze (paralyze) your enemy for 1 second. (similar to Deep Freeze)
Air
Electric Skin(buff): Damage, weaken and blind foes that are hitting you.
Compressed Air: Through a wave of air around you damaging and dazing foes (similar to the Tequatle’s wave). This could be a finisher.
Earth
Rough ground: Create a rectangular field that cripples and bleeds foes, while giving 1sec of stability to allies.
Tactical retreat: Leap backwards leaving 3 lines of earth spikes that knockdown and damage enemies.
Utility Ideas:
- Summon a tornado that pulls enemies in and blinds them,
or Summon a tornado that floats enemies that caught on it, enemies get a small damage when they land.
- Release forward a line of 5 mini whirlwinds that knock down foes they touch and cripple them. The whirlwinds disappear after they hit an enemy, if not they continue moving on random directions for few seconds until they fade away.
(the cast works as “Fiery Whirl” but without the caster moving)
- Create a storm wall that slows enemies that try to cross it and applying fury to your allies. (also could apply other boons like quickness or swiftness – but maybe too op)
- Summon a cyclone that applies taunt to the enemies and gives stability to the allies that try to touch it. The cyclone stays still and can be killed.
- Summon a wind storm that vanish you and your allies into thin air for a few seconds (stealth) the storm applies 3 stacks of vulnerability with each pulse to the enemies that stay inside it.
But I still think that tempest will need boon rip and another damaging condi like :confusion, torment or even slow, something that can potentially de-throne d/d eles from the top 1vs1 ele build position or at the very least become a more than viable alternative
Weapon skills: Sword: I agree Boon Rip, maybe a port like guardian sword #2, 1 or 2 Aura skills (for the aura share ele lovers out there), a block skill would be cool and a burst to rival Scepter but single target just to be fair (like heart seeker?) : ). These things would help make sword synergize well with what we currently have as offhand weapon options.

When I think Tempest, the word I think of is “unstoppable.”
So I hope Tempest will be hard to lock down, whether through cripple/chill/immobilize or through conventional CC.
Lets see, melee range (obviously), something thats significantly different from the current dagger mainhand playstyle, and “tempest” themed. I’m going to guess by that theme they mean hard-to-catch, like the wind, and unrelenting, like a storm. Therefor, I’m going to guess it’ll have significant amounts of evade (akin to s/d thief) and large amounts of condition pressure (because dagger mainhand is already an adequately balanced power-based melee weapon)
Of course, this IS elementalist we’re talking about, so I think whats REALLY going to happen is that we’ll have to go into battle with NO mainhand weapon, and we’ll have a conjurable one-handed sword. Its 1 skill will immobilize ourselves and apply poison to ourselves. The 2 skill will give us fury, might and 25 stacks of bleeding. The 3 skill is called “kitten suit” and turns us into an ooze for 15 seconds. Because thats how anet likes to balance eles.
We know already that the Sword has an Auto-attack chain.
We don’t already know that. Most because some info has been datamined doesn’t mean it’s confirmed. Most look at guardian Longbow skills.
