Why to play an Elementalist?
Why I am playing elementalist?
- Very cool Animation :P
- My first character to reach 80 (yeah I still miss these old times)
- Nice mobility
- Nice Healing
- Fun to play (you have to evade and stuff in order to survive unlike a warrior who can “rush…. boom 7k… hundred blades… boom 40k… AA… enemy down” in PvE)
- You have the lowest base hp-pool and light armor -> unforgiving and a real challenge
- relatively high skill cap
- your hp goes up and down
- nice dmg for dungeons (for example SE P1) with fiery gs and frostbow
- nice overtime dmg with double dagger
- nice burst and sustained damage with s/d
- awesome dmg (the best ingame) with staff (eruption -> fire #2 -> Meteor = awesome damage in dungeons)
ah yeah the only thing I don’t like is that my daggers on my asura Ele are soooo smale I can barely see them which makes every investment that isn’t for a fractal/legendary dagger a questionable decision
I think about a human Ele but I just love my asura and my armor and that’s why I’m always gonna stick with it
Highest damage in game? I thought thief have that?
And lowest hp with light armor o.o?
Elementalists do not have that many dodges? Thief got more I heard. Is that right? How you survive in WvW?

You either support in a zerg, or massively outplay everyone else by a huge margin.
- Very cool concept
- Fun to play
- Lots of mobility (with daggers, at least)
- High burst potential
- Spells look cool
- Gives me a nice break from playing Engineer
- Awesome AoE with staff
That’s about it.
I found having 20 skills at my disposable really fun and entertaining. I’ve seriously tried every class and most of them bored me to tears and others just got tiring over the time. Ele does have a bit of a learning curve but it’s fun. I mostly spend my time in wvw.
Might stack and FGS.

It’s not the size, mate. It’s how you use ’em.
It was my first character and used to be my favorite until I decided to shelve it. later revisited to grab it for the staff since I noticed my server lacks that many elementalists and more so lacks suicidal staff zerkers to take out siege weapons and rain the pain on another zerg. Also….I like 9k+ cloak and dagger hits plus with sigil of fire/air procs since i wont have to even take the backstab…. and would like to give power rangers something to kill aside from tickling warriors…umm I dont think I missed much.

i like elementalist because any other profession in this game can solo hard counter it

if the user playing the elementalist is horrible then that is absolutely the case.

I had the same concern so I bought one of those items that let you increase the size of your character from the tp. Now my asura is at max hight and the weapon sets are clearly visible without having me to zoom in.

Actually even the “average” player of another class trying their hand at Ele will realize they are constantly getting stomped by almost every other class/build out there.
The only case where the Ele is handed an easy win is 0/0/30/20/20 (diamond skin) D/D Ele going up against a full-condi Necro (carrion).
Other than that specific situation, it’s all hard work and out-playing your opponent.

My personal reasons are the ability to adapt to the situation, and the combo fields.
Highest damage in game? I thought thief have that?
at least in PvE even a dead Ele can outburst a thief if he used staff earth #2 → fire #2 → fire #5 and then gets killed.
In WvW/PvE thief is better than Elementalist for pure burst
And lowest hp with light armor o.o?
Elementalists do not have that many dodges? Thief got more I heard. Is that right? How you survive in WvW?
it depends, with my mix Ele build (double daggers) I have 100% vigor uptime (10 in arcana: renewing stamina) and then I have a lot of dodges.
In order to have more dodges a thief has to go with at least 15 into athletics. But it’s right they can have more dodges especially with the one signet and the vigor on heal and with withdraw and with s/d #3
But as an Ele your main defense lays in your ability to heal yourself for a lot (and of course to dodge attacks and that’s why the Ele skill cap is relatively high – you need the dodges to survive, without dodging you have no chance at all)
This means Ele is weak against burst a you most of the time can’t out heal the enemy’s burst but this also means that you are very good in a long fight – especially if you also have superior Sigil of battle and boon duration, permanent 12-25 might stacks and perma fury allow you too go less offensive and put more stats into toughness/vita/healing – which is needed because as I said light armor and lowest base hp
MAGIC. that’s the reason.
need anything else?

