Played the usual 0/10/0/30/30 with the proper staff traits and kitten . staff is an amazing weapon to support the mid point.. Sure 1v1 it’s bad and you don’t have too much mobility but your support is amazing! AoE might, AoE frost armor, AoE swiftness and perhaps the most important one, AoE healing! Thr massive AoE does a ton of damage even when you use soldiers or some defensive amulet. I actually felt more effective than a D/D ele. So yeah.. where are all the staff eles? Maybe still not as effective as D/D but it’s not unviable imo at all..

rather, staff is the second best weapon set after d/d in the sense that there are still skills which need a buff compared to it

1) Gust = very limited hit boxes and the ground targeting doesn’t make any sense as you’re trying to puch away the target and not snaring him like shockwave, which is way better being also a projectile finisher

2) Unsteady ground = it should apply 10s cripple when people pass through it while giving some sort of field, right now you need people to directly sit on it and don’t move..quite stupid

It’s not terrible, but it’s iffy playing it at close range in the little tpvp circles trying to contest/hold points. Particularly when you only have 4 teammates and are more likely to engage in 1 on 1s. Of course, no RTL so longer travel time assisting points elsewhere. Staff water 4 on a point is your most powerful tool, stacking lots of chill if people hang out in it, though it’s a long cooldown if/when the condition is cleansed.

It’s better suited to the 8 player hotjoins imo. Not because of the quality of players but simply because of the nature of hotjoins. More people on your team, meaning higher likelyhood of fighting alongside 1 or more teammates which staff ele prefers. Also more prolonged fights on a point meaning less situations where you need to travel to a different point (where you don’t have RTL to speed the trip)

all (ALL!) of those can be done with D/D:
AoE might? np, Ring of Fire, earthquake+churning earth+arcane wave
AoE frost armor? np, aurashare!
AoE swiftness? just use a random aura (too bad leap thru ring of fire is still bugged, I think)
AoE healing? cone of cold, cleansing wave (+ evasive arcana and healing ripple which are shared between weapons)

on top of all this, you get better mobility

sorry, but staff is just plain inferior to d/d.

Well it has better AoE cleansing and healing abilities and offers better AoE chill and 2 waterfields. Also more area denial and 1200 range. But yeah I guess it’s inferior to D/D. However it’s way more fun to play and if played right can be equally effective I think. And prolly outshines the AoE healing of a D/D ele.

It is this but its also because staff requires you to keep your distance from bursty melee moreso than D/D does. Its quite difficult to kite a few people in a small tPvP match compared to say the massive open world of WvW.

You must finish the animation to get the fire shield; you can’t get interrupted mid-leap or you lose the finisher. Also, Powerful Auras only shares auras gained via your regular weapon skills and traits, not from combo fields, etc.

Anyways. have you seen the terrible long animations and casting times on staff ???
its just terrible.
and the totaly useless AoE stuff.

4 second cast for an AOE ?
Small Stationary AoE that need time before they erupt and actually DO dmg ?

you know people never stand still in pvp ?? so you can never hit any of the AoE crap.
Hell, you can hardly even hit people with autoattacks since they move so slow.

Well I play tournaments only with a full team and as a staff ele I srand on ledges to support and don’t really get in melee range. Quite similar to like well bombing necro or engineer HGH nades. Worse in terms of damage better in terms of support.

Well I play tournaments only with a full team and as a staff ele I srand on ledges to support and don’t really get in melee range. Quite similar to like well bombing necro or engineer HGH nades. Worse in terms of damage better in terms of support.

I tried and necro and engies are way better. They melt bunkers in team fights and won’t go down easily in a side point fight, these capabilities are very important atm.
