Q:
Where does d/d damage come from?
Direct damage. Conditions are more of a bonus for eles than something to build around.
Not saying it can’t be done, but direct damage is the thing people normally go for.
Don’t mix pve and spvp pls.
In PvE, your dmg will come from direct dmg Lighting Whip. D/D is not that great in PvE because dagger off-hand don’t offer much while focus will give you the defensive capability to stay close to the target in difficult situation, but not a bit deal. You should keep zerker as celestial would be bad there.
In sPvP/roaming, your dmg come from everywhere and that’s why celestial will be efficient. You have the same skills, but the target is different. You gonna need the mobility, CC and healing that d/d provide you and condition will be more effective there. D/D ele in PvP will need to constantly switch attunement to use the most of all their skills while make the best use of swapping sigil like battle or energy. Your dmg will mostly come from Fire skills for burst and burning and air for the lightning whip.
D/d ele more about burst dmg then dps dmg landing BS or Fire Grab when some one is burning is a big game changers in a fight. There some dps skills for d/d ele mind you but even things like LW is a 2 hit burst attk it was just made into a 1 hit dps attk though the exploitation of drawing weapons before the after cast the first first hit.
So over all d/d dmg is burst that can be avoided by evasion or blocks but due to the aoe way of its effects you simply cant move out of the way of the attks for the most part.

when it comes to DD, in roaming style. I go for a mix of zerker weapons trinkets with zealot armor. Traveler rune. This way everything hits soo hard and you still get a nice chunk of healing to keep the fight up if a 2v1 arises in zergy wvw. but if you wanna get the most overall DPS without doing the celestial route. I’d say zerker everything mixed with carrion so you keep your power up and still get condi damage to boot. Fire 2 hurts. Sometimes i like to toy around with something like 5-0-0-3-6 with some kind of burn duration rune (fire is awesome with the shield if you traited for prot in earth on aura). With like energy then battle/smoldering or battle smoldering if you traited ii in arcana. You can have someone constantly burn while fighting you, plus you’ll deal more damage to burning targets since the fire trait in grandmaster 5. something to check out if your interested hope i helped
