Whats with eles now?
Elementalist is considered by many the worst PvP class at the moment. However, since the last patch, viablity of the elementalist has gone up due to most important meta builds, especially the ones that specifically countered the ele, getting nerfed. People are playing elementalist succesfully at every spot in the leaderboards, but it’s not as easy to do that well as it used to be.
You can still play D/D ele like you used to, you just won’t be a god. Other important builds are S/X glass cannon, staff glass cannon and diamond skin D/D (new earth grandmaster trait that makes you immune to conditions above 90%. Highly situational trait)
D/D Ele seems to be hurting bad. I started playing about 4 months ago and I didn’t get to see the glory days of d/d.
But I’m all staff and I’m taking names everywhere. It’s great. All the QQing here seems to be from people who miss “the good old days” when they were walking gods.

This. This is probably how I should have said it elsewhere. It’ll really come down to your skill, dedication, key binds and how prepared your build is to fight in any situation.

Eles are deadweight in pvp.
Sure they are. Or maybe that’s just you when you play ele.

Or maybe you shouldn’t judge other players based on yourself.
Any player that is excellent at playing ele will be MUCH better when playing another class to the same extend. That’s a fact that even the devlopers acknowledged.
FYI I’m beast at playing ele.

I’m excellent at playing ele yet I sucked when I tried Mesmer for a good amount of time in WvW so I don’t see where you originated that false logic. I would like to see a source of the developers acknowledging this theory of yours.

FYI so am I, and I know the class isn’t a liability. Where does that leave us? I’m sick of everybody trashing ele at every turn, so my kindness level towards the negativity is about a zero right now.

elem was never phenomenal, it had a ‘good’ build that was highly utilized in pvp.. for the sake of everyone else, the other portions of the game, and mmo’s in general i feel it’s pertinent to establish that elem has always been ‘good’ depending on how dedicated you play the profession.. its irrelevance the past several months when considering the other professions speaks volumes for itself
It once had a “good”, op, god mode like build where even absolute beginners used to perform great with the profession.
would you like that bridge gift wrapped?
Yep and i need you to work overtime.

Thank you for the responses, im not looking for a easy mode class or anything the more challenging the better. I think thats why i was drawn to the thief so much cause i struggled with that class for so long. After i posted this i fought a d/d ele in a hotjoin on my thief. Normally i see d/d eles as easy kills due to my boonsteal and such but for whatever reason i could not touch this guy, i was being chain stunned for long periods of time and i really couldnt do much damage to him. I dont play a glass thief i run 2700 toughness and can normally eat a bit of damage but this guy would drop me pretty fast if i stayed around. No idea what build he ran or how he did it but it kinda inspired me to play one now lol. I consider myself a above average thief and this guy made light work of me multiple times.

“There are many valid concerns about the Elementalist” have nothing to do with acknowledging his theory. Most importantly, there are many valid concerns across all the professions.

That’s fine n’ dandy but you and I both know exactly what “valid concerns” means in this case, considering what he was responding to.
And seriously, there is no point in stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the issues that Ele’s face (in SPvP at least). It’s not helping anyone. We all have to work together to highlight issues with this class to the devs and in the end it will only improve the game for everyone. Even non-Ele’s will be happier because when one is on their team, they will no longer have something to worry about it.

They don’t face as many issues as you think. And they aren’t as perfect as warriors right now. I don’t think we are in a bad spot if they just bring other classes down a tad.
And pardon us old eles for being… Very skeptical at anybody saying they’ll change ele positively. Each patch we’ve gotten has been a nerf, and yes I consider the most recent patch a nerf since I don’t support hard counters.

One of the biggest problems for me is that the bad survivability makes it absolutely impossible to help downed team mates. 99% of the time its complete suicide and you just create two corpses instead of one. Even soldier’s is extremely squishy.

It’s also a feels stupid when someone is trying to res you, because I’m pretty sure health/armor values also carry into downed state and many builds can just BURST you down faster than you’re being revived lol.

In spvp it is not as bad as forum posters make it sound. I’m all up for buffs, who wouldn’t welcome buffs for the professions the player uses as main. I have never hear a mmorpg to have a complete class balance. It is that hard or maybe impossible to accomplish when so many variables take place.

So what about outside of pvp? I know I love a Elle in my group in pve but what about wvw? Most the wvw posts seen to be d/d and s/d, how do you guys feel as roamers
I feel amazing as an ele in WvW. No complaints whatsoever.

WvW is part pvp. No complaints at all for wvw roaming or running with the zerg. As a matter of fact I strongly believe it is within this setting where we excel the most.
