Downed State Updates
Discharge Lightning: This skill can now stack vulnerability up to 2 times.
Grasping Earth: This skill has been moved to skill 3 and given a 10 second recharge. Damage has been increased by 50%, and it bleeds enemies on every pulse. This skill can now be interrupted by other skills.
Vapor Form: This skill has been moved to skill 2, is instantly available upon being downed, and has a 20-second recharge.

To say these changes are not much is just wrong. Vapor Form being up immediately on downed state with a 20s CD alone is just perfect.
It means you will die 50% less once you are downed. You will still be downed in 90% of fights though. (I just calculated those numbers in my imagination. I’m that good.)
Its a nice change, I for one am happy with it.
The downed state change is fantastic. (haven’t played yet though) If they didn’t nerf the RTL skill I would be the happies GW2 player in history of GW2. Now Im just at mildly excited levels.
Well, once we flee and they follow, they will be ready to stomp us when taking solid shape again. The Grasping Earth skill damage buff isn’t really much, as all effects end when you die in my experience. But nice changes overall. Thanks devs.

I’m glad that Elementalists finally got a decent downed state, but compared to their survivability (which is really good unless you suck), I think vapor form is way too kittening good and I was hoping that this wasn’t going to be the way they fixed it.
Well, time to never stomp elementalists ever again.
Well, once we flee and they follow, they will be ready to stomp us when taking solid shape again.
Unless you will use it to come closer to your allies and buy some time or go into your tower in WvW and heal there. It is currently one of the best downed skills in the game <3.
While the changes are nice, I still think Grasping Earth’s Immobilize effect is rather useless. Even if you run with Vapor Form dodging twice to get maximum distance melee foes will still be on top of you pounding your face in.
Only idea I have to fix that is add a knockback on Grasping Earth when it’s used to foes around you. Or give Vapor Form a 3-5 second cripple
Grasping earth does some nice damage though!
It’s a slight buff, as in you wont get stomped instantly, however they nerfed the duration of the mist form, and you can’t go near as far as before the change
The immobilize is still worthless
but eh, I’ll take it

Doesn’t vapor form gives you swiftness now and is super fast? It doesn’t lasts as long, but you can manage to flee and immobilize right after your foes. It’s pretty cool. It’s a strong downed state, but it’s also balanced, because after the first vapor form, the elementalists are easy targets to stomp, unless the context of the battle or of the map allows them to flee to somewhere safe.
It’s lovely.

Haha really? Still not satisfied?
With our new downstate as is, we can escape ANY amount of enemies trying to stomp us for a few seconds, and FORCE them to follow us if they want the kill. AND if it is just one enemy and he doesn’t follow us, he gets immobilized. How is that not freaking awesome?
I mean, compare that with any of the other downstates in the game…it rates up there with the best for sure.

Grasping earth does some nice damage though!
AND it’s a leap finisher. A good combo I’ve found against melee enemies is if you’re in fire, drop a ring of fire, then swap to earth and use magnetic grasp (I only use this skill in close range so it hits, it’s pretty worthless from far away), then dodge roll back into the ring. If you use evasive arcana (EA) like me, you’ll get the damage from ring, damage from grasp, a short immobilize, a fire shield, 3 might stacks, as well as the damage and bleed from the churning earth that EA sets off. What’s not to like

Also wanted to add, that thie thief and mesmer downstate teleports are actually vulnerable to “blink stomp,” meaning that a player can start the stomp, watch where the downed player teleports to, then immediately blink to that location before the stomp finishes…getting the kill on the first stomp.
There is literally NO WAY to finish an ele on the first stomp now…unless they are stupid and don’t mist. Even stealth stomp or mist stomp won’t get them. THAT is freaking amazing.

Not much? Its an amazing change. It has less counters than any other downed 2. Even against teleports you can teleport with the enemy to stomp him. You can blind or daze interrupts while stomping. You can get stability.
Mist Form has…no counter at all. And heals the ele back to half hp downed so even damaging the ele right away doesnt work. Which works nicely on mesmers and thiefs.
If you play most of the game in the downed state you are bad, plain and simple. Grats all you eles, I always felt bad for your downed state haha, now you guys will certainly be a threat, I look forward too it as a breath of fresh air honestly. Was getting tiring seeing eles go down and be easy stomps. I dont play ele but Im happy with the changes, while it makes them more annoying and damaging it also makes me happy that proper changes were made.

Contrary to popular belief, Ele is not a horrible class. If you are dying all the time then it’s your fault…plain and simple.
As for me, I die frequently in WvW, but that’s because I play crazy. I will RTL into a large amount of players and try to inflict a lot of damage and maybe mist stomp someone then escape. This is INCREDIBLY risky behavior, and I fully expect to die fairly frequently, but I have no problem with it.
If I actually played it safe, and only attacked groups of 3 or less, I would die much less. As it is, even though I die a lot, I can get away from like 5 or 6 most of the time, which is pretty freaking good no matter how you slice it.
I mean, just put yourself in the other players’ shoes. Do you know how frustrating it would be for an ele to charge into your group of 5, down your buddy who was lagging behind, and mist-stomp him, while you try to revive him in futility? And then after that, that ele swaps to water attunement to purge your immobilize right before switching to air and RTLing away.
That is a relatively normal thing that happens when I play…I’m not really uber, I just have a decent build.

Conditions Build + Churning Earth & Blink + Drake’s Breath + Burning Speed + RTL….. + Undergeared Upleveled Newbs in WvW…..
Brings a smile to my face every time. I like to think somebody is asking themselves WTF just happened, even if they don’t die. It’s not all about kills. Sometimes it’s just about drive-by trolling the enemies.
I keep trying to play other classes, but none of them are this much fun. Effective? Sure, maybe. But fun? Not even close.
Mist Form on Downed is just more fun. Easier Fire Grasp…more fun. I don’t really care about winning every fight. I just like to make their lives a nightmare. You can’t really annoy your enemies to death, but you can annoy them enough to make them late for their appointments (keep sieges, node captures, hot dates, whatever).
