I hear a lot of complaining about Elementalist, sure they aren’t as easy to play as other classes and I hope they keep it that way and they could use a few buffs here and there (Conjures!) but its still a very fun class to play and very viable.

I have played all classes to some extent and nothing comes as close to being fun as Ele.

As someone who never had any intention to rolling an ele (80 guard, 80, thief), this is definitely making me feel like I’ve been missing out. You make it seem so fluid. I was just browsing class forums to figure out what other class I should get to 80 while D.R. are active from farming. I’m a sucker for mobility, and I think I may have figured out my cloth class (I could care less if they are UP or OP… I play what’s fun.)

Wow. I am literally stunned. I’m not very far with my ele (level 15) but I’ve been discouraged to level it. I’m getting two or 3 shotted by enemies my level, but yes the damage I do IS very high.

I saw you multiple times in a crowd of enemies, and hardly dropping in health. I saw you as you were running from a few people, then, at half health turn around and absolutely, perfectly destroy all of them. How is this possible? How do you not die nearly instantly, while also dealing some very high damage?

I’m in awe not just as a noob elementalist, but also as a necromancer who still drops in health faster than you, while having a difficult time dealing more than 1500 damage, and that only to one enemy.

Anyone can look good when you’ve got 3 orbs and a highly populated server vs a lower pop’d one. Don’t even think those guys were geared. Show me a s/tPvP where the challenge is. Nothing special here.

Just curious, with the traits to give you boons on auras, what auras do you have at your disposal? There’s one in Air and Water that I can see

I run Power/Toughness/Vit armor/weapons with Cond/Power/Vit jewelry. Helps a lot in taking damage. I also run 10 Points in Earth to get 3 seconds of protection when i gain an aura. Runes of Earth also make a difference. Shocking Aura helps stop a lot of the burst damage people like to blow on Inc.

Pop server means nothing, I was by myself in pretty much all but the last fight. Can’t say if they were geared or not, but people are dumb if they can’t spend even 3-4 gold to get full Rares or run dungeons (like i did) and get Exotics. I had 1-3 orbs, never had 3 all the time.

1 wasn’t 80, everyone else was. Protection and Shocking Aura goes a long way to stop damage.

10 Air for Fury/Swiftness when using an aura and 10 earth for protection.

I wanted to watch it, but then I saw it was on JQ. JQ has 3 orb buffs, of course anything they do is going to look amazing.

Yeah, Air and Water both have an Aura, and if you combine Magnetic Grasp (Earth #3) with a fire field, you’ll pick up Fire Aura aswell.

The trait is generally worth it, as you can cycle both auras for nearly permanent uptime on swiftness/fury.

On topic, WvW is great to watch but it’s really not a reliable representation for how our class performs in a PvP environment.

First people complain that D/D can’t survive in a fight, then when someone makes a video showing they can, people complain he’s not taking any damage, therefore the video being invalid. Sigh, there’s just no pleasing some.

Properly built and played D/D takes remarkably little damage for a(n almost) melee build, working as intended.

Nice video and nice fights. I noticed there were a couple things that you never did, though. So, not to sound like a kitten, but I have a couple suggestions for you.

First, I don’t think there was a single time in that video where the enemy was burning when you used fire grab. I’d highly suggest changing your strategy up a bit. What I saw you doing most of the time was burning speed up almost to the enemy and then immediately popping fire grab. As a d/d player myself, I know that this won’t get them burning. That one simple condition on them gives fire grab a 60% buff to its base damage. It’s huge.

Second, and this one is less of a big deal, but when you’re running away from people, there’s a way to make use of updraft that I didn’t see you use. What you do is RTL and then, while you’re in the middle of riding that lightning, RMB turn 180 degrees. As soon as you come out of RTL, use updraft. This launches you backwards (in the direction you’re running) AND gives you swiftness. While you’re rolling backwards for updraft, RMB turn 180 again and you’re running forward when you stop rolling. Like I said, not as big, but I find it to be super useful when I’m trying to get somewhere fast.

Good job, though. We’ll get through to those Ele doubters and haters eventually.

1) Actually Burning speed applies 1 second of burning which is long enough to do Firegrab, try it out for yourself.

2) Yes the Updraft trick is something i learned while playing staff since you can use burning retreat the same way, problem is, updraft is such a great move to set up kills and most of the time im just trying to split up people then go back in for the kill so i just use my auras for swiftness since i have the trait for it.

The invalid part is where the OP has 150 higher stats and 15% more HP. If I had 3 orb buffs I’d be able to take on impossible odds too.

People will always find a reason as to why something is not possible under normal means.
D/D Eles arent are squishy as people think or as bad. Played DAoC Solo for many years and had multiple Lone Enforcers, fighting multiple people at once and walking away consistently while people make excuses is normal.
Instead of trying go find excuses you guys should be trying to find advantages for yourself.
Orbs are nothing compared to fighting the other realm with 4 relics and walking away with RPs like in DAoC.

OP, thank you for sharing the video and how to make D/D more viable. I recently got my Ele to 80 and primarily play D/D. I am not very good at it, but, I like it way better than any of the other weapons, so I continue to hit my head against the wall.

It is fairly obviously a cut in the video switching to a new scene.

He teleports again at 2:03 to avoid a zerg (all the way to the southern part of the map). ANet please ban this obvious hacker. If you look at the timestamps you can see that several hours have passed as well, indicating that he is an alien and/or a witch.

Wildclaw, yeah I see what you mean now. The area looked the same and looked like the same profession he was fighting.

Did you have all 3 orbs? Your hp is 24k….so Im assuming that is the case or you have 0 toughenss. With my ele I can beat two opponents with 80% health without using a heal or any utility skills with 3 orbs.

Go to sPvP and try it out..I’m not saying you wont do well, I do quite alright but this isn’t anything that impressive because of the orbs and the fact your opponents didn’t seem leveled/skilled. At one point you down a guy and stomp him and the other guy starts rezzing him mid fight? That’s not a level 80 player.

To the people trying to roll an ele, you should try it, it’s a great profession and if the dev address the downed state and give the Dd a little more love and I say just little, it’ll be very fun to play.

OP, if you ever want to really test your build, PM and we can set up a 1on1 pvp match….not because I think you’re no good, but because it might be a good test of our builds and I’m always looking to learn something new.

Theres more than one example of other people doing what he was doing, yes the orbs help and yes you can’t fight unscaled people 24/7 but it certainly showcases what the class CAN do. So stop the hate and watch other people do this, in fact there are people that do it better than him but they’re doing the same dance either way.

Yes WvW is no indication to the class as well I’m sure anyone will agree that Ele in WvW is more than fine. If you can provide sPvP action that’d be great.

I have 22K HP with food. I actually do tPvP plenty and when im not playing Staff i do D/D for roaming and it works very well. I do 1v1 plenty with my guildies and they wonder why someone would go S/D for roaming when they see that D/D is far superior.

Elementalist is really strange.
Its not a ranged class but instead the best way to PvP is by running a melee build with “elemental” weapons.

The actual ranged setup sucks in ST damage, have low survivability and only 1-2 good AoE spells, which of 1 is very situational to be usefull.
