So I have been away from the game for over two years and a lot has changed. I decided to level up a D/D Ele with the hopes of roaming and playing in small group action in WvW. Back in the day you could craft the best gear pretty easily, is that still the case? Can I acquire most if not all of what I need via crafting or is some PvE required? I would like to avoid as much PvE as possible but if there is something quick and easy I don’t mind.

I have been trying to research the best gear set up and it seems like a lot of people are going full celestial on armor and mixing up the weapons and trinkets but I am very confused. There is also these Ascended items now, do I need those? Hopefully I am not asking to much but could someone spell out what armor, accessories, and weapons I should be aiming for. Is celestial hard to get? Can I make a mixture of exotic gear and convert it to celestial down the road or is that function not in the game. Last but not least I found a dagger in chest after fighting the dragon in sparkfen, her name started with a T, and the dagger was an ascended item, but I can’t remember the name. Something Sunless. Is that a decent dagger to use, or at least to start off with?

Sorry again but if someone could help out or point me in the right direction, so much has changed from two years ago and a lot of the info out there seems outddated.

I’m not an avid WvW player, but celestial for roaming is the way to go on ele. Unfortunately ascended celestial (or any celestial) is a bit more of a pain to get than any other ascended (quartz crystal timegate) Not sure how much gold you got lying around but you could use that to fast track your mats (except quartz), or just be studious and craft one timegate mat per day (and the quartz) and have enough for all 6 pieces in a month. Most people will tell you you can use amulets/weps being knights or zerk to move stats how you want them, and can do this with gear as well but celestial gives the most stats period and you can make use of every stat. You will also need laurels to buy the recipes so you’ll need to log in daily (this might actually be your biggest timegate if you have none.

I’d recommend supplementing with exotic gear to get your stats and convert it to ascended of your choice. Fractals for rings, Guild missions for trinkets, I think you buy the amulet with laurels and craft the backpiece (don’t remember) expect 1-2 months depending on your current amount of gold and dedication to get all acceded.

Above all else look on the wiki ascended section for gear and you can figure out from their how long/much its going to take to get full ascended. (I do recommend ascended only because everyone else will likely have it)

thanks, what is the quartz crystal time gate? also how do you covert exotic gear into ascended? if i craft a starter set of exotic, what type would you recommend? zerk, knights, etc. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You cant go wrong with

Armour set – celestial

Weapons – Anything from zerk to dire. Up to your playstyle

Trinkets – cele

What is a good gear combination to go with as I slowly get enough crystals for celestial gear? Knights/Zerk 50/50?

Also can you convert your exotic gear into ascended gear down the road, or do you need to craft the ascended gear from scratch?

You need some soldier in there or you will be running around with 12k hp which is like a cloak and dagger backstab or one mirror blade shatter. Everyone hits harder now so you want to shoot for 16-18k hp I prefer 17k hp since every does more damage now you should run around with a little more vitality and toughness than what you would have before.

Apothecary,cleric and soldier mix with cele trinkets can do the thing. I am using this while trying to gather quartz. Only thing you need to do is open a builder site and manage your stats according to celestial stats.
