Q:
What weapons do you find yourselves using?
I run with 1 set… Staff in pve, staff in wvw and staff in s- and tpvp…
Surprisingly it works more then great in all scenarios
At least
For me

Spam as many keys as I can and run/dodge/hide as best I can. The weapons don’t matter as much as the calluses on my fingers.
If you are not throwing out skills and moving, dodging and winding every second, you are a dead elementalist.
At lower levels Scepter+Dagger is very strong.
At lower levels Earth #2 gives you a huge armor boost (I’m not entirely sure but I think it’s more than a Soldier with equal equipment), Earth #1 is iirc after Dagger Earth #1 the most damaging auto attack and with Fire #4, #2, #3 you can give yourself 6 stacks of Might every ~20 second and some nice AoE damage.
At higher levels Staff becomes good too because with Evasive Arcana (Arcane Power trait 30) you can blast finish all the combo fields you throw down.
D/D in PvE. Staff in Wv3 and Dungeons. Nuff said.
Staff while grouping for PvE, unless perhaps we have another heavily support-oriented guildie in the group.
D/D for everything else including WvW (unless assaulting/defending a keep, in which case, staff just makes sense.)
I keep a focus on hand for dungeons when a specific ability (invulnerability, projectile destruction) is especially desired. I can’t get into scepter. I know most people love it, but I just care for it. I should probably still make myself learn it better I suppose.

I carry a full set, and swap depending on what I’m doing.
Staff – Dungeons, sPvP, teamed WvW.
S/F – Solo PvE vs. something I’m nervous about. Stories, or soloing events.
S/D – Regular solo PvE, WvW unless I’m going in with a team I know.
D/D – Solo PvE in lower level zones, or just when I feel like taking risks, or I’m on a team but we’re not doing anything tough… just doing zone completion with my Guild or whatever.
D/F – I haven’t found a niche for this combo yet, but I can see some possibilities.
With only 5 weapons (2 daggers) needed, I’ve never had any problem keeping stocked up with at least decent stuff… but my top priority is always S/D when looking at new gear.

I almost exclusively use staves. I’ve played around with two daggers and scepter/dagger (not so much foci), but the play styles haven’t really been for me. I don’t get the staff hate — they’re pretty effective in any situation if you know what you’re doing.
PVE-Hearts/DE’s: Staff
PVE-Dungeons-Trash: Staff
PVE-Dungeons-Bosses: Staff
PVP-WvW: Staff
PvP-SPvP: Staff
Did I miss anything? If so, staff for that too.

Staff for all group events.
S/D or D/D depending on what I’m fighting solo 1v1
As for 2v1.. it usually means I need to be revived or running away like a pansy so I don’t die.
i use all the weapons i can use depending on fights and the people im grouping with.
in spvp i use D/D S/D or staff and i never used focus.
in WvW i always use staff and nothing else.
in dungeons it depends in some of the easy ones like CoF and AC i use D/D coz its fun and deals a ton of damage. when i do hard dungeons like arah or TA FF theni use all my weapons depending on each fight and depending on what im needed for for example at lupicus i normally use staff to dps coz it has the longest range and that helps in 2nd phase but when im needed to dps the adds in the first phase i go S/D… but the weapon i use the least is the focus i rarely use it. i rly prefer to use D in off hand i mean u get 2 knockdowns 2 blast finishers 1 fire field a big heal and not to mention the hardest hitting spell fire grab which crits for 9-12k most of the time
I run Scepter/Dagger for Dungeons, blast finishers = win
Dagger/Dagger for standard PvE content.
Also mess around with Lightning Hammer/Fiery Greatsword a lot. Frost Bow even has it’s uses in some boss fights (anything with a large hitbox or mobs that like to spam skills) as does magnetic shield (using it to pull/kite knights in TA comes to mind when used in conjunction with other skills).
I use scepter/dagger for everything. I love the pace/attack speed, the close/mid range nature, the utility (Knocks, blinds, healing), great offensive group support, and probably my favorite skill in the game, ride the lightning (despite it’s technical issues).

No one running D/D for Dungeons? I plan too, is this a bad idea?

It works but there’s some bosses that you just don’t want to be close to. S/D at least gives you some range if you need it and works well with groups. I’ve been running S/D with conjured weapons recently and it offers a bit of both worlds.

Alot of mechanics in dungeons are not melee friendly. As well as, just in general, mobs hitting hard as trucks limit the effectiveness of being pure melee.

Ah that’s okay then, so long as it’s all situational I don’t mind so much, I would just hate not to be able to run D/D at all, as I truly love that weapon set on Ele
PVE you can’t beat the defensive applications of the Scepter / Focus.
In big champion boss fights I occasionally switch out to the staff just for the 1200 range spells.
PvP Defense – Staff
PvP Offense – Dagger/Dagger
PvE Dungeons – Staff, I like support
PvE Solo – Dagger/Dagger
PvE Group – Scepter/Dagger
I hate the other off-hand, really only like the #5 Earth ability for it.
Mostly dual daggers.
I use staff in some of the dungeons or when I’m with a bad PUG. Also use staff in huge zerg events cause I get a headache being in the middle of that many particle effects.
Staff, staff, staff, staff, staff, staff.
Just staff.
Everything else is very weak in comparasin.
