Lightning Orb is warhorn #5 in air.

Usually #5 skills have a strong effect on a long cooldown. How and when is Lightning orb supposed to be used? It just feels like a weak damage skill, am I missing something?

If you use warhorn 4 in air with the skill they will be hit with lightning orb more since it pulls them inward

and it still did pathetic damage even with Marauder gear.

To deal "devastating"* damage to training golems. (At least that’s what the livestream says).

*Devastating apparently means a few 300-400 dmg ticks.

the devastated one is not the golem, its the user

This skill and the air overload should have a 20 percent chance to stun

It’s basically a free ticket to a cabaret.

Lightning orb was one of my favorite abilities, together with lightning javelin from guild wars 1. But Lightning Orb is way different in this game. It was a hard hitting attack on a single enemy. This new lightning orb IS hard hitting especially with the recent 36% damage buff, against a single enemy, but only if that is the only enemy around, which let’s face it. There isn’t many situations where that happens, even in pve.

I would love to see something more like what the revenant’s shield 4 skill is. You target an area, the orb goes to that area, doing damage on the way there and then blasting the area you targeted with a big hit and knocking down or dazing anyone hit by it. But its unlikely to see a change like this, this late in the game.

Nobody will use Warhorn in pve unless its to buff might before switching to staff and picking up an icebow, people only use the weapons that do the most damage with dps builds. Everyone can self sustain even then so they don’t need “melee support”.

The orb should follow a target instead of being an horizontal. Last beta it was completly useless in WvW keeps stairs and on any terrain that isn’t flat. But even then its so slow everyone would have dodged out if it did any noticeable damage.

The new WvW map is completely vertical and horizontal, yet they designed warhorn skills that only function on the horizontal axis…

As for your suggestion, it is a good one. I also like still that have an element of interactivity or multiple stages of success.

I recall one guy desperately defending tempest (he still does that) claiming lightning orb is such a great dps skill.

Not even that since you are required to have tempest spec line equipped in order to use a warhorn.

It IS pretty good DPS….just not for you. While you cast it, the Zerk Warrior can Whirlwind you easily for a ton of damage. Great DPS skill

Like most ele skills it’s single purpose seems to be to look pretty.
