Was on vacation for 2 weeks so am just getting back into the game. I’m reading that we got a new buff, however my (frail)mentalist is still weak as a wet paper bag and does as much damage as a bunny compared to all the other classes. I’m still unable to play a map high then level 65 as I’ll end up going broke from armor repair and telephoning when defeated.

With the exception of the dragon in Sparkfly Fen (level 55-65) it isn’t worth my time to play a map high then Blood Tide coast. Just die way too frequently on anything harder. Even on the Harathi Hinterlands map it can be difficult to make money. My goal was to get 1 gold by the end of my play time (~5 hours) from having 70 silver. I have about 90 silver.

As of now, on my next weekend off I’ll have to build a warrior just to get somewhere and funnel money into my (frail)mentalist to get the best possible armor and try that.

If there really is a buff, I’d like to know. Never been this frustrated or disgusted with a mage class before.

not buffs, just mostly bug fixes and fine tuning on skills that needed to be fixed (i.e. Fire Grab). Only buff I can think of is the change to Ring of Earth (which now applies cripple).

Our most noticeable buff was to our downed state.

We have a much stronger downed state, and our D/ D builds are better. Ring of Earth causes cripple and Magnetic Grasp is less bugged, which is especially great for pvp’s movement control. Cone of Cold has stronger healing, and Lightning Touch and Fire Grab hit more reliably, which give D/D a more reliable defense and offense. This in addition to dagger’s air buffs from several weeks ago, where lightning whip and lightning touch went from single target to aoe.

For our downed state, our #1 causes two stacks of the vulnerability instead of one, our #2 is Vapor Form now, which lasts less but is much quicker, and our #3 is Grasping Earth, with 50% more damage and bleeding in addition to immobilize (this skill hits hard now).

It’s possible that those weren’t enough for you, though, and unless you’re planning to wait for more changes (devs are aware that some of our spike builds and sustained damage is not quite right there), then I wish you luck with your warrior (their rifle got buffed too).

Downed state is no longer terrible and dagger/dagger set-ups are getting pretty good. Scepter is still mediocre and staff is still a pain solo (but awesome in groups). However, if you are really having that much trouble staying alive you may want to try a way more survival oriented build and gearing strategy. 30 water, 30 arcane, 10 whatever, with, say, power/vitality/toughness gear is a solid choice, for example. Also consider the possibility that the class is just not for you… the squishy is never really going to go away.

I tried to think of a nice way to say this earlier and failed. GG.
