Friend, father & lover!
Hello there fellow rockstars, lovers and friends!
I have a question regarding the making of my Ascended Wup Wup (Celestial) armor.
I Love my Elementalist, i really do. However, i love my Engineer equally much.
Not sure who deserves the armor the most. You know, who deserves to be most complete. I know the stat difference is minumum, its still bothers me though. Feeling complete is awsome.
Ill go straight on and give you my opinion.
My Elementalist looks flashy, is a Sylvari male which makes most armor look awsome, and the ascended will look even mroe awsome than he already does. However, for anything except roaming in WvW ill be using Zerker, to my despair. I got my Ley Line daggers which i will pair with the ascended look which would make me feel awsome.
However, my engineer is actually ALOT more fun in short periods of time, gets very exhausting and sore fingers after playing it for longer times at a time. Also he is a Charr, which makes alot of armor, including the ascended skin look lousy and.. just worse than other skins. AND, on top of that i really need a new rifle, currently using the charrzooka for Lore reasons, which just recently started bother me. However i feel better using Celestial engineer if i go with the WvW blobs than on my elementalist for unknown reasons.
Outside of the bothers and love of the professions ill also mention that ill be roaming with a guardian or ranger friend.
Also, kitten those Crystal quartz.
Thanks for any potential help!
most ppl run condi engi in wvw. its better utilized on ele.
I already got most stat combinations except celestial on both my elementalist and engineer, and it is celestial i want to get next just cant decide on who i want it on!
thx for reply though
Celestial outside of SPvP is going out of style for ele, though some here will likely disagree. I have a full ascended Celestial/vitality infused armor set with Strength runes, and I haven’t used it for months now. Even if I updated it to Hoelbrak (which is far better than Strength for everything but PvE dps, which is better off with Scholars anyway), I still find myself going straight for my Sentinel’s armor set if I need additional defense. (Zerk trinkets/weapons almost never come off).
Frankly, Celestial just ain’t what it used to be. I will say that you could toss a light armor Celestial set around on other characters for experiments, as Mes and Necro can both make decent use of the stats as well, where Ranger and Thief.. can’t.
@Bluefox ,
you dont think its because you just got bored of it that it feels “out of style”?
And there havent been a change to celestial, allthough might stacking got a bit hit.. which elementalists surely relies on more than engineer though.
It got gutted with the crit damage nerf many months ago, which is likely the biggest reason I’m not using it much any more. Mixing and matching has simply proven to yield better results now.
but it only differs 173 power, 4% crit chance, 6% crit dmg on set with full celestial armor vs full berzerk. Meassured with Zerker accessories and weapons in both cases.
however you gain 156 more armor, 1560 more hp, 156 condi and healing in return..
So to break it down, its 173 power vs 156 armor, 1560 hp and slightly better condi and healing..
Sure almost 200 power is vital in PvE, but in PvP/WvW you get more of everything except just that power, (the crit chance and damage differ so little so im not counting em)
and i think 2140 vs 2313 power is decent since you get more of other stuff, and are flexible enough to go condi dmg too if you only switch out wep and accessories, with a similar result, which is a little less condi dmg but with more of other stuff to compensate..
Everything is calculated without runes and sigils, and random 6.6.2.0.0. traits on both elem and engi.
Switching our everything except armor seems.. to me quite good actually, the difference if you are focusing your build outside of the armor seems good minimal,
and i mean 2315 power (celestial armor with zerk accessories + wep + power runes) is still able to fill out a dps slot quite fine.. i think?
What do you think seeing the numbers in front of you?

Right, but if you’re switching out of zerk it’s only to be more defensive. So for me it’s far more beneficial to gain a substantial boost to vitality with Sentinels. You still maintain most of the power and gain a smidgen more toughness over Celestial. To me that’s worth more than the condi damage and healing power by a great deal. The differences are a bit picky I grant you, but the results are the same. My Celestial set lays dormant and my other armor sets get the attention. I don’t want to discourage you if Celestial is what you really want, I’m merely warning you you may find it collecting dust eventually when you fine tune your builds.
Edit: Even for hybrid builds mixing Sinister or Dire is still likely more worth wile than celestial. There’s simply too many good stat combos to justify celestial any more imo.

As someone who actually make both ascended sets with the ascended trinkets on both ele and engineer, the engineer deserves it more based on my experience in wvw only. I run p/s with bomb and wrench kit so my build 4/0/4/4/2 revolves around control rather than all out damage but with full cele im still able to spec 1750+ power, 650+ condi, 700+ heal without food and buffs. This works pretty well with sigil of battle and traveler runes which i cant live without in wvw so u can imagine a lot more dps if u run runes of strength or hoelbrak.
The ele on the other hand when build in typical d/d hits like a wet noodle until the might stacks starts building up but it requires a somewhat fixed might stacking pattern, in the end i just regeared it with soldiers and knights and it works much better. A staff ele or FA build would basically benefit more from stats focused gear coz of the playstyle of nuking from a distance.