You mean the one from the gem store? The one that let’s you fully recreate your character (except race, class and name)
Ok maybe I should try that too
I play an ele because I want to play a caster as in other MMORPGs.
Avallora Erasleigh // e
Tara Airgetlám // m
Pretty pretty animations
My preferred play style(fast, high stakes, high energy, active)
Feels like an accomplishment when you win in pvp
Can do just about anything even if its not the best at it
My legendary is bound to her
My best skins are bound to her
She’s my best looking character.

I just rolled an eel for the playstyle, you are the most adaptive class in the game.
Also ele requires the more APS then any other class (actions per second btw) you show me the best ele in the game and I’ll show you the best player in GW2.

That person might consider himself average while playing other professions but he is still horrible with the Ele if he is getting defeated that many times on 1v1 scenarios against all the other professions. The only time it is hard work is if you face a player that rarely lose 1v1. That’s when outplaying your opponent takes place.

Bad Eles are really really BAD… Good Eles are really really GOOD. This is a class with absolutely no middle ground. Its impossible to just be OK at Ele (if your just ok your bad, sorry) I don’t say that to be pretentious im currently bad at my Ele but i have only been on this toon for about a month so ill get there soon. The fact is, people think Ele sucks because you really have to be pro to make this class work, but if you are pro Ele is the strongest class out there hands down.
^I got totally outplayed by a D/D Ele yesterday when I was roaming with my condition Mesmer. No matter what I did, the Ele didn’t really seem to care that much (except once but she ; while I was eating damage constantly (wasn’t a condition ele, but those burns actually did hurt as well). Also couldn’t even land scepter 3 on her (female char; no idea what gender irl), because I either had to dodge or she was behind me right when the cast activated (making it go on full cooldown), due to her constantly being all over the place. The really funny part was, that I almost got her down while I was downed haha, and I’ve spent enough time in downed-state to use skill 2 like 3 or four times in total. No idea why, though. Maybe she was playing with me. o.o
So yeah, I agree. An Ele in the right hands can be REALLY strong. Not saying it’s easy, though. I would have /bow-ed to that Ele, if I wouldn’t have been dead and unable to. ^^
Edit: Fixed a typo.

To a lesser degree I feel the same way about THF I think its less extreme There is more of a middle ground for THF than there is for ELE but I have played a few THFs that are just unbeatable and then I have played PLENTY of Heartseaker scrubs that I just mop the floor with.
Overall point here to those that say don’t play ELE its under powered… no… just no. ELE is probably the best class in the game it just has an insanely high skill cap, honestly even great players usually suck at ELE (and they don’t even know it cuz there are so few good ELEs out there)
The untapped potential in the class is crazy and that’s why I play ELE
Because it’s the only class where winning takes effort. Fact.
Because life is too good, need some torture in fantasy life to balance it. j/k
I initially made an ele because I figure I can play around with more builds (most weapon skills with 1 weapon)… little did I know… Now I am not sure if I want to spend gold gearing this ele.
Spend the gold if you really enjoy the class. ANet themselves said they will be discussing ways to buff Ele’s (after holidays are over, which they are) and bringing us that info soon. At this point it’s not even up for debate that Ele’s need help.
Hopefully they actually THINK this time and don’t do a repeat of Dec 10 patch.
Staff has super high PVE damage in dungeon groups
D/D is prob the most fun play style in the game, in both PVE and WVW.
I hate scepter but its kind of taken the Daggers popularity away

I have 0 faith in Anet currently. I am going to save up gold; if ele end up usable, I can spend it then. If Anet continue to screw ele, then I can use the gold for other things. Right now I just keep my ele at bare minimum. I do have an ascended zerker staff (tequalt was kind to my ele), and will leave everything else random things I get from PvE.
