They were mechanically similar to how Druid’s Avatar form or Warrior burst skills work?

Which is to say, you gain a resource that builds in combat and is independent of your specific attunement. When it’s full, you press f5 to activate the overload for whatever your current attunement is.

I’m not very impressed with Tempest and I don’t know that I would be playing one anyway, but. I feel like this would address the problems of having to camp attunements when the ele playstyle doesn’t necessarily support it, as well as stuff like being able to use Overload Water when you actually need it, rather than 5 seconds from when you need it. Plus, having to build up some kind of force to trigger an overload feels more thematic to me than just having everything on a timer.

Furthermore, this could allow for overloading to be on a global cooldown, instead of setting an attunement on cooldown after you use one.

I think that makes much more sense than the current implementation, but unfortunately it’s so close to release that that would never happen.

For sure. I would have loved that a lot more.
It would have fit more with the ele style of swapping attunements, rather than sorta camping them (5 sec waittime before use) and locking you out of them for a long time, as is done atm with the overloads on beta.

I think that makes much more sense than the current implementation, but unfortunately it’s so close to release that that would never happen.

Yeah it being so close to release makes me find it unlikely too that it will happpen.

What do you guys think of these changes btw?
They are more likely to happen this close to release.

It’s not gonna happen. They are just a few weeks away from a release. The best we can push for now is better numbers.

I would not like them more. Even if Overloads are questionable in power level, I don’t want to rely on a Resource Mechanic for the Ele outside of Cooldowns. I just dislike Resource Mechanics, and it’s one of the key draws to the Elementalist for me over other classes.

ugh I really love this idea! like you camp an attunement building up your power with every spell you cast and then BAM you unleash it in a huge burst of elemental power! it reminds me a bit of how sorcerers and brightwizards worked in warhammer online and I really loved that mechanic. I really hope this idea get attention because I think we can all agree overloads need a complete over haul.

I think it’s certainly an idea. I can’t say I like it more than the current implementation primarily because I think moving away from (not ditching) the whole attunement dancing angle isn’t a bad thing.

I’d actually like a larger emphasis on specializing attunements by taking their lines (moreso than currently) so that it’s a tougher choice to pick between “making [insert attunement] really useful (fire, air, water, earth)”, “giving you bonuses to swap more/better (arcane)” and “fill-in for attunements you didn’t pick (tempest)”.

A lot of people mention Water overload being bad, and while I think some extra could be added to it, if you’re using an offensive build without the Water line, that water overload helps sooth that tough choice. But if you did pick water, and you have a defensive/supportive build with healing power, you can make bigger supportive leaps for more allies. That’s how I think the lines should feel and how tempest works with them. Arcane seems an anomaly to me as it seems more aimed at generalizing in a way that Glyphs do but better (which is likely why glyphs are in a poor place…).
