Why not stay in one atunement?
Because the ele is an avatar

We believe that using all 4 attunements will save the world

Best response ever!!! lol
If you want to camp one element at all times, you’re not getting the point of ele’s. In fact that’s what other classes do.
And I agree with Fuzzion.

Someone has not played Guild Wars 1. =)
I understand where you are coming from in this game. But stance dancing is only a requirement with dagger. Which also happens to be the most balanced weapons for this class.
Unfortunately, I don’t really have any ideas to bring to the table so I will just take a seat back and see where this discussions ends up.
You can camp fire if you use staff, with Fire XI and VII you make lava font have 100% uptime, and it’s a high damage fire field, so if you’re just doing damage, camping fire is fine. If you need to use control or heals though, you still need to switch.
Nice thing about GW2 is the diversity of builds. What works for one man may not work for the other, so with that said, if you wanna stay in one attunement, do so. I know it can be done because I have done it.
I found, for me, with my build, in wvw, staying in fire while fighting with D/D I survive longer than when switching attunements constantly.

For a switcher the Elementalist in Guild Wars 2 i just not good enough designed in my opinion. there should never be a weakest nor a strongest element but this game clearly shows that there is.
But because those element “dancing” is class mechanic now and because that what other classes have in two weapons, eles have in 4 is the reason why you should not stay on a single atunement.
I prefer a specific element anyway so i just don’t care and play most of the time on that element, so i’m one of the one-atunement-user.
@Chris
Very well spoken. It does suck that you are kind of forced into this Avatarish role rather than actually specializing in an element. But people could really argue this either way. That is simply just my opinion.
I always liked the idea of being able to double up attunements so you could have both staff fire and s/d fire as 2 of your 4(for example); would have given builds a hell of a lot more flavor and made investing into specific trait lines more rewarding
Personally I hate being forced to switch, it’s just so limited. I would have liked to have been able to build 1 and 2 element specialists as well as 4 element generalists.

no? every other class has 5 skills per weapon…
with interesting, well-implemented traits, 5 weapon skills could easily be every bit as good/flexible as 20.

My WvW staff focuses heavily on fire and water occasionally switching to air and earth for some extra CC when needed.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Sure other classes have 5 skills per weapon too, but they do have weapon swap :P
I feel much more engaged, and enjoy Ele more, when constantly switching atunements. To be honest, it’s probably the thing I like most about the class.

Which is why he points it out that using “…it’s just so limited” and ’I’d like to specialize in one attunement’ in a single thought is silly.
Although, you could argue that many other people specialize and camp a single weaponset, and I would genuinely agree. I would also say that most of those people are sillies too.
*Exceptions: HEAVILY specialized/powerful builds such as Forceful Phallanx GS Warrior or similar.

Which isn’t true due to offhands which are only 2 skills and single-handed main hands that have 3 skills, GG?

you’re conflating “limited” solely with #skills when I was clearly referring to builds/playstyles.
being forced to play Ele as a 4-element generalist is clearly more limiting than being able to also specialise in 1 or 2 elements.
Also, even a Pyromancer’s Staff Ele shouldn’t only camp fire because you’d be losing out on a very powerful blast finisher from Earth. However, you can do this passively. I’ll usually swap to earth right before a Conjure so I can use my bursts and then be ready for my might/fury stacks as soon as I’m done with the Conjure. Staff Ele is kind of lopsided for this debate though as Fire is heavily geared toward damage to the point other attunements are strictly used for control/utility, but they are VERY good for those uses in order to land all your burst damage.

No I’m not. But Ele is balanced around having access to 20+ skills which is why most of them are weaker than similar skills of other profession’s weaponsets. No matter how much you specialize in Fire, it doesn’t change the fact that using a stun, chill, or immobile after a Meteor Shower is very effective. Ie. You can specialize BUT ‘dancing’ is still important for being most effective with Ele. That is the design and won’t be changed. Engis do this same kind of ‘dancing’ for maximum efficiency for the exact same reasons. That’s why these two professions are considered, by most, to have the highest skill ceiling in the game.
